Sewing bed linen at first seems like a very dreary task: why do it, because the stores are full of various sets for every taste! Only now, looking at the prices, we understand that sometimes it is not a sin to sew it yourself, because the savings are at least twice as much! But how to sew a pillow case quickly and beautifully? In today's master class, we will step by step consider sewing three variants of covers at once: a standard one for the smell, with a zipper, and a cover with decorative "ears". All of them are applicable absolutely to any interior, are simple to perform and will be within the power of novice seamstresses.
A wraparound pillowcase is the most common and simplest way to decorate and protect your pillow from dust. In this case, the "cover" will be the same both from the face and from the inside, without unnecessary seams and fasteners. The pillow is securely fixed inside, and it will not be difficult to get it out. Sewing a standard wrap-around pillowcase is so easy you don't even need a pattern! The whole process - from marking to the finished product - will take you less than an hour.
For work we need the following tools and materials:
First, we take measurements from the pillow - length and width. We add 5 cm to the measurements for freedom of fit. If the pillow is not tightly stuffed or you are more comfortable when the pillowcase fits tightly, we recommend adding not 5, but 3 cm. Please note that after washing the fabric may shrink, so the increase should be at least 3 cm!
The direction of the common thread is not important - it can be located both along and across the product.
Now we need to cut out the constructed rectangular part.
After that - directly sewing the product. First, we process both short sides - we fold the edges of the fabric twice and sew them into the edge with a hemmed seam.
Then we lay out the blank of the cover on the table and fold the part in half with the wrong side inward and turn the smell inward. Once again we check the length of the pillowcase: it should be the length of the pillow + 3-5 cm, the rest is removed in the smell.
Align the cover along the edges. We cut it on both sides with tailor's pins.
We sew the sides, retreating 5 millimeters from the edges. Make sure that the edges of the scent go into the side seams of the cover.
We turn the cover to the wrong side. We also turn out the smell. Gently turn out and straighten all the corners and stitches.
We sew side seams from the seamy side. We retreat from the edge by 8-10 millimeters.
We turn it out. Pillowcase 50x50 or 50x70 is ready!
There are several ways how to sew a zipper into a pillowcase, but if you need to do it as quickly and unpretentiously as possible, this master class will do the best! Follow our advice, and you will have sewn a cover in just an hour, even if you have recently started sewing!
For work we need the following tools and materials:
First, we need to cut out the details of the cover. The size of each cut out part should be 2 centimeters larger than the size of the pillow (we lay 1 cm of allowances on each side). We glue them with interlining.
Fold the blanks with the wrong side out and pin one of the sides with tailor's pins. We mark with a marker along the top and bottom a distance of 5 centimeters.
We lay a seam: at intervals of 5 centimeters at the top and bottom, the seam should be with a standard stitch length; between the markers we lay a seam with elongated stitches (broom). Don't forget to bartack around the markers!
We iron out the seam. Unzip the zipper halfway. To fix the open ends of the fastener, we fix it with masking tape.
We put the zipper in the center of the seam with the front side (lock) down. Make sure that the teeth are located strictly along the seam. The edges of the clasp at the top and bottom extend over the markers by 5 centimeters. To fix the zipper, again, we use masking tape or tailor's pins. Using a special foot for sewing in a zipper, we sew it to the blanks for the cover.
After we sew in the clasp, unfold the basting.
Then we fold the details of the cover on the pillows along the sewn-in fastener and pin off the sections with tailor's pins. We check that the zipper is halfway open. Now we will sew them, stepping back 1 centimeter from the cuts.
The sewing of the zippered pillowcases is complete! It remains to turn it out on the front side and iron it with an iron.
This option is suitable for those who want to sew both functional and decorative pillowcase at the same time. The principle of operation is similar to the two previous options, so even a beginner can sew this cover.
For sewing we need the following tools and materials:

Having cut out the details, we proceed to processing the cuts of the purl parts.
We turn the side up by 2.5 centimeters and press it on.
Tuck again by 2.5 centimeters, iron and pin with tailor's pins.
We sew on a sewing machine, as shown in the photo, that is, stepping back three millimeters from the edge.
Sew the second purl in the same way.
We lay out the front blank on the table with the wrong side down, put on top of it, leveling the cuts, the blanks of the back side face down (the processed cuts lie in the center with an overlap).
We cut along the perimeter with tailor's pins and sew on a typewriter, stepping back 1 centimeter.
Cut the corners and turn the pillow cover inside out. We straighten and iron.
It was the turn of the ears. We cut off the layers of fabric so that they do not shift during the sewing process:

You need to choose material for sewing a pillowcase not only in accordance with your wishes, but also focusing on the sleeping attribute for which the “clothes” are being prepared. The softer and softer the pillow filler, the more delicate the pillowcase should be. If the filler is fluffy, then it cannot do without a dense cover.
Ideally, the filling material and the pillowcase are of the same origin. For example, wool filling and wool blend pillowcase. Bamboo filler blends well with cotton fabric. A cambric pillowcase fits a feather pillow.

So, if after folding a strip of fabric in half, a ruffle up to 10 cm wide is obtained, then the subsequent ruffle should have a width of at least 13 cm.
