Insulation of doors in the apartment. How to insulate the door yourself and what material to choose? Insulation of a balcony door

The entrance group and windows in any room are the largest heat-transfer surface. And if it is possible to solve the problem of heat loss with windows by installing double-glazed windows, then you will have to work with the entrance. Starting any repair or construction, you need to immediately decide how to insulate the front door, regardless of the material from which it is made. This applies to both metal and wood. In the article we will describe popular thermal insulation materials, a method of insulation and decoration.

Warming methods

Modern entrance metal and wooden structures are already on sale with thermal insulation. Another question is that the thickness or quality of the material is not enough to retain heat in the house (mainly Chinese models "suffer" from this). Also require preparatory work and custom-made copies, which are initially made only in the form of a canvas with a box.

In total, there are 3 main options:

  • sealing of ends;
  • use of rollers;
  • insulation for doors.

What is used for thermal insulation

The end and rebate seal is used in any case if it does not fit tightly and air movement is felt. Even an insulated door without a seal will allow cold air to pass through and heat will begin to leave through it.

Rollers can be used both as an independent element and when upholstered with decorative or insulating materials.

Thermal insulation upholstery is applied from the inside, decorative - from the outside or both. Depending on what material is used, the finishing method is chosen.

Thermal insulation:

  • foam rubber;
  • isolone;
  • mineral wool;
  • Styrofoam;
  • expanded polystyrene.

Decorative:

  • leather;
  • vinyl;
  • leatherette;
  • leatherette, etc.

It is very easy to work with foam rubber - the finished sheets are attached to the panel and fixed from above with slats. But the inexpensive material accumulates water, which creates cold bridges. In addition, mold can form under the foam.

Izolon is structurally similar to foam rubber, but does not actively absorb water and does not crumble during operation. They fix it in the same way as foam rubber.

Mineral wool is preferable for insulating the structure, but over time it will begin to clump and sag, gradually, as if flowing down. It is advisable on the inside to first fill the glazing beads in the form of small rectangular sections and insert mineral wool plates into them. This will prevent loss of volume and will not create cavities.

Polyfoam and expanded polystyrene are very light plates that hold their shape and have good warm insulating properties, but during combustion they emit extremely toxic substances.

Styrofoam and expanded polystyrene crumble strongly when cutting sheets. This can be avoided by using a hot wire. Cutting work in this way is carried out outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

How to insulate a door with a sealant

Again, this is a mandatory measure for any input element where there is a loose fit of the sash to the box. The gasket completely closes the slots through which cold air flows, increases the pressure and makes the closing process quieter. Structurally, this is a tape, one side of which is covered with a sticky layer, and the other is made in the form of a rubber or foam pad.

The rubber seal is of better quality and lasts longer due to less damage and less compression. The service life of foam rubber rarely exceeds 2-3 years and this is due precisely to the soft structure of the foam rubber, which can come off, bend in some places.

Before proceeding with gluing, you need to measure the perimeter - the width and height of the canvas and with this calculation buy the required footage of the tape. Be sure to consider before buying a tape, not only the perimeter of the box, but also the thickness of the porch and slots.

For reference. The narthex of the door is a 3-5 cm thick strip that acts as a continuation of the door leaf and extends onto the box itself.

The gluing process itself is very simple:

  • degrease the places where it will be glued;
  • starting from the bottom, carefully separate small plots paper from the sticky layer and, pressing, fix the tape.

Today, with the advent of adhesive tape, it has become very easy to isolate cold bridges, whereas earlier in the same places it was necessary to nail pieces of leatherette folded in several layers with small cloves.

For more effect, you can also glue soft tape to the edge of the box.

Sealing with special rollers

Insulating the front door with rollers allows you to perform 2 tasks at once - to close the cracks through which it comes through, and to decorate the panel. A soft seal acts as a roller, which is wrapped upholstery... Rolls are twisted in small portions and nailed on the inside with cloves.

Currently, this method is not popular, as in Soviet times but is a great way to seal front doors.

The upholstery process looks like this:

  • prepare the material - the seal is wrapped in leatherette;
  • from the inside, they nailed it with carnations strictly along the edges of the canvas;
  • at the bottom, they make the rollers protrude half a centimeter.

Work with insulation

Insulation for doors is chosen based on the budget, the material of the canvas and the estimated service life. The easiest way is to work with foam (read about this below), but it will be better to use isolon or mineral wool. After fixing, the insulation for the doors is closed with a finishing cloth - leatherette, leatherette, vinyl, etc.

To begin with, determine the required amount - measure the perimeter and add 1 cm from each edge.

It is best to insulate the front door on both sides - this way you can completely eliminate heat loss and save on heating. Finishing, respectively, is also carried out outside and inside.

Work process:

  1. Remove the canvas from the hinges and lay it horizontally.
  2. Unscrew all accessories - hinges, handles, staples, etc.
  3. Clean the surface from dust and dirt and degrease it.
  4. If the insulation for the doors is mineral wool, a mesh of thin glazing beads with an edge size of 15-20 cm is made on the inside. This is not required for foam rubber and isolon.
  5. Fasten the insulator, depending on its type, with studs, construction staples or glue.
  6. Leave to dry for several hours and nail the finishing decor. The construction stapler copes with this purpose best of all - quickly, reliably and very easily.

For additional decoration on the outside, you can mark diamonds with chalk, hammer in decorative nails at the junction, and stretch a strong fishing line between them. In this case, the insulated front door will look aesthetically more attractive.

  1. Fasten the fittings and return the structure to its place.

The process of working with foam

There are 2 equally effective ways:

  • fixing the plates from the outside or from the inside and upholstery with leatherette (leatherette, vinyl, etc.);
  • stuffing of sections with glazing beads and installation of cut pieces of polystyrene with subsequent decorative finishing.

Both methods have a right to exist, since the thermal insulation does not critically change. In both cases, the doors are insulated with their own hands, for which you will have to remove the structure from the hinges, decorate with trim and fix the foam or expanded polystyrene.

The first way

  1. From the outside, the canvas is cleaned and degreased.
  2. A layer of liquid nails is applied and sheets of polystyrene or expanded polystyrene are firmly attached.
  3. The decor is stuffed on top, making 1 cm protrusions along the edges and making them in the form of rollers.

Second way

  1. Remove from the hinges and dismantle all the accessories.
  2. On the inside, a crate is made with thin glazing beads.
  3. Cut the foam into the desired pieces.
  4. Forced to insert into the windows so that there are no empty gaps.
  5. Decorate with laminate, plastic panels, fabric materials, etc.

As you can see, there are no difficulties in making door insulation with your own hands. It is enough to have at hand necessary materials and understand exactly what to do and why.

