It is difficult to judge the quality, and even more so the environmental friendliness of such products. Making wooden doors is not a very simple matter. And when there is a desire and need to make a solid, reliable product with your own hands, you need to prepare a carpentry tool, suitable material, and get down to business. Let's take a closer look at several options for how to make a door from boards with your own hands.

The classification of products depends on the features of their design:

  • From an array. The fabric of the product is assembled from a thick grooved board. The rigidity of the structure is provided by inclined or horizontal lintels.
  • Paneled. It is a frame assembled from processed boards and inserts - panels. The assembly of the product is carried out using wood glue. Making a paneled wooden door with your own hands can be difficult. The workflow requires machine tools and carpentry skills.
  • Shield doors can be conventionally called wooden. The construction is based on a wood frame. Most often, MDF or plywood is used as external cladding. Material selection

Wood species

  • Pine is easy to handle, but dries up over time. Possesses high resin content. The presence of blue on the surface of the material indicates a violation of the storage technology.
  • Spruce is a soft wood with a golden hue, capable of retaining its natural color for a long time. The breed has a low resinous content and is not prone to cracking, has few knots, but is more difficult in the process of grinding and cutting than pine.
  • Larch is an expensive material with a dense, homogeneous structure. Does not rot and does not require additional processing with special protective compounds.
  • Cedar is a durable and expensive wood. Does not give in to decay, has a pleasant aroma and antiseptic properties, providing healing properties on others. Its color ranges from light pink and light beige to dark brown.
  • Oak is an excellent material for strength and durability, but difficult to process. If the technology is not followed, it can split.

Lumber selection criteria

If the choice of wood depends more on financial capabilities, then you should not save on quality. Even inexpensive lumber needs to be well dried and processed. The manufacturing technology of wooden doors is not so simple, and depends on the design. For example, the production of paneled doors requires good tool handling and machine tool skills. Consider several options for how to make the front door to a house, bathhouse or outbuilding.

Solid wood door

From the array, you can assemble the entrance doors to the house, bathhouse, utility room, interior designs... For living quarters, products are carefully processed so that they have an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The simplest panel doors made of wood are a solid panel reinforced with transverse or diagonal elements. A tongue-and-groove board or ordinary (for outbuildings) is suitable for the construction.   • According to the marking, a groove is cut out with a milling cutter, up to half the thickness of the board.
  • The crossbar is driven into the groove from the side, gently knocking it into place with a mallet.

  • The initial stage is drawing up a detailed drawing with measurements of all individual structural elements. It is necessary to take into account not only the length and width of each part of the web, but also the parameters of the groove.
  • For the manufacture of the frame and crossbars, a board or bar is used. The elements are processed with a milling cutter to obtain a tenon and a groove in accordance with the drawings.
  • A groove is made at the ends of the transverse elements for further installation of panels.
  • For panels, use a board, chipboard, plywood or glass (for interior structures).
  • The surface of the wooden panels is processed with a milling cutter to obtain a relief, or left smooth. Reduce the thickness of the edge so that it fits freely into the groove of the crossbars.
  • Before assembly, all structural elements are impregnated with an antiseptic and allowed to dry.
  • Do-it-yourself door assembly is performed on a flat surface. All joints are coated with wood glue.
  • The finished canvas is carefully knocked out with a mallet at all joints, the degrees of the corners are checked, squeezed with clamps and left until dry.

Panel construction

It is necessary to decide on the manufacturing technology, since you can make a wooden door with your own hands in one of three ways:

  1. Assemble the harness, inside which to mount a small-filled or solid board.
  2. Make a shield, then tie around it and revet the product.
  3. Make a separate shield and frame, assemble into a single structure and revet.

The order of the door assembly in the first way is as follows:

  • For strapping, choose a bar of a suitable section (for example, 30 * 120 mm), cut it in accordance with measurements of the length and width of the web.
  • To connect the frame elements to each other in the end parts of the timber, recesses are cut out for the joint "in half a tree" or "in the paw".
  • Joiner's glue is applied to the prepared grooves and connected to each other. At this stage, the degree of all angles is controlled.
  • After drying, through holes with a diameter of up to 10 mm are drilled at the joints, into which pins are driven in, having previously lubricated them with wood glue.
  • When the panel being made has dried at the joints, one side of the structure can be clad with fiberboard or plywood. The material, sawn to the size of the canvas, is laid on a flat surface, the location of the frame is marked. Those places where there will be a connection of the cladding with the frame are well coated with wood glue, after which the frame is laid and pressed with a press until it dries.
  • Next, you can fill the inside of the frame with low-grade wood, beams, pieces of MDF. The filler elements are connected with carpentry glue and placed on the lower facing sheet between the beams of the strapping frame.
  • The top cladding is installed after the filling layer has dried.
  • Finally, the surface of the web and the end parts of the frame are milled.

