The English décor is suitable for level-headed natures seeking peace of mind, who value stability in relationships.

Possible design options

Interiors in English style look expensive and laconic. Such a design makes it possible to demonstrate excellent taste, bordering on sophistication, and requires the use of expensive materials, high-quality textiles.

If you are going to decorate a bedroom in the spirit of English traditions, you need to decide on the basic concept: this style can be implemented in several versions. It has evolved over the centuries, has gone through several expressive stages that have left their mark.

The furnishings in the spirit of medieval England look elegant and solid thanks to the numerous textures, also characteristic of the rustic style, and materials of natural origin. Wooden details are complemented by stone - fireplace cladding or masonry on the wall.

Furniture for interiors in this style is selected simple and restrained, with a somewhat rude configuration. Color is given by ceilings and beams made of wood and wall finishes of the same material.

It is not necessary to turn the bedroom into a room that resembles a chambers in a fortress. A rustic variety of the English style is characterized by light colors, numerous textiles different colors, forged details, pleasant configuration of pieces of furniture.

The interior components are distinguished by restraint and at the same time elegance.

Gothic English interiors include carvings, elaborate decorations, furnishings and décor in dark, almost black wood.

A distinctive feature of these bedrooms are large beds with fabric canopies on massive, carved legs. Window openings are high, but not wide.

If you decide to decorate a bedroom in a similar design in a modern house or apartment, use dark wood and carved panels in the design. The most popular in those days was the oak type of wood. The advantages of wood products and finishes include strength and durability.

During the Regency era, optional decorative elements were used. Lace, columns with graceful shapes, canopies or their imitation, products made by artistic forging, carvings, fur carpets on the floor - these are the main components of the bedroom interior, designed in the English style, popular in the era of the regency.

But for the Gregorian direction, practicality, excessive restraint and asceticism are characteristic: a minimum amount of furniture, uncomplicated configurations and an almost complete absence of decorative elements.

The design is dominated by wood of a red hue, the obligatory attributes are a fireplace and panels on the walls. The bed is selected based on the size of the room, with a laconic headboard without carved patterns and other decorations.

Chairs are replaced with chairs with long backs made of wood; small square pillows in muted-colored covers are laid on them. If you value comfort, it is preferable to choose half-chairs.

Design in the spirit Victorian era radically different from the Gregorian. It is dominated by an eclectic idea that combines various interior details into a vivid picture. In such a room, furniture decorated with carvings is appropriate, unusual curtains in oriental style, wool carpet with an original pattern.

The walls are often decorated with antique weapons. An armchair with leather upholstery, a carved fireplace screen and other decorative elements typical for English classics give additional comfort to the room.

An association best features all varieties of the English style and shaped the design that is so popular today. It originated at the turn of the nineteenth century, and now has many fans.

Space and functionality - today attracts many. But there are still people who will like luxury and style. The English interior is just that.

Luxury and restraint, and at the same time, rustic simplicity, this is how the English style is described in the design of rooms.

Most likely, it is worth talking about the English style, as a person begins to imagine it in his own way, how he imagines this country.

What will characterize an English-style bedroom?

A flower or stripe on wallpaper or upholstery. This is one of the most striking features of the English style.

The material must be of good quality, expensive quality. For example, textile wallpaper, silk-screen printing are used. Painting the walls is not excluded. For this, a stencil is used to make interesting ornaments.

They stick to pastel colors that are not provocative. As a rule, a light tone is chosen, and the drawing is performed in golden shades.

The bed should be on high legs. Since the British love to sleep softly, it is not necessary that she had high legs, there will be enough lush featherbeds. Canopy stands are not needed, it hangs just a little over the headboard.

Furniture is provided in this style, quite a few. An armchair and a table, an integral part of the English style of the bedroom.

Banquets, bedside tables, dressing tables, bureaus - these are the main furniture that is installed even in the smallest room. Most often, furniture in such an interior should be paired, especially for chairs, armchairs and ottomans.

The fireplace is also one of the most important foundations of the English style. Now it is no longer necessary to have a natural fireplace, in stores today there is a huge assortment of their substitutes.

Heavy curtains with lush draperies and lambrequins, most often can be decorated with tassels and fringes.

The colors of the curtains must necessarily match any element of the bedroom. Whether it's a flower on the wallpaper or an ornament like the upholstery of an armchair or the same sofa.

The ceiling should be snow-white with a chic chandelier. As a rule, curbs and moldings can be seen on the ceiling. Also very popular are wooden inserts, painted white. Or the wood can be matched to the window frames or furniture.