VIDEO: How to insulate the entrance wooden door do it yourself

Winter is naturally associated with cold weather, and now also with the need to shell out large sums of money for heating, the cost of which is steadily increasing. To increase the temperature in the room and save on heating the house or apartment, property owners are trying to identify and eliminate sources of heat loss.

In most cases, thermal imaging of buildings shows that about a third of the heat from the room penetrates outside through the so-called "warm loop", namely the windows and entrance doors.

Do not think that the installation of double-glazed windows and replacement door block automatically solves the problem of heat loss. And if the replacement of windows leads to a decrease in losses, because they are closed in winter, in the case of the door, the heat still leaves the room, so you need to learn how to insulate the front door in a private house with your own hands, and apply the knowledge in practice.

Thermal insulation of entrance doors makes it possible to:

  1. reduce heat loss by getting rid of puffing and drafts;
  2. reduce the level of noise entering the apartment / house;
  3. to increase the aesthetic component - door decor.

It is much easier to insulate the door in the apartment, because, as a rule, it goes into the entrance, where the temperature is warmed up more than the temperature outside. Insulating a door in a rural house is a more difficult task, i.e. it separates the heated room from the frosty air of the street and the wind. Nevertheless, general rules and the directions of insulation for them will be the same. The difference will be in the choice of warm insulating material and its thickness.

How to insulate the front door?

In a private house and apartment, different heat-insulating materials can be used for insulation, since the construction market abounds in them. Among the most popular:

  • cardboard(paper honeycomb filler). Domestic manufacturers fill interior doors with corrugated cardboard to increase their sound insulation properties. No one is surprised by the insulation of a Chinese door with cardboard, because it is the cheapest insulation;
  • furniture foam rubber(thickness from 3 to 100 mm, price - 45-900 rubles / sq. m). This is a material for insulating doors, which was one of the first to be used for thermal insulation. Foam rubber is distinguished by its low price, flexibility, the ability to keep its shape for a long time and restore it under short-term load, good sound insulation characteristics, ease of use;
  • Styrofoam(2560-3200 rubles / cubic meter). It is he who is considered the most effective insulation for entrance doors. And door insulation with foam is the most popular solution. Polyfoam is distinguished by its low cost, excellent sound and thermal insulation characteristics, ease of installation. Remember, however, that the foam supports combustion.
  • expanded polystyrene(3500-5000 rubles / cubic meter) has similar properties, but, due to the higher density, it allows the door to be insulated more reliably. Expanded polystyrene is also distinguished by a higher price. In terms of structure, both materials belong to the category of rigid ones, and are used mainly for insulating metal doors;
  • polyurethane foam... This product is a novelty in the field of door insulation. In terms of its properties, polyurethane foam is comparable to foam plastic, but its use makes it possible to fill the entire space inside the door. The material is environmentally friendly, does not support combustion, but has a higher cost;
  • cotton wool... Door insulation mineral wool- this is a modern analogue of foam insulation. Due to the flexibility of this material, it can be used to insulate both metal and wooden doors. In this case, one should distinguish between mineral wool (Isover, price 70-75 rubles / sq. M.) And basalt wool (Rockwool, price 200-220 rubles / sq. M.). The second option is tougher and more environmentally friendly. In any case, when insulating the front door with cotton wool, the installation of a vapor barrier film is required. This is due to the fact that the hygroscopicity of cotton wool does not allow it to be used without additional protection... For the same reason, it is not recommended to insulate doors with cotton wool in a private house;
  • dermantin... This is a decorative material, its purpose is to close the insulation and give the door an aesthetic appearance. Therefore, door insulation with dermantine is carried out only together with heat-insulating material.

Ready set for door insulation

For those who do not want to waste time on the selection and calculation of the amount of materials, manufacturers offer to purchase a set for door insulation - ready-made solution for entrance doors of different sizes.

The set for insulating the front door includes:

  • dermantin. It resembles skin in appearance. Now such upholstery has lost its popularity, but it remains one of the simplest and cheapest ways to insulate and decorate a door in a cottage;
  • foam rubber;
  • sealing rubber. To avoid blowing around the perimeter door frame ki;
  • nails with decorative caps.

The cost of the "Standard" set with 5 mm foam rubber is 490-520 rubles, the "Lux" set with 10 mm foam rubber - 1180-1230 rubles. There are also kits with padding polyester, they are a little cheaper.

Thanks to this set, minor repairs and insulation of external doors can be performed without any problems.

As a rule, the price of the kit is higher than the cost of its individual components, so it is better to purchase the materials yourself.

How to insulate the front door in a private house and apartment

Let's analyze the technology of insulation of a street door on our own in the context of directions. There are two sources for heat loss:

  • the door itself, i.e. due to the high thermal conductivity of the door leaf, heat loss occurs. Metal doors let in more heat, wooden ones less;
  • door contour. A significant part of the heat is "blown out" of the room by drafts, which appear due to the loose fit of the door to the door frame.

Consider how you can insulate the front doors with your own hands in order to reduce heat loss in both directions.

Direction 1 - Insulation of the door leaf

It should be understood that the methods of door insulation will be determined by the material from which the door leaf is made:

  • occurs by filling the cavity inside the door frame. For this, you can use foam and cotton wool. Before starting work, you need to open the door, remove the cardboard filler (installed in almost all Chinese doors) and fill the void with a more suitable thermal insulation material.

When filled with foam, it is cut into pieces that are convenient for installation and glued to the inner surface of the door using liquid nails and an assembly gun. The free space is blown out with polyurethane foam. In the case of cotton wool, it is first recommended to make a crate, in the cells of which cotton wool is placed. It is impossible to lay cotton wool without a crate, because it tends to creep over time. Then the door is closed with any sheet material, for example, fiberboard and decorated. Insulation is often covered with plastic or MDF panels.

Note. The thickness of the insulation for the front door must be equal to the thickness door leaf, otherwise you will have to change the locks.

  • performed by flexible insulation. Since the insulation cannot be placed inside the door frame, you need to decide which side to insulate the door, from the outside or from the inside. The direction of opening of the door and the location of the hinges are taken into account here. The main requirement is that the seal does not interfere with their functioning.

For insulation, a heat-insulating material is laid on the door leaf, covered with a film (in the case of cotton wool), and the doors are upholstered with dermantine, which is fixed with decorative nails.

Note. The use of a reflective material, such as penofol, on the inside of the door will "return" warmth to the room. After all, the reflectivity of penofol is 97%.

Direction 2 - Insulation of the entrance door opening

Only the warming of the canvas will not reduce heat loss enough to talk about increasing energy efficiency warm contour at home.