How to make wooden doors with your own hands? The answer is simple: you don't have to have a lot of experience and special education... Making entrance doors from wood is a process that requires a little free time, skill and the desire to do a good thing. with my own hands... Or rather not even paint, but universal acrylic enamel. According to manufacturers, such enamel is an environmentally friendly and safe product. Weatherproof, used for outdoor and internal works, designed for all surfaces: wood, metal, concrete, brick, plaster, etc. Enamel can be diluted with water, but not more than 5% of the total volume.

How to make an interior door. Planning.

First of all, of course, we need to plan the dimensions of the future interior door, from what material we will make it. The first thing that comes to mind is a frame door sheathed with MDF, fiberboard or plywood. Why wireframe? Firstly, there are no skills to make an interior door made of natural wood correctly and efficiently, so that it does not fall apart and dry out in the near future. Secondly, there is no special woodworking equipment. In the case of a frame door, neither the first nor the second is needed.

As I said, the doorway where the door needs to be installed is non-standard. It measures 79x186 cm. So, the plan of the interior door is in the picture below.

We will need

According to the plan, we cut the timber to the required length. We connect with each other with self-tapping screws and fix with corners for greater strength and stability of the structure.

I immediately burned the side of the frame, since I had not originally planned to paint the door. And I wanted to burn the wooden parts and varnish them. The first photos show a trial version of the opening. But I didn't like how the fiberboard looks. Therefore, later I abandoned this idea and decided to paint over everything with paint. Although it is possible to trim the door with veneer. Thus, to preserve the appearance and structure of wooden elements as much as possible - platbands, opening.

I also had an idea to use plywood. I went shopping, in none of them I found sheets 1.2 * 2.4, everywhere there were only 1.5 * 1.5. But the Internet is full of such offers. Apparently in our town this is not in use, therefore they do not sell, and if they bring it only on order in certain volumes. In general, as I paint, I will definitely post a photo of what happened. I hope everything will be great.

We cut off the sheets of fiberboard and make a little more than the frame of the interior door, literally by a couple of millimeters. We plant them on liquid nails and clamp them with a clamp until they are completely dry. You don't need to apply too much glue, as it will creep out, which is ugly.

You can decorate the door with a decorative strip. There are different patterns (curly, openwork, simple straight, etc.) and sizes.

A wide range of inexpensive MDF or plastic doors makes it easy to find a beautiful factory product with the right dimensions. However, such doors do not always meet the declared requirements for quality and practicality. For example, for outbuildings: a bathhouse, a shed, a summer kitchen or a shower, robust structures, which are not afraid of temperature drops, moisture and strong wind. In this case, it is best to make doors from boards with your own hands.

Material preparation

Craftsmen who make wood furniture say that it is best to work with oak. However, the use of such wood for the production of doors is irrational, since it is very heavy, therefore pine is more often used. Spruce is less commonly used due to its numerous knots and exfoliating fibrous structure.

When choosing boards, you need to look so that the surface is flat and does not have blue. If you are not sure of the correct storage of the boards, then they need to be additionally dried for two months at a temperature of +25 degrees. The procedure can be accelerated using a drying chamber, but the maximum allowable temperature is +50 degrees. At high marks, resin flows out of the wood, holding the fibers together, and the boards begin to dry out. You need to select and prepare material, following these rules:

  • it is worth buying commercial wood, which is characterized by a small number of small knots;
  • Residual moisture in the range of 12-15% is considered normal;
  • having laid the boards using the “thorn-groove” method, it is necessary to check that they are not bent or bent;
  • interior doors can be made from boards with a thickness of 2.5-3.5 cm, and entrance doors - 3.5-5 cm.

Making a door leaf from solid wood

Creation procedure door leaf is determined by its type, and it is possible to make three types of doors with your own hands. Massive is a flat surface created by joining planed boards. Entrance doors are made from cedar, oak and larch, and in a barn or a bathhouse, you can make a canvas from a pine board. To make them yourself, you need to follow these steps:

  1. An array and marking boards (short horizontal and long vertical) are laid on a horizontal surface.
  2. In compliance with right angle docking, the marking of the joints of the boards is carried out. After that, spikes are cut out on long boards.
  3. A spike is cut along the long inner side of the short boards, and a groove is cut at the ends.
  4. Grooves and tenons are coated with wood glue and fastened. It is necessary to lay the boards so that the pattern of the annual rings looks in one direction.
  5. The assembled shield must be squeezed from all sides and left to dry for 72 hours.
  6. The finished shield is processed with a grinder to make the surface smooth and hide the seams, and then the strapping is done. The number of crossbars is selected depending on the size and weight of the door made by hand.

Not having professional skills, and wanting to make doors to a bathhouse or a shed with your own hands, it is better to cut out a simple thorn in half the thickness of the board. This work is carried out very carefully, since even a small gap can bend the canvas and cause a loose fit of the wood.