The floors are made only of expensive wood species. In modern times, laminate or parquet boards are increasingly used.

As a rule, floors are inherent in dark shades. You can also lay a carpet on the floor, but it needs a muted, not eye-catching color.

Carpets are also applicable in the English style, but it is sufficient only in the middle of the room, or on each side of the bed.

The pile on the carpet should never be large. The material of the carpet must be equated to natural.

It is imperative that all materials used in the English style must be natural. You need to understand that the interior is in the English style, an expensive pleasure. It requires only natural materials and the finish should not be cheap.

But it is not necessary to follow all the conventions, you can also bring modernity and lightness into the English design and it will look no worse.

Photo of a bedroom in the English style

Today, the owners of square meters, starting the interior design, prefer that everything in the apartment (house) was as convenient and functional as possible. But not everyone is satisfied with laconic settings.

There are still quite a few adherents of luxury and classics. Their attention is often attracted, for example, by the living room or bedroom in the English style, because the English style harmoniously retained the strict Gregorianism that can be found in every medieval castle, and the simple, kind, friendly Victorianism, which was chosen to decorate almost every English country house. ... Therefore, this style successfully combined features of luxury, simplicity and convenience.

Who should pay attention to the design style of the old, classic Britain? Owners of a small number of squares, because classic English houses were never large, but rather, on the contrary, compact and small in size. The classic aristocracy of this style, combined with coziness, comfort, is perfect for those who are forever in love with interior classics.

Passionate collectors and book lovers should also pay attention to this style: english interior assumes a huge number of accessories, souvenirs, decor items, heirlooms and extensive bookshelves.

On a note! The interior of such a room will not suit those who are in love with minimalism and adore empty space.

A Victorian bedroom should have a lot of massive, solid furniture that takes up almost the entire room.

The first thing you notice when you get into an English bedroom is quality in everything. The furnishings of this room should be expensive, but not flashy, ostentatious, but restrained, tasteful. Everything here should be of high quality and expensive - from accessories to textiles.

  • floral, "Scottish" print;
  • furniture massiveness;
  • white ceiling with a beautiful chandelier;
  • lush curtains;

  • fireplace;
  • only natural materials;

  • the complete absence of modern technology, gadgets;
  • a combination of monumentality and graceful details.

In such a bedroom, everything is thought out, everything is in its place, everything is justified and functional. There is no place for disorder, chaos, arrogance, brightness, tastelessness.

Such an interior is built extremely deliberately, without haste and fuss. The room is decorated for a long time period, during which, usually, no changes are made: conservatism and tradition are another sign of the English style.

Important! In such a bedroom, no one will often re-glue the wallpaper, change or even simply rearrange the furniture.

For years here all the items will be in the places once chosen for them.

The English style in the interior of the bedroom is characterized by a simultaneous mixture of aristocratic restraint and homely warmth. Therefore, a calm color palette can be combined here, for example, with floral prints on the walls or bright accents. If brightness is chosen for walls, furniture should be in calmer shades. White color in the bedroom will be present on the ceiling, door leaves, window frames, skirting boards.

If the room faces the north side, a warmer palette with a predominance of gold, yellow, and brown should be preferred in the design. If the windows face south - cold, in which azure, green, blue will dominate.

It should not be forgotten that in the bedroom you will rest and relax, so there can be nothing too bright, “cutting eyes”, exciting in color: thoughtful harmony should reign in the room.

Important! Lighting in the British bedroom is always soft and diffused.

To do this, a chandelier with many decorative elements is usually located on the ceiling, there are table lamps, floor lamps with fabric lampshades, sconces that look like candelabra. Lighting should not only calm and relax, but demonstrate the owner's excellent taste. And very often the English bedroom is illuminated by the reflections of a real fire in the fireplace and nothing else. Admiring them, you can very quickly plunge into sleep or light nap!

English style bedroom design: floral prints, tartan

True British design cannot be imagined without two things - a floral print and a tartan ornament. Flowers can be present on almost everything - furniture, walls, textiles, carpets. This includes furniture upholstery, curtains, and wallpaper.

Moreover, on each element, the print can be different, and in it, in turn, flowers and floral abstraction can be combined. However, one should not think that the choice in favor of floral motifs is a simple decision, since it is a very difficult task to successfully and harmoniously combine them with each other. Here you can choose some color element that will be repeated everywhere with a certain leitmotif, or choose something as neutral as possible.