The second direction, more productive and easier to implement, from which work on thermal insulation usually begins, is the insulation of the door frame. In this direction, there are two methods of insulation:

1. Insulation of the door frame of the entrance door

For these purposes, a sealant is used - polymer or foam rubber (less often) on an adhesive basis. It is better to give preference to polymer, because its service life is longer, and the efficiency is higher. The foam tape will not last and the season will wear out within a year at best. The process of insulation itself is simple and involves the sticker of a seal along the perimeter of the door leaf. The main thing is to first wipe and degrease the surface so that the seal sticks better.

An important aspect on which the effectiveness of insulation depends is the correct selection of the thickness of the seal. The thin seal will not perform its function in in full, and a thick one will create an additional load on the door hinges in the process of closing the doors, and will lead to their accelerated wear.

Plasticine will help in solving this problem. It must be wrapped in cellophane and placed between the door frame and the canvas. Then close and open the door. The thickness of the resulting plasticine roller will correspond to the optimal thickness of the sealant.

2. Insulation of the entrance door slopes

Errors in the installation of the door frame, the use of low-quality foam, which "sagged" during the operation of the door, saving on foam and blowing it out intermittently - all this ultimately leads to the fact that the cold comes from a seemingly insulated door.

What if it's blowing from the front door?

To eliminate drafts, it is necessary to dismantle the slopes, fill the vacated space with foam, lay insulation (preferably soft) and restore the slope again. If this kind of work is difficult to do, it is better to order a master, his services will not cost too much, and the appearance of the door will be presentable.

How to determine where it is blowing from?

You can check if the foam is leaking by if you bring the lighter to the assembly seam. If the flame fluctuates, measures must be taken to replace the foam.

Installation of a double door as a way of insulation

Installing a double door can be a separate way to insulate a house. The space between adjacent doors will become an air gap, which will help prevent cold air from the street from entering directly into the living space. In combination with the insulation of openings and slopes, this approach makes it possible to get really high-quality insulated entrance doors.

Note. Ideal option in this case, the installation of two doors on one door frame may become.

If insulation does not help much, it's time to change the old doors. Good feedback o, which prevent the penetration of cold, leveling the temperature differences between the room and the street.

Insulation of a balcony door

If the house or apartment has a balcony, then this is another door that faces the street (especially if the loggia or balcony is not glazed) and, accordingly, needs thermal insulation.

How to insulate a balcony door for the winter

Warming balcony door has its own specifics, which is associated with the presence of a window in it. If the door is made of wood, then the insulation is carried out by gluing a seal around the perimeter of the canvas, insulating the slopes and sealing the glass seat. The insulation technology will be similar (we recommend that you familiarize yourself) with the insulation of wooden windows.

If you need insulation plastic door, then in this case it is recommended to first check the tightness of the door and correct the fit by adjusting the fittings. Insulation technology is also similar to thermal insulation plastic windows... In the event that there are no violations in the work of the fittings, the masters recommend using the technology of Swedish insulation. This is the most reliable way to reduce heat loss through the balcony block.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are several directions for insulating a door in a private house. But only their complex use will allow you to get a really tangible effect.

Since heating tariffs are growing from year to year, the problem of insulating house structures is very urgent. It is necessary to insulate windows, external walls and, of course, the front door. After all, it is through it that up to 30% of the total heat loss goes away. Consider how to insulate the door so that the work done will add warmth and comfort to the apartment.

Insulating entrance doors is a responsible job. The retention of heat in the apartment, and the aesthetic perception of the hallway, which, as you know, is the "calling card" of any home, depends on the quality of its implementation.

Therefore, it is important not only to fix the insulation material on the canvas, but also to carry out finishing work so that the door looks attractive and harmonizes with the general interior of the entrance area.

Insulation requirements

In order for the front door to reliably protect living quarters from the cold, it must be insulated. For this, special heat-insulating materials are used. But which one is better?

Primary requirements

What should be the ideal material for insulation? Required qualities of insulation:

  • good thermal insulation qualities;
  • resistance to both low and high temperatures;
  • the ability not to let air in from the street inside the premises.

Advice! In the event that it is planned to carry out the insulation work independently, then an important quality will be the easy processing of the material and its low weight. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to work with the material.

Insulation of metal door leaves

For independent insulation of metal door panels, polystyrene foam and mineral wool are most often used. Positive qualities of expanded polystyrene:

  • good heat insulating ability;
  • good sound insulation performance;
  • long service life, resistance to biological and chemical influences;
  • resistance to moisture;
  • easy handling and low weight.

The advantages of using mineral wool include:

  • excellent performance of heat and sound insulation;
  • the ability to compress;
  • safety from the point of view of ecology;
  • ease of processing.

Insulation materials for wooden door leaves

It is convenient to use foam rubber or isolon to insulate the leaf of a wooden door. Both of these materials are different:

  • good performance of thermal insulation;
  • elasticity and flexibility;
  • resistance to biological and chemical influences;
  • ease of processing.

Foam rubber is a more voluminous material, it should be used if you plan to create a three-dimensional pattern during finishing. Besides, foam rubber is cheaper. But isolon has a longer service life and is non-flammable.

Warming of the canvas

To execute high-quality insulation, it is necessary to sheathe the door leaf with insulating material. Most often, the door is insulated from the inside. To insulate the canvas, you need:

  • remove the canvas from the hinges;
  • lay it horizontally, it is better not on the floor, but on a workbench, table or two stools, so it will be more convenient to work;
  • dismantle all overhead structures on the door (handles, peephole, lock covers, etc.).

Insulation of a wooden door

Foam rubber or izolon is used to insulate a wooden canvas. Working with these materials is simple, you need to cut out a plate of insulation material to the size of the door and stick it on the surface of the canvas. Then you will need to make technological holes in the material at the locations of the lock and the peephole.

Next, finishing is carried out. When using foam rubber or izolon, as a rule, the canvas is covered with leatherette or other dense material.

Advice! When choosing a finishing material for trimming doors from the inside, it is recommended to choose a material so that it matches the finish of the hallway.

The facing material is fixed to the surface of the canvas using furniture nails with decorative caps.

Insulation of a metal door

The method of insulating a metal door should be selected depending on the model. There are doors on sale with a removable inner sheet and non-collapsible doors. If the inner wall of the web is removed, then it must be dismantled.

Then the inside of the metal sheet is filled with insulation (foam or mineral wool). If it is not possible to lay the material tightly, the formed gaps will need to be filled with foam. After the foam has dried, the door is reassembled by setting the inner sheet in place.

