You can fix the galvanized sheet with self-tapping screws on the roof. Fastening the corrugated board during the installation of roofing and the device of the main units

The durability of coatings depends not only on the quality of the material used, but also on the method of its installation. If you choose the right fasteners to install the profiled sheet, with which it is then correctly fixed to the crate, then the resulting structure will be durable.

1 Types of fasteners for mounting corrugated board to metal purlins

Currently, a wide variety of hardware is used as a fastener for a profiled sheet, each of which has an individual installation method and has a certain strength. In addition to different material manufacture they are primarily distinguished by their designs, which is the main factor when choosing a specific fastener for use for one purpose or another. Today the hardware industry produces such types of fasteners for the profiled sheet as all kinds of rivets, roofing nails, screws, dowels and screws. Moreover, in order to perform the fastening correctly, you should use only fasteners specially designed for this. The use of a different type of fasteners can lead to poor-quality installation of the profiled sheet, which will greatly reduce the service life of the roof or fence.

When fastening the profiled sheet to metal girders, self-tapping screws and rivets are used. The most common fastener is a self-tapping screw (also when fastened to a wooden crate). It is convenient in that, unlike a rivet, it does not require pre-drilling a hole to install it. This is possible due to the design of the self-tapping screw - the tip of its working screw part is sharpened and acts as a drill. To install the rivet, you must first drill a hole, and before that, pre-roll the profiled sheet (for the accuracy of drilling the hole), which leads to its deformation and damage to the protective coating on it. The self-tapping screw is also good in that its installation, unlike a rivet, can be carried out without a special tool, it is simpler and practically does not require special skills. In addition, in the case of dismantling, it is very easy to unscrew the self-tapping screw and the hardware may still be suitable for further use, but riveting the rivet is associated with certain difficulties and invariably leads to damage to the profiled sheet and destruction of the hardware.

The above mentioned features of the use of rivets led to a narrower than for self-tapping screws, the scope of fastening corrugated board by riveting. This method is relevant only if, for some reason, other methods cannot be applied. For example, rivets are indispensable when fastening a profiled sheet to a metal frame or purlins made of pipes, corners or in the form of hollow welded structures. In this case, only riveting provides the highest quality and fastest installation of the profiled sheet. This led to the widespread use of rivets in the construction of fences, where various metal profiles are used as racks.

2 How to properly secure a professional sheet

When installing with self-tapping screws, roofing with a rubber gasket should be used. The fastening of the corrugated board to the girders is performed in the lower wave. This allows it to fit tightly, and in the case of wall or roof cladding, it also reduces the likelihood of leakage at the installation site of the fastener to a minimum. It is imperative to lay the profiled sheets with an overlap of 1-2 waves in a row, and on the walls and roof also 10-20 cm between the rows. In the place of the overlap, the corrugated board is interconnected. If this occurs along the upper wave, it is usually riveted.

Can be performed both horizontally and vertically. In the lower and upper parts of the roof (wall), the sheets are attached to the lathing in each lower wave, and for the rest it is allowed - after 1 or 2 waves. The number of fasteners for the profiled sheet in the latter case is approximately 6-8 pieces per 1 m 2. When fastened in the lower and upper parts, the number of hardware is determined by the length of the wall or the edge of the roof and the frequency of the corrugated sheet wave.

The profiler needs to be mounted about 10 cm from the ground. The frequency of fastening for the fence should be no more than two waves. The amount of fasteners depends on the height of the fence.

After installing the corrugated board, it is necessary to remove the chips formed during drilling or installing self-tapping screws. Otherwise, the corrosion of metal shavings can provoke the destruction of the protective layer of the sheets.

3 Technology of fastening the profiled sheet with self-tapping screws

To screw in self-tapping screws, you cannot use drills without a torque and rotation speed regulator. When attaching the profiled sheet to metal girders, the rotation speed of the screwdriver chuck should not be higher than 1500 rpm. Self-tapping screws should be installed before screwing in and then screwed in perpendicular to the surface of the profiled sheet.

The use of self-tapping screws without preliminary drilling of holes is possible only for metal purlins with a profile thickness of up to 2 mm.

When a fence is being built, self-tapping screws are used for a profiled sheet of a larger diameter, since they have to work under conditions of increased wind load, and mainly at break. In the case of installing corrugated board on the roof, the self-tapping screw mainly works in shear, therefore it is permissible to do with products of a smaller diameter.

4 Fastening profiled sheets with rivets

The profiled sheet is attached to the crate or to another profiled sheet with rivets using a construction special hand-held gun (rivet) after preliminary drilling of the holes. More recently, the process of joining parts by riveting was quite complicated, since it required a simultaneous huge impact force from both ends of the fastener (from the side of each of the products to be joined). Modern rivets and riveting tools provide strong and reliable fastening by performing the installation operation on only one side, at the joint. The creasing of the fasteners of the profiled sheet and the formation of its head is carried out when the rivet is pulled into the pistol. With this method of fastening, there is no need to drill through a hollow metal profile (pipes, square, etc.) - it is enough to drill only one of its walls (from the installation side).