Making paneled doors with your own hands

Paneled - this is a product with various decorative notches, which looks quite worthy, but is rarely used in the exterior. To make paneled doors with your own hands, you first need to make a drawing indicating the dimensions of the boards and panels. In accordance with the drawing, the bars for the frame and panels are cut in turn. The latter should freely enter the grooves on the bars, so the thickness of their edges is made less than the grooves by 1-2 mm. After processing all the elements with an antiseptic and drying, the grooves are greased with glue. All parts are assembled on a horizontal surface in the following sequence: diameters and panels are glued to the vertical beam, then the middle panels, the remaining diameters and panels, the second vertical beam and framing glazing beads. Considering the principle of the element-by-element assembly of such a door, the paneled canvas can be easily decorated with glass stained-glass windows.

Manufacturing of a panel structure

Panel boards are budget structures that are made of low quality boards, filled with edged beams inside, or remain hollow. To hide the external "defectiveness" of this door, it is sheathed with decorative surfaces made of MDF or plastic. This is a simple and inexpensive option for arranging entrances to a basement, shed or attic. In principle, they are also suitable for a bath, but then you need to use high-quality boards and process them correctly. The production process involves the following stages:

  1. A bar is selected suitable size so that you can make a strapping frame, and after marking, spikes are cut in half the tree.
  2. After gluing the boards along the grooves, pins are driven into the corners.
  3. If the door is to be placed in the bath, then to increase its rigidity, two middle cross-pieces must be made.
  4. One side is sheathed with a selected inexpensive material: a fiberboard sheet or a thin board shield.
  5. A filler is glued to the bottom facing sheet, most often these are wood scraps. But when making panel door in the bath, it is better to put the thickest layer good insulation, for example, from mineral wool.
  6. When the glue is completely dry, suture outer sheet Fiberboard and decorative design is created if necessary.

Making a frame with your own hands

After the door leaf is ready, making a frame for it is already as easy as shelling pears. It is enough to glue two vertical posts and two crossbars using the thorn-groove method the right size... It is enough to cover the interior doors with varnish, and the entrance structures to the house or bath must be treated not only with antiseptics, but also with several layers of paint. Varieties of construction

How to make a box correctly?

Each new layer of lamellas is set at 90 degrees in relation to the previous one (perpendicular), which allows to achieve high reliability and strength of the material.

If you decide to make a door from boards yourself, be prepared for the fact that it will not be as perfect as you see them in stores. However, it will cost you much less. It is important to have the desire, patience and understanding of all stages of work.

Getting ready for work

During cutting, carefully cut the corners strictly at 90 °, otherwise the product will not fit into the box and will look ugly. Buy fiberboard for doors with maximum density, without dents and scratches;
  • purchase an unplaned inch board, it will come in handy for making a frame on which fiberboard canvases are attached. The type of wood does not matter here, unlike the weight, since the doors should not be heavy. We make a frame: we cut off 2 long pieces corresponding to the length of the finished product, and 3 pieces wide to the door. Don't forget to sand the edges;
  • an important rule is that it is necessary to assemble the structure on a flat surface, for example, on the floor. However, take care of the floor and cover it with newspapers. First, we lay the fiberboard canvas, smooth side looks down. On top we lay out long blanks from the boards, then blanks along the width of the door. As a result, you should get a rectangle, and the frame should match the fiberboard canvas everywhere;
  • at this stage, you need to inspect the structure and decide where the top of the product will be, and where the bottom will be, and proceed to the marking. You also need to decide whether you will insert glass. If yes, then it is necessary to make markings for the glasses. In addition, you need to mark the clear location of the boards to cut down the connecting spikes. Such markings are carried out in places where long and short workpieces intersect. We advise you to number and sign all the blanks, so you yourself will facilitate the assembly process;
  • we make thorns (connecting elements). Here you need to be as careful as possible, because we are working with a file. Remember: it is better not to finish, because this will make it possible to avoid complete sawing off, because then you can adjust the dimensions with your own hands using a chisel. The spikes are made, we lay out the entire structure of the boards on the floor and check the connections. Do not allow any protrusions.

We mount the door with our own hands

We have disassembled the points on how to make a door; now let's see how to mount it. It is necessary to attach the fiberboard to the wood frame. For this, a special adhesive is used. Apply a layer of glue where the basting was. For greater reliability, you can also fasten the structure in the upper parts with self-tapping screws. This must be done so that the caps of the screws do not protrude above the fiberboard. In the same way, we attach the second fiberboard sheet to the frame. Remember to make sure all edges and corners match. Put the structure glued with your own hands under the load, for which cover the door with a sheet of fiberboard, and evenly distribute the load over the entire surface of the product.

Veneer finish

As we said, veneer will give a handmade door a finished look. Veneer is a thin material imitating wood. Before finishing the door with veneer, you must first prepare the surface, which should be perfectly flat. Prepare the surface thoroughly with your own hands to avoid chips, bumps, scratches. In addition, sand the surface with sandpaper. To glue the veneer, purchase a special wood glue.