If the model is non-collapsible, then to install the insulation, you will have to first assemble the frame. You can mount this structure from wooden slats or a metal profile, fix the elements with self-tapping screws to the stiffening ribs of the door.

Insulation is laid inside the cavity formed by the frame, and then a sheet of facing material is attached. It can be a sheet of moisture-resistant plywood or laminated chipboard.

Eliminating gaps

When installing the canvas in the box, technological gaps must be left, otherwise, the door will be impossible to use. However, these cracks are the place where cold air enters the house. To eliminate this disadvantage, it is necessary to install elastic seals around the perimeter of the box.

These seals are readily available at a hardware store. They look like cords rolled into rolls. The seals are self-adhesive, so they can be installed quickly and easily.

It can also blow in the gaps that remain between the frame and the walls of the doorway. During installation, these gaps are filled with foam, but sometimes installers do not do this often enough. If the foam is not covered with a layer of putty on top, then the material will eventually collapse and blow from the door. To eliminate the draft it is necessary:

So, the insulation of doors at the entrance to an apartment is an important stage in the complex thermal insulation of a house. Correctly performed work will exclude the penetration of cold air into the apartment when closed door, and this will allow you to spend less energy on heating and add comfort to living quarters. It is quite possible to carry out the insulation work on your own, using modern insulation materials.

Having covered the doors with insulation, it turns out to create a comfortable microclimate in the house, despite the cold outside its walls. Therefore, it is so important to engage in insulation of the door structure, finding out the reasons for its freezing and understanding which material is better and how to use it correctly.

Reasons for cooling the room due to the door

The guilt of the front door in the drop in temperature in the house is confirmed by the formation of condensation (and a little later - white bloom) on the surface from the side of the room.

Condensation on an uninsulated door is formed due to the combination of cold air with warm

Frost on the door as a result of heat loss by the house appears for the following reasons:

  • loose fit of the door leaf to the box, contributing to the draft;
  • cracking of the door leaf due to long-term use;
  • poor sealing polyurethane foam the gap between the door frame and the opening in the wall;
  • poor quality heat and sound insulation of the door made by the manufacturer;
  • infiltration of cold air through a keyhole not covered by a metal "curtain".

Cracks on the door are one of the main causes of heat loss.

To cool the room through interior door give other problems:

  • cool corridor;
  • different microclimate in the rooms as a result of the fact that one inhabitant of the house is cold, and the other is hot, which is why he constantly opens the window.

Materials for door insulation

So that the door insulation is not useless, you need to find a suitable material.

Foam rubber

The second name of the foam rubber is foamed polyethylene foam. Due to the property of reflecting heat, the foil on the foam rubber retains up to 70% of the heated air. The rest of the heat is saved by the polyethylene foam itself.

Foil foam reflects heat, therefore it is actively used to insulate doors

The advantages of foam rubber include easy installation of the material - simple gluing to the surface - and a reasonable price. And he has many shortcomings:

  • the need to hide foam rubber behind upholstery, that is, behind leatherette or leather;
  • short service life, in comparison with other materials;
  • flammability and toxicity (if ignited);
  • problematic transportation, because in the compressed state the foam rubber deteriorates.

Foam rubber is considered a good option for insulating doors, both made of metal and wood.

Izolon is a polyurethane derivative. The material belongs to synthetics and is very popular, as it performs its task perfectly, even if it is laid in a thin layer.

Even a thin isolon does an excellent job of preserving heat indoors.

The following advantages made Izolon an attractive insulation:

  • excellent thermal insulation;
  • immunity to dampness;
  • protection against condensation;
  • the ability to perform their task without a waterproofing film;
  • cleanliness (from an environmental point of view);
  • the ability to drown out noise;
  • compatibility with any material, not excluding plaster and plastic;
  • resistance to mechanical influences;
  • ensuring perfect sealing;
  • airiness of the material;
  • significant service life due to resistance to aggressive environmental influences;
  • a large selection of materials in thickness and color;
  • ease of installation;
  • long service life.

The disadvantages of the isolon simply cannot be found. The material is most suitable for insulating an entrance door made of wood.

Polyurethane foam is included in the group of synthetic building products and is often referred to as "polyurethane foam". The material is applied to the surface in bulk.

Polyurethane foam is applied to the surface and turns into a solid mass

The good reputation of polyurethane foam is provided by such characteristics as:

  • minimum volume and consumption of material, which is due to the creation of a heat-insulating layer in an unconventional way;
  • airiness of the material, thanks to which the door does not become heavy;
  • excellent insulation in combination with the strengthening of the trimmed item;
  • good tolerance to both low and high temperatures;
  • tight contact with the structure, which means that filling even hard-to-reach places doors;
  • low flammability.

Polyurethane foam ideally seals gaps, therefore it is most often used to seal gaps between a door and a door frame

A negative opinion about polyurethane foam is associated with the following properties:

  • fear of ultraviolet rays, which can cause rapid deterioration of the material;
  • high risk of smoldering when exposed to high temperatures.

Polyurethane foam as insulation is a real godsend for entrance doors made of any material. Bulk synthetic product seals those places that are completely inaccessible to all other thermal insulation materials.

The raw material for the production of expanded polystyrene is the finished polymer - polystyrene, foamed when exposed to high temperatures.

The advantages of expanded polystyrene boards include:

  • ease;
  • good tensile and compressive strength;
  • the convenience of use;
  • resistance to dampness;
  • low price compared to polyurethane foam.

Styrofoam costs less than polyurethane foam

The disadvantages of expanded polystyrene as insulation are:

  • weak blocking of noise;
  • poor steam conductivity;
  • intolerance to temperature above 80 ° C;
  • susceptibility to many organic solvents;
  • fear of fire, although the material is capable of extinguishing on its own.

Experts advise using expanded polystyrene for insulating steel doors.

Excipients

The category of fillers for door insulation includes silicone and mineral materials. Silicone fillers retain heat well, showing resistance to negative environmental influences, but do not cope with blocking noise.

Silicone filler is good as insulation, but bad as a sound insulator

Mineral fillers are famous for their functionality and harmlessness and do not show significant drawbacks.

Mineral filler does not emit harmful substances and perfectly protects against cold

Mineral wool is a heater made of inorganic fibers. The advantages of mineral wool are:

  • reliable protection from cold;
  • painless contact with alkalis and acids;
  • the ability to pass air, which contributes to the creation of a comfortable microclimate;
  • guaranteed blocking of extraneous sounds;
  • poor flammability;
  • durability (lasts about 50 years);
  • harmlessness of the material;
  • the ability to maintain its shape.

Mineral wool has no negative impact on health and flawlessly fulfills its task for many years

When looking at mineral wool from the negative side, they indicate the following:

  • when wet, the material becomes almost useless;
  • cotton wool fibers crumble strongly, so you need to work with the material in overalls and glasses.