Ornament "tartan" or "tartan" is a real symbol for the British interior in general, and for the bedroom in particular. It is impossible to imagine a room without it. Usually it goes well with stripes, colors, " crow's feet". The cage is found in textiles, upholstery, decor and creates a cozy, warm atmosphere in the room.

Surface finishing of floors, walls, ceilings

The walls of an English bedroom are rarely monochromatic. The main materials for the walls are wallpaper, paint. But they must be expensive, solid, solid. Therefore, it is worth giving preference to wallpaper made of fabric with elements of silk-screen printing and embossing. An English-style bedroom can, of course, have painted walls.

In this case, the background colors should be muted pastel, matte, and on top, either original or stencil, gold, bronze with glitter is applied by hand. And in order not to be mistaken in the correctness of the combinations, look at the photo: taste and harmony must be observed!

An English floor must certainly be made of expensive wood species. It can be parquet or boards. Modern realities allow their replacement with laminate. But it must imitate the texture of wood, be expensive and of high quality. The color of the floor is chosen dark, saturated. Carpets of a soft, pastel palette in a flower, a cage, a strip will help to save him from "gloom". At the same time, the color is often slightly faded, not juicy.

The ceiling in a British bedroom is usually painted white. No stretch suspended structures, panels, wallpaper. It can be decorated with wooden beams, but only if the ceiling height allows it (at least 280 cm!). Otherwise, the beams will simply “take” the space, and the ceiling will begin to “press”, causing discomfort and sometimes claustrophobia. If the ceiling is just painted (without beams), you can supplement it with moldings, "rosettes", decorative borders, baseboards.

English furniture

In order for the interior of the bedroom to be truly English, the following furniture elements must be present in it:

  • massive bed (main element);
  • chair pair (expensive upholstery, curved legs);

  • chairs (design is identical to chairs);
  • shelves or bookcase (required);

  • tea, coffee table;
  • dressing table;
  • sofa, bench.

The interior of the bedroom in the English style is the main place for the beds. This is evidenced by absolutely all photos illustrating articles and guides on this interior. Moreover, the bed (or bedroom set) must meet certain requirements. Namely: to have the maximum possible dimensions, high, carved, curved legs, a fabric canopy or canopy, a massive, soft, fabric headboard with carvings or forged elements.

Naturally, such a bed is made exclusively from expensive wood. There should be nightstands on both sides of the bed. Above the bed should be hung paired lamps, sconces and ... bookshelves. Since the true English love, lying in bed, reading before bedtime.

Despite the fact that furniture is usually kept in the same style, the British love to combine elements from different manufacturers. Therefore, in the bedroom you can often find an English bed and a sofa, a banquet from India. Do not forget about the law of pairing: there must be a pair of bedside tables, chairs, armchairs in a British bedroom.

They usually stand by the window, fireplace, and floor lamps next to them. Upholstery should be leather, velvet, tapestry, often with gold embroidery.

An English bedroom interior is impossible without a lot of textiles. Moreover, in this sense, the interior tends to be more rustic than chateau, Gregorian. Therefore, the use of hand-made items is encouraged: knitted pillowcases, rugs, blankets, napkins. Curtains on windows should have several layers, lush folds, waves, be decorated with lambrequins, tassels, fall down to the floor. The colors, respectively, are floral-floral with embossing.

The main colors of textiles are sand, terracotta, burgundy, green, brown. In a word, muted, deep, but not bright. All textile elements - from pillowcases to floor lamps - must be consistent in a single style, harmonize and match. And the materials for them are chosen exclusively natural.

To look at the room and say with confidence that this is a bedroom in the English style, the design of the room is impossible without a huge number of accessories. Moreover, the central place here should be occupied, as can be seen in the proposed photos, family heirlooms, books.

In addition to the objects and a fireplace already indicated above, the room should contain vases with natural flowers, porcelain figurines, napkins, pillows, paintings with natural, rural subjects (watercolor, oil), and ceramics. And, of course, many family photos in expensive wooden frames. They usually stand on bedside tables or occupy one of the central walls.

Notes of the English style in the bedroom (video)

English country style for decorating a bedroom, it is suitable for those who love restraint and simplicity in the interior. This style involves the use of environmentally friendly, natural materials, a large amount of wood, decor items. An important element is the fireplace. It can become the central piece of the interior, create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort.

The English interior in the bedroom is an example of austerity and elegance. Restraint and austerity emphasize the good taste of the owner of the apartment. The styling is a tribute to tradition, some design elements come from the Victorian and Gregorian eras. The design direction has changed several times, but has always remained calm, even with elements of luxury and a claim to classic style... This style will suit calm and balanced people who are not used to saving - the English style looks and is expensive. It will help you find harmony in your soul and relax after hard working days.