Mineral wool can be used to insulate doors exclusively from wood.

With an iron door, mineral wool will not make good contact. The normal functioning of this insulation will be hindered by moisture, which forms an excess amount on the metal structure in winter.

Preparing the door panel

In order for the wooden door to be ready for insulation, the following must be done with it:

With the preparation of a metal door, the situation is somewhat different: the structure is dismantled, opened and laid horizontally, after which it is cleaned of old paint, degreased with alcohol and treated with a new layer of paint and varnish material.

Before insulation, the top sheet is removed from the metal door in order to gain access to the frame

Required tools

Starting to insulate the door leaf, they arm themselves with tools such as:

  • electric drill with drills for metal or wood (depending on the material of the door);
  • screwdriver;
  • screwdriver;
  • a hacksaw with small teeth;
  • sharp scissors;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • a piece of sandpaper;
  • awl;
  • putty knife;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • construction knife;
  • metal ruler;
  • construction glue (water-based acrylic nails);
  • small nails or furniture staples;
  • hammer;
  • nails with decorative heads.

Installing the seal

Silicone or rubber gaskets, the most popular draft protection materials, can be installed in two ways.

The first method involves installing the seal in the groove. For this, the material, which has a bulge with a brush on the seamy side, is compressed and pressed directly into the recess itself. At the corners of the door frame, the seal is cut only after it is installed in the groove.

The seal can be pressed into the grooves of the door structure

The second method of installing the seal assumes that the material itself is glued to the right place. For this purpose, it is gradually freed from the protective film and pressed with force along the perimeter of the door frame, avoiding accidental stretching of the product. At the bottom, the seal is carefully cut with a knife.

Self-adhesive seal is glued into the grooves of the door structure in the same way as scotch tape

Door insulation technology

Actions to protect the door from cold are determined by the material from which it is made.

Insulation of a door made of wood

The wooden door leaf is insulated step by step:

  1. Strips 10 cm wide or more and length equal to the height of the door structure are cut from the cladding material.
  2. Pieces of material face side down with small nails attached to the edge of the canvas along its entire perimeter, given that when bent inward, they will have to extend slightly beyond the door.

    rollers are made of sheathing material, which are attached along the perimeter of the canvas

  3. Foam rubber or cotton wool is wrapped in strips, forming rollers, which will serve as an additional barrier against the cold, which always strives to get into the house through the gap between the door and the box.
  4. In the corners of the structure, pieces of sheathing material are carefully tucked in or cut off, removing the excess, and then joined to each other.
  5. Insulation plates are spread on the door leaf. Fastening is carried out with small nails. The fixed heat insulator is covered with sheathing material. It is attached to the wood from the upper edge of the door.

    Insulation is attached to nails or glue

  6. Nails with decorative caps are stuck in the entire area of the structure or exclusively in its center. The elements of decoration of the door leaf are arranged evenly or in such a way as to create a certain pattern.

    An interesting pattern can be created from nails with decorative caps on the door trimmed with leatherette.

Insulation of a metal door

Metal door structure"Dress" in a heater as follows:

  1. Along the inner perimeter of the door leaf and edges reinforcing the metal product, bars are attached to the self-tapping screws - they create a frame for mounting a heat insulator. The cells are made both transverse and longitudinal, since this approach to business will insure against subsidence of the soft insulation after several years of service.

    The bars are laid both horizontally and vertically.

  2. Having measured the cells, the plates of thermal insulation material are cut with a knife into pieces of the desired format. The segments are in turn equipped with liquid nails from the seamy side, laid in the cells of the frame and pressed against the surface with force. At the same time, make sure that when filling each section, there is no free space... The detected voids are sealed with polyurethane foam. If the composition has gone beyond the framework of the frame, then after hardening it is cut, focusing on the thickness of the heat insulator.

    Pieces of insulation are laid in the frame sections, fixing with glue

  3. A sheet is cut from plywood or other material for facing, the dimensions of which repeat the parameters of the outer frame of the door. In the workpiece decorative coating cut out with a jigsaw create a hole for a lock, a handle and other elements. A sheet of plywood must be covered with a piece of leatherette, cut so that it can be folded 1 cm along the edges of the door. back side decorative canvas. The front area of leatherette-covered plywood is decorated with decorative nails.
  4. After decorating, the plywood sheet is fixed on the wooden inner frame with self-tapping screws with large heads. Fasteners are inserted every 30 cm along the perimeter of the door leaf, moving from bottom to top. In order to strengthen the fastening, the edges of the facing sheet are greased with glue.

    A sheet of plywood is attached to the self-tapping screws under the decorative canvas, which levels the surface of the door

  5. The metal door is assembled, not forgetting the lining and the handle, and put in the door frame, hoisting it on the hinges.

Features of external door insulation

If the insulation of the door from the inside seems insufficient, then the heat insulator is also attached outside the entrance structure.

Insulation on the door from the street side will not only enhance the effect of protecting the house from heat loss through the entrance structure, but also give the door leaf a presentable look.

Insulation on the outside provides the door with a chic look, and not only protects the room from the cold

To "dress" a metal door from the outside, you will need foam rubber, polyurethane foam or izolon. Both these materials and mineral wool are suitable for a wooden door. In addition to the heat insulator, you will need to find a piece of leatherette, which is slightly larger than the door in terms of parameters, and 4 strips of dense material to create seal rollers around the perimeter of the entrance structure.

The operation to insulate the door from the outside is carried out in stages:

  1. The canvas is freed from the handle and other functional elements.
  2. Pieces of the seal wrapped in leatherette are attached to the glue around the perimeter of the door leaf.
  3. Insulation sheets are fixed on the surface of the door, point-treated with glue.
  4. Heat insulator plates are covered with leatherette. The edges of the material are wrapped around the canvas and glued over the rollers.
  5. The door fittings are returned to their place.

Video: how to insulate the front door from the outside

An insulated door is a guarantee of comfort in the house. A correctly selected and installed heat insulator of the entrance structure will prevent the room from cooling due to frost on the street and protect households from colds.

The entrance to a house or apartment is not only a reliable door, but also an opening, which is formed due to the thickness outer wall... Modern door blocks are distinguished by good heat and sound insulation properties, therefore, when installing them, it remains to finish and insulate the door slopes from the inside.

The aesthetic appearance and high-quality insulation of the entrance to the house completes the overall interior of the room and serves as an obstacle to the penetration of cold air.

The outer finishing of the doorway is usually performed in a complex installation works on the installation of the front door. The gap between the wall and the door frame is blown out with foam and covered with platbands, which are included in the installation kit. Inside the room, sealing of seams, finishing and insulation of slopes can be done independently.

According to the method of work, there are three options for finishing and insulation:

  • Application of cement mortar or putty mixture directly to the walls;
  • Bonding finishing elements with glue or mortar;
  • Frame fastening of finishing elements.

The material for insulation is selected depending on the type of door leaf and wall covering inside the room. The more finishing layers, the better insulation doorway. Apply as the top layer: paint, wallpaper, decorative plaster, plastic, wood, laminate, MDF, PVC sandwich panels.

If the width of the trap allows, then a layer of isolon or mineral wool is laid between the finishing layer and the wall surface. Otherwise, it is enough to seal the assembly seams and level the surface of the slopes. cement mortar.

Surface preparation for finishing work

First of all, it is necessary to inspect the assembly seams for tightness. For this, the open flame of a candle is carried along the perimeter of the door. Places where the flame deviates towards the room should be sealed especially carefully.

Before finishing work, the door is covered with a protective film. The polyurethane foam that protrudes beyond the edge of the door frame is carefully cut off with a clerical knife.

The inner surface of the opening is cleaned of construction dust and impregnated with a primer. Then a cement slurry is prepared from one part of cement grade M400 and four parts of sand; water must be added with constant stirring until a homogeneous plastic mass is formed.

On the slopes, using a level, beacons are installed from metal profiles, which are fixed with plaster or alabaster. The edge of the opening is reinforced with a painting corner. After the composition under the beacons hardens, cement mortar is applied to the assembly seams and the wall surface. It is leveled with a wide spatula, the edges of which slide over the beacons.

The next day, the slopes are sequentially covered with the main and finishing layer of putty. The prepared surface can be painted with paint, covered with wallpaper or other materials (laminate, PVC sandwich panels, MDF).

Insulation of the entrance to the apartment with plasterboard

Gypsum - natural, safe, comfortable construction material... Warming the door slopes from the inside with plasterboard allows you to reduce the time of installation work and achieve absolutely flat surface... It is first necessary to seal the assembly joints with cement mortar. It is not necessary to completely level the surface.

For execution finishing works necessary:

  • Take measurements from surfaces and build paper patterns;
  • Cut drywall and adjust the dimensions at the attachment point;
  • Clean the surface of the walls and apply a primer;
  • Using a level, fix the panels with glue or polyurethane foam;
  • Strengthen the edges of the drywall with painting corners;
  • Putty joints and corners;
  • Apply a finishing layer of putty.

Fastening of plasterboard parts starts from the top of the opening, and the inner and outer edges of the panel can be fixed with a decorative corner made of plastic or fiberboard.

Frame finishing of the entrance opening from the inside

To securely fix the elements of the finishing material in the opening of the entrance door, use a frame made of metal profiles or wooden planks. The assembly seams are closed as described earlier. The slopes are primed and leveled with cement mortar, since the frame structure must fit snugly to the surface.

The main profiles are fixed along the inner and outer perimeter of the opening. For the stability of the entire structure, jumpers are installed between them. Such jumpers in the upper corners of the frame facilitate the installation of the finishing material.

The frame method of fastening allows you to use almost any finishing material for insulation of door slopes from inside the room. If the frame is made of wooden planks, the installation of the laminate, parquet boards, MDF boards, wood or plasterboard panels can be produced with self-tapping screws.

When the laminate is laid transversely, the fastening starts from the bottom panel, which is fixed on both sides on the frame structure.

All subsequent elements are installed using lock joints. Top panel also fixed with self-tapping screws to the frame.
The edges of the frame structure are covered decorative corners according to the selected finishing material.

Plastic cladding of the entrance from the inside of the room

Plastic is not particularly durable, but its cost is an undeniable advantage over other materials. In addition, if you fix the plastic siding lamellas horizontally, this will strengthen the structure of the cladding of the slopes.

Sealing of assembly seams is carried out as usual. The surfaces of the opening are cleaned and primed. Then produce required measurements and cut the siding slats according to the patterns. The upper and lower lamellas are cut at an angle in accordance with the bevels of the walls.

Guide elements (J-profile) are installed on the upper and side sections of the inner door opening. An angular profile or platband is fixed along the outer perimeter. Plastic lamellas are laid horizontally between the guide profiles.

If the width of the opening allows, before attaching the plastic siding, a crate is made and insulation is laid between the slats.

With the frame finishing method, you can not only insulate the slopes, but also lay hidden electrical wiring and telecommunications, arrange built-in lighting that turns on when the door is opened.

Watch the video:

After the completion of the installation work, the protective coating is removed from the surface of the door, the power supply is connected to the sockets and lighting points. The entrance opening is ready for use.

One of weak points in the housing insulation system, the house can be called windows and front doors. Correct door insulation can reduce heat loss by 25-30%.

High quality front door insulators, their selection is the key to success in the fight for energy conservation.

Heat the door leaf to the block.

The main method of heat loss is a poor connection of the door leaf with the closing latch. In the cracks created, which neither the owner of the apartment can see, cold masses of outside air enter the rooms.

In general, this disease is characteristic of woody products, as a result of the lack of reliable seals. Since the tree can change its geometric dimensions (shrinkage, swelling), it is simply necessary to use materials that provide a reliable seal for the neck door, depending on the indoor conditions. The cheapest is foam, I must say that this material cannot be called the optimal choice.

The foam itself is short, very sensitive to moisture, and should not be used on intensively controlled doors. Although it can be used, for example, on a balcony door, provided that it rarely opens in winter. More modern material profiles of rubber seals based on self-adhesive materials.

It is more robust and reliable, suitable for front doors. When installing, consider the thickness of the seal, if too thick is used, there may be problems with the door closing.

Heating of wooden doors.

Almost the only way to insulate wooden doors is to cover them. In this case, cotton wool, foam, and an insole are usually used as insulation.

Heating of metal doors.

Insulation of metal doors is also different. I would like to say the following: the best way- buy custom-made metal doors, and you can determine all the nuances of door insulation.

How to insulate an iron door with your own hands - step-by-step training in thermal insulation

Standard metal doors are usually supplied without internal insulation... As internal insulation materials, foam plastic, extruded or non-extruded, mineral heaters are usually used.

Existing heater selection can effectively address excessive heat loss and the key to success will be implementing manufacturer recommendations for installation.

20.3.2013 at 15:03

These problems can be cured if you properly insulate your front door. For isolation are used various materials, most often foams made of plastic and fibreboard:

  • fibrous materials are stone and mineral wool, which are in the form of solid plates or a cylinder heater. They have good thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, they do not sustain combustion, they are easy to fix.