Distinctive features

The English style does not have clear criteria due to the abundance of sub-points and directions. The interesting thing is that with just a few details, the interior changes beyond recognition. The English style can be austere and concise, but add a couple of accessories and the room is filled with femininity and romance.

The interior is changeable, but at the same time has characteristic features:

  • canopy - often, instead of a full-fledged design, decorative curtains are used due to the impracticality and heaviness of the design;
  • freedom - the style began to be used in the homes of aristocrats, who did not suffer from a lack of residential square meters;
  • diversity - in the era of the emergence of orientation, it was fashionable to bring elements from oriental cultures;
  • wood - valuable types of wood are used in the manufacture of furniture, and for installing the floor, and for decorating the walls;
  • fabrics - an abundance of textile elements also sets the mood of the room and gives an atmosphere of coziness;
  • sophisticated and meticulous decor - each accessory in the room has its place. There are no useless trinkets in the bedroom;
  • live fire - fireplaces have become an integral part of the English interior, but in apartments it is customary to replace it with candles or electric imitations.

Initially, the style was positioned as luxurious, but in modern realities, the design had to adapt to the needs of the person. Style balances on a fine line between technology and tradition, successfully combining both. The style seems conservative and prim, and in a sense it is - thanks to this, the style has acquired a unique atmosphere. In the era of colonization, the British had a hard time, it was from there that the desire for the laconicism of the interior began.

The main idea of any English stylistic trend is luxury on the verge of sophistication and restraint. Finding such a balance can be difficult; harmony is achieved through the purchase of expensive and high-quality materials. Style can turn a room into a stone fortress or a simple country house - it depends on the wishes of the owners. The style combines the best traditions of different eras, and since the middle of the 19th century it has been keeping pace with the times.

Furniture in the bedroom

Naturally, furniture for the bedroom is also purchased expensive and of high quality, from valuable wood species. Style implies the purchase of headsets made in a single design. A large amount of free space implies the presence of an impressive set of furniture:

  • beds;
  • cabinet;
  • dressing table;
  • bureau or secretary;
  • bedside tables;
  • comfortable chairs and sofas;
  • workplace - desk and a chair;
  • dressing table.

Each piece of furniture is the embodiment of art - the English style does not tolerate banal solutions. Handcrafted furniture is prized, and antique and heirloom furnishings become a real decoration of the interior. Manufacturing of custom-made furniture, including those with an aging effect, is encouraged.

The main element of the interior is the bed. It is a massive yet sophisticated and elegant piece of art. Even in appearance, the bed is heavy, but comfortable - the dimensions are compensated for by graceful decorations. In this capacity, carved elements, hand-painted, textiles are used. It was not customary to order all the furniture from one master, so small differences in items will only add a true English spirit to the interior. The bed is no longer decorated with anything, it itself attracts attention, and the canopy plays the role of a decorative element. Here it is decorated with ruffles, flounces and grabs.

The English style welcomes the furnishing of a seating area in the bedroom. It can be a pair of soft chairs or a comfortable rocking chair. If there is free space, it is permissible to install a sofa. Such furniture is made soft and comfortable, upholstered with leather or expensive fabrics. A bookcase with open or closed shelves fits in surprisingly harmoniously into the interior. The British love to read before going to bed, so shelves with magazines and books will benefit the interior. To store things, use a large wardrobe and dressers, if it is not possible to equip a separate dressing room... For the fair sex, a good dressing table with a large mirror and drawers... And, of course, there should be comfortable cabinets on both sides of the bed.

Accessories and lighting

British style means a moderate amount of lighting. No one interferes with the daytime rays in the room, but in the evening you cannot do without additional lamps. Excessive brightness is useless, but the number and types of lamps must exactly match the purpose and needs:

  • wall sconces allow lighting small area beds sufficient for reading;
  • table lamps also work as spotlights near the bed or on tables;
  • built-in lighting is useful for dressing tables and mirrors, as well as for use in a stretch ceiling;
  • floor lamps successfully replace table options, but take up more space;
  • the central chandelier is a necessary item, it replaces natural sunlight.

Lamps are made simple, but elegant, they are decorated with carvings and simple drawings. It is based on wood or metal, and lampshades are traditionally made from fabrics. As additional source lights often use live fire. The fireplace is a traditional attribute of the English style, but in modern apartment there is no place for it - it is unlikely that state bodies will approve the construction of a chimney in a high-rise building. Instead, quality imitations and bio fireplaces are used. It is also permissible to use high-quality imitations of candlesticks with candles. All light sources must necessarily have a function for adjusting the intensity of lighting, so that it is possible to create a pleasant twilight in the bedroom.