    In this case, cotton wool has a significant disadvantage - when it is wet, volume is lost, and after that the insulating properties are significantly reduced.

    Therefore, the use of this material will be recommended in apartment buildings with heated access doors;

  • polystyrene is a polymer material in which bubbles are filled with air.

    Polystyrene has the same structure, but it is filled with nitrogen, but not air, so it is less prone to burning and degradation.

    Both products are available in different thicknesses, allowing you to choose the one that suits you. Styrofoam and polystyrene are moisture resistant and suitable for use in all rooms.

How to insulate a metal door from the inside

Create warm house, comfort and get rid of the cold, you will help warm the door from the inside.

You must first remove the door from the hinges. This work will be easier and easier if the door is in a horizontal position.

The metal plates are usually fastened with screws. Unscrew them and examine the space inside. When measuring with pencil and tape, remove and write down the measurements. It is necessary to prepare the heating of the material. Inside you will see pipe profiles that divide the space into cells. This design provides a solid front door. The depth of the insulation material is smooth. Access to doors and locks must remain free. To attach the heater, it is best to use liquid nails to ensure it is insurmountable, and the cracks between the pieces of material are covered with polyurethane foam.

Then we'll finish.

How to insulate a wooden front door? Self-isolation modes

Expensive doors are often not covered with a single sheet of chipboard or fiberboard. It is advisable to replace the questionable material with a new sheet that you previously attached to the required dimensions.

The fiber is fixed with ordinary screws.

Continue with the final build phase. The sheet metal returns to its place and secures it with screws. Then carefully check the door you received.

Any open cracks must be filled with sealing material.

Note. If you decide to insulate metal metal doors, remember that this will not work.

It is necessary to cut off one front part of the blade and replace it with a chipboard plate.

How to insulate an iron gate from the outside

In the cold season, so that there is no condensation, and the front door does not freeze, it is necessary to make insulation from the street.

Insulation of external doors may be required in a private house and apartment.

This method requires a lot of effort and time, since there are no cavities in this part for laying the insulation.

First you need to make a custom door frame.

Remove the door from the hinges and measure its pages. The frame is suitable for simple wooden planks. Desirably, the material is 20 mm thick and 30 mm wide.

The wooden frame will move around the perimeter of the door. The strength of the structure is increased by the cross rails. Repair it with screws. Thus, create an inner cavity. We filled it with thermal insulation material and attached it to liquid nails. All distances between pieces of insulation will explode the foam. We are waiting for it to dry completely.

Continue from the end that will hide the insulating material. To do this, remove the sheet from the fiberboard or MDF mounted to the dimensions of the door and carefully repair it.

Heat the door frame.

The iron door is made of a corner attached to the wall with metal pins.

There are often gaps between the wall and the box, which are foamed when provided with a build-up foam. This has the main disadvantage - when exposed to light, the foam installation quickly loses its protective properties and falls. You can figure it out in brown or yellow... If this happens to your box, you must remove the old foam and re-insulate the insulation.

For this:

  • a wall that fits the neck, cleans the old insulation, exposes the plaster on a hard layer, removes dust residues;
  • the surface is scattered with water, after which the slots and holes with a depth of more than 2 cm are filled with foam for assembly;
  • Wait for the foam to dry completely.

    Excessive cutout with a sharp knife;

  • neck plaster trim. A properly insulated door frame keeps cold air out.

The iron door, thermally insulated by all the rules, completely retains warm air in the house and provides reliable protection against noise.

Frost approximation is more and more important. And the door is one of the first among the common cold areas.

Through cracks in the canvas itself or a gap with a box in a house (regardless of private or apartment), a draft, smells and noise penetrate from the outside.

Such sealing and thermal insulation outer door affects not only the room temperature, but also the overall atmosphere and comfort.

Replacing door blocks for newer and warmer ones is not for everyone. And in this article we will look at ways to insulate existing wooden doors with our own hands, the video is attached.

Heating methods

When deciding how and how to insulate wooden doors, for example, in a private house, there are several main directions.

All of them are directly related to the design and possible sources of the project:

  • For general improvement of the thermal insulation properties or the presence of cracks in the canvas - insulation of the linen.
  • If there are gaps between the door frame and the board, secure the joint.
  • Damage to the neck box (frame) - heating.

Heating a wooden door frame

It might be worth starting by insulating the box itself.

Because no attempt to insulate wooden doors will be effective if there are large spaces between the wall and the frame.

Check for cracks in the frame and between the wall and the wall, if possible, eliminate the cause and close.

How to insulate wooden doors with your own hands using sealing joints (video)

Connection methods:

  • Use of a sealant.
  • Using cylinders to close the gap between the fabric and the box.

These methods of heating wood doors are simple and easy on your own.

Install the seal on the door frame

The seals have different fastening: self-adhesive or self-adhesive, with or without a clip.

Profile: single, double, triple. Material: plastic, rubber, foam rubber, etc.

The easiest way to seal doors with gasket material is with a self-adhesive rubber profile. It is glued along the edge of the frame, which increases the airtightness of the underlay. It is simply attached, but in the end its adhesion density is significantly weakened.

On a low budget, and if you have dermantine cuttings, you can warm up your front wood door more stained with dermatological tape.

It is attached to a box with small upholstery nails. This is not the most efficient method, but it can also help you reduce the number of drafts.

The width of the sealant is selected from the cell size.

The thickness is taken from the gap between them. The required length is calculated by measuring the circumference of the box.
Further measures depend on the selected seal.

When determining the thickness, you can use regular clay. It is wrapped in cellophane, placed between the box and the fabric, and closes the door. The resulting cylinder will be the required thickness.

In this video you will find an example of sealable insulation:

Sealing by cylinders

Among the methods of thermal insulation of wooden doors with your own hands, thermal insulation with rollers is one of the most common methods.

Just 15-20 years ago, every second entrance to the apartment was arranged in this way.

It's simple, inexpensive, and convenient if there is no other way to isolate it.
At the edge of the door frame, a suitable heat insulator has appeared in the cylinder inside the gasket material.

This is an example of a roller seal:

Do-it-yourself thermal insulation of a wooden door leaf (video)

Wood is a substance that retains heat well.

Therefore, in the presence of small gaps (for example, on a balcony door), it is enough to paint the surface in time to reduce precipitation.

But for complete thermal insulation, it is better to insulate the doors with upholstery.

The front door is an expensive but constant welcome.

It is often used in parallel with all the others.

For upholstery, you need:

Upholstery material.

According to your quality, use specialty fabric, vinyl, natural leather or dermantine.

Heater. They can be foam rubber, synthetics, various mineral wool, foam, insole, foam, polyurethane foam, etc.