Interesting decorative elements help to embellish the restrained British interior. Pictures in beautiful wooden frames, photographs, as well as wall clocks are hung on the walls. They decorate the room with vases, chests and original boxes. Large-sized decor should be abandoned, as well as the abundance of accessories - patterns and furniture should attract attention. The room should be diluted with “soft” accessories, for example, decorative pillows, beautiful carpets and bedside rugs. Some designers suggest emphasizing the English style with traditional symbols - flags, coats of arms and drawings. This solution is not very popular, but it fits well into the interior of the room if used in limited quantities.

Shades and patterns

Restrained English style suggests a fairly rich, but at the same time calm color range... Most often, natural shades of wood are found - it is not customary to paint furniture, it is only covered with protective compounds, emphasizing the natural color palette. There are also other shades:

  • terracotta;
  • beige;
  • burgundy;
  • dark green;
  • sand;
  • chocolate tone.

Most often, a dark, light design is rare. This solution looks no less impressive, moreover, it is a neutral and light color scheme that is best suited for a bedroom. The interior will not be boring, use is appropriate bright accents- fresh flowers, plants in pots, original pillowcases. The restraint of this style sets you up for a relaxing mood, so the English style is perfect for bedrooms.

It is worth noting that excessive diversity in the British bedroom is useless. It is worth avoiding the abundance of juicy, bright shades - their use is permissible, but only as accents. English bedroom in the traditional version has a warm mood due to the abundance brown tone and its shades. Not everyone likes the same color palette, therefore, it is possible to compensate for it with cool tones: green, blue and gray. The use of both monochrome tones and play on contrasts is encouraged. Dark furniture looks good against the background of light walls and textiles.

Preferably the presence of noble and deep tones - bitter chocolate, wine and mustard are successfully combined with shades of beige and ivory. Do not think that the interior must be performed only in one range - it is possible to take two or three basic color tones as a basis. One of them is for furniture, most often it is dark shade, the second tone will be used for the walls, and its shades are suitable for the floor and ceiling. The third shade is light, it will make the interior sunny and lively. It is worth remembering about the natural shades inherent in nature itself - the English style loves plant motifs and drawings that are depicted in their natural form.

Fabrics

The English style assumes a lot of textiles in the room. Used expensive textiles, which are also called noble. The use of synthetics is unacceptable, even for light curtains, a simple but natural chintz is used instead of artificial tulle. Other natural fabrics are also welcome:

  • cotton;
  • brocade;
  • velvet;
  • atlas;
  • taffeta;
  • tapestry;
  • silk.

The curtains are best done double - during the day, translucent curtains made of weightless taffeta will not interfere with the penetration of sunlight into the bedroom, and in the evening they will hide the bedroom blackout curtains from velvet or brocade, so as not to feel like in an aquarium. The color scheme is used depending on the tone of the walls. The most successful option is considered if the curtains are several positions lighter or darker than the color of the wall decoration. Textiles must be in harmony and overlap with other shades that exist in the room. An interesting solution will be the production of several textile elements from the same material.

It is worth paying attention to patterns on textiles. There are dozens of different patterns used in the classic English style. The main theme is vegetation, all sorts of leaves / flowers / twigs will be appropriate. A small drawing will be unpleasant to ripple in the eyes, and a large one will simply be lost against the background of luxurious furniture, therefore, preference should be given to medium-sized patterns. Cucumbers, stripes and cells are also relevant. It is possible to bring something from travel to the English style. At one time, elements of the Arabian, Egyptian and Indian styles appeared in this style. Therefore, the use of braided elements, patchwork and lace is permissible.

A full-fledged canopy over the bed is practically not installed, but if desired, it can be installed in one of two options. The canopy is made either from a light fabric such as chintz or from a dense material, for example, satin. Covers for upholstered furniture, original bedspreads and pillowcases for decorative pillows... It is worth giving up only long tablecloths - they hide the texture of the tree, which should be in plain sight.

Finally

The room, decorated in British style, hints to the owners of a certain way of life - somewhat measured, unhurried, but at the same time rather restrained. I just want to imagine myself as Sherlock Holmes and light a pipe, sitting in a rocking chair by the fireplace with a plaid blanket on my knees. When choosing a style, it is worth remembering that the English interior is not for cramped Khrushchev houses. He needs high ceilings and a lot of free space.