Some materials require a vapor barrier.

The amortization process itself does not depend on the type of materials used, with the only exception in the form of expanded polystyrene.

An example of upholstery that you will find in the video:

Installation of double doors

This is another way to insulate your front door.
Yes, he needs expenses and "eats" a room in the hallway.

But the effectiveness of this method is one of the best.

The air between the two sheets will additionally be contained from the heat output.

In addition to other doors, you can use all of the same additional insulation methods.
It is not difficult to install additional door blocks. When you don’t need to improve the security of your apartment, the right inner door with a threshold is suitable. Its installation is standard, the only thing that is needed is to immediately close the connection between the frame and the fabric.

Hope this article helps you.

And all doors - entrance and balcony, wooden and metal, new or self-insulated, will keep the warmth of your home.
Remember to create the best indoor climate that requires a systematic approach. Along with the door, you may need to handle windows or walls. And if it is private house then a roof with a floor.

Even with thermal insulation, one piece of individual reception is not enough.

Another example of using several methods of heating an entrance wooden door with your own hands is in this video:

Another option is to install double doors.

Rubber seals will last longer when pressure plates are installed.

Now almost all apartments have a metal front door, thanks to which you can not think about the safety of your home. But, unfortunately, this design has one significant drawback - it strongly transmits cold and sounds from the outside.

In order to enjoy peace and quiet in your apartment, as well as to avoid heat loss in winter time, you can insulate the door with your own hands.

What is insulation and what is it for?

Iron is a good conductor, even if the door is tightly and hermetically closed, cold air from the street immediately ends up in your apartment.

Therefore, the main tasks when performing insulation work are:

  • strengthening the sealing of the door frame and the door itself;
  • high-quality insulation of metal fittings and parts;
  • placement of insulating material inside the door leaf.

In addition to the listed tasks, insulation work is also carried out to increase the service life of the door and to protect against mechanical damage.

Let's figure out how to insulate an iron front door.

Types of heaters.

What is better to insulate?

The most popular materials for insulation are: cardboard, foam, glass wool, polyurethane foam and foam.

When insulating the entrance door with corrugated cardboard, the thermal insulation does not have high level, but at the same time there is no weighting of the door itself, due to the small mass of material.

Polyfoam is an easy-to-use, durable and environmentally friendly material that has high thermal insulation and anti-noise properties.

When buying a material, you need to pay attention, first of all, to its weight and structure and give preference to foam sheets with a dense structure.

This material is by far the most effective heat insulator.

Polyurethane foam has similar properties and quality characteristics, but with a higher price.

You can insulate the door with your own hands using glass wool (a type of mineral wool).

The material is made from sand, glass, lime, borax, dolomite and soda. Has high heat and sound insulation properties, good resistance to elevated temperatures, which allows us to classify glass wool as a universal heater.

However, glass wool is rarely used as insulation for steel doors, due to its low density, increased fragility and fragility of the fibers. Over time, glass wool absorbs moisture and damp, which leads to the appearance bad smell and drips.

Also, a significant drawback is the sediment of the material, which leads to the formation of voids in some parts of the door.

Polyurethane foam has a very low thermal conductivity, does not absorb moisture and is very light in weight. It has a low degree of fire resistance, therefore it is not recommended to use it for door insulation.

Foam rubber as insulation, the worst option. They can only insulate wooden structures.

Therefore, if you are deciding how to insulate the front door, it is better to choose foam plastic, which has good heat and sound insulation properties, as a material.

Door frame insulation rules

Insulation work will not be completed until the door is completely isolated from noise and cold.

When the walls are skewed, due to the destruction of the door frame over time, its deformation between the wall and the frame, a gap appears, due to which significant heat loss occurs in the room. Therefore, during installation, the box profile must be filled with a special solution.

If this has not been done, you need to drill holes in the box and blow out the cavity with polyurethane foam or use a granular sealant.

How to insulate an iron door from the inside and outside

In solving this issue, much depends on the type of canvas, collapsible or not.

If the door leaf can be disassembled, the material is placed inside.

In this case, the seal can be:

  • rigid - polystyrene, polystyrene.

    It is selected based on the thickness of the door leaf, and fits into the middle of the door in a spacer, due to which it is kept inside;

  • soft - glass wool, while it is necessary to waterproof the material by closing it with a film. Otherwise, it will absorb condensation and eventually corrode the material.

Before performing work, locks and handles are removed, the box is disassembled.

Insulation material is laid inside, the structure is assembled and installed in its original place.

How to insulate an iron front door in the case of a non-separable structure?

Only with an additional overlay inside the canvas. The door is removed from the hinges, all fittings are removed. A bar is screwed along the inner perimeter (the optimal diameter is 10x10mm), the upholstery is stretched and fixed with special nails on the slats.

You can fill the cavity of the door block with a free-flowing heat-insulating compound.

However, this operation is possible only if there are no crossbar control mechanisms inside the leaf that close the door at the top and bottom. In such a situation, insulation is carried out only outside (provided that the surface is flat). For this, a rolled elastic insulation material is attached to the canvas. This type of insulation work does not look very aesthetically pleasing, therefore, a wooden or plastic coating is made on top.

How to insulate a Chinese door?

In practice, this question arises constantly with the onset of cold weather.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to insulate the iron Chinese door on your own, you cannot disassemble and assemble it, because this is not foreseen in the production process.

If you nevertheless were able to disassemble such a structure, then you will no longer be able to assemble it, it practically falls apart. Therefore, such popular methods of insulation as disassembly, filling with insulation, assembly, in this case, will not work.

It is also not possible to insulate it from the inside by filling the voids with polyurethane foam, because the product is deformed, the locking rods or the lock can also jam.

Such a door is steel, but not strong. Attempts to veneer the outer surface will also not lead to anything good, even a small additional load will deform the products. Therefore, it is rather difficult to figure out how to insulate a door in a private house if it is made in China.

Cladding rules

This type of work is carried out to improve appearance, strengthening heat and sound insulation.

The most popular, albeit expensive, type of cladding is MDF metal panels.

The material is harmless to health, resistant to fungus. After making such an overlay, it must be covered with an anti-vandal film to protect it from mechanical damage.

The product can be covered with leather, clapboard, plywood.

Step-by-step technology for insulating an iron entrance door

It is up to you to decide how to insulate, most often the choice depends on the technical condition of the product, material capabilities, preferences and taste. Upholstery work is performed after removing the door from the hinges, removing the handles, peephole, lock. The front door is best faced on both sides.

By insulating the door, you will get rid of problems in the form of extraneous noise and can calmly rest in your warm and cozy apartment.