It is very important to choose the right rivets. In this case, first of all, the weight (thickness) of the corrugated board should be taken into account, because the selection of the diameter of the hardware and the material from which the fasteners should be made depends on this characteristic. The larger the diameter of the rivet, the more durable and reliable fastening can be done with its help. These fasteners are made of galvanized steel and aluminum. The rivets produced by the collar type are divided into types:

  • with wide - provide the formation of the most durable and reliable connection;
  • with a secret - used in cases where it is necessary to obtain a smooth and aesthetic surface at the attachment point;
  • with standard - are universal fasteners that can be used in any situation.

In order to correctly fasten the profiled sheets, it is also necessary to choose rivets in length. Before flaring, after installation in the prepared hole, the end of their rod should protrude about 10 mm above the attachment point. A shorter length will not allow you to create a sufficiently strong and reliable flow element (cap), and a large one will lead to the flaring of the end above the surface of the material to be joined (there will be no rigid fixation of the profiled sheet to the crate). Therefore, in order to choose the right rivet in length, it is necessary to take into account the total thickness of the materials to be fastened.

When choosing rivets, they also pay attention to their color so that it matches the tone of the profiled sheet. This allows you to achieve invisibility of the joint and thereby significantly increase aesthetics. appearance roofs, fences or other structures.

What do you need to know to fasten the corrugated board?

Thanks to such a material as corrugated board, in a fairly short time, you can create a rather attractive and fairly reliable fence, roofing or facade structure.

That is why you should find out in more detail about which fasteners to choose for corrugated boarding, how the fasteners are calculated and what are the nuances that should be taken into account.

Speaking about the correct fastening of the corrugated board, it is necessary to place special emphasis on the simplicity of this fastening and the minimum set of tools that will be required. The material itself is quite economical. It will take only a minimum of costs in order to cover even large-scale areas.

Methods for fixing this material and fastening elements for corrugated board are selected based on the type of workflow:

  • fence finishing;
  • installation of the roof.

It is useful to know that roofing sheeting is able to withstand the heaviest loads, because a special reinforced form is used in its manufacture. In this regard, reliable protection of the entire space under the roof and, accordingly, any room inside the structure is provided.

All this has a positive effect on the popularity of profiled sheets that are used for roofing. There are other factors that contribute to a large increase in the popularity of this building material:

  • extraordinary convenience and simplicity of the workflow;
  • high strength indicators;
  • ease of handling materials for construction;
  • light weight of the material.

Due to the fact that this material is lightweight, there is no need to strengthen supporting structure before attaching the corrugated board to the roof. This contributes to a significant reduction in the cost of roofing.

Even a person who absolutely does not have any construction skills or special experience in matters related to construction can, if desired, perform the fastening of corrugated board. In addition, this material is quite easy to cut and screw onto most of the existing bases. Even severe frosts cannot interfere with the installation, which can be considered as an additional advantage.

Items you need:

  • several types of self-tapping screws;
  • corrugated board;
  • clamps;
  • welding machine;
  • screwdriver;
  • sealant;
  • jigsaw or scissors for metal.

Methods for securing profiled sheets

First of all, you should know that the correct screwing in of the existing self-tapping screw is quite important. Special self-tapping screws can be used as fasteners for corrugated board of all types (from wall to roofing). If you want to fix the corrugated board more aesthetically, you need to use special screws for metal tiles.

During the manufacture, a special polymer coating will be applied to the heads of such self-tapping screws, whose color will need to be matched to the color of the corrugated board that is used.

Thus, the screws will be able to merge with the general background. Due to the rubber gasket, which is located under the head of the screws, moisture will not penetrate directly under the profiled sheets directly at the attachment points themselves. Self-tapping screws must be screwed strictly perpendicular to the sheet surface in such a way that no distortions are allowed.

It is important to note that the most the right way screwing in a self-tapping screw is screwing it into a wave that will adhere to the girder or will not adjoin closely to the crate.

Profile sheets are attached to the logs made of wood using the most ordinary self-tapping screws, and in the case of attachment to metal logs, it is necessary to use special self-tapping screws, the design of which includes a drill. In some cases, rivets are chosen as fastening profiled sheets to the facade, roof or fence.

The transverse logs have the same appearance as the profile square tube, to which the corrugated board will be attached. Such logs are attached to the fence itself using clamps or by electric welding.

When such transverse logs are used in the construction process, this somewhat facilitates main task, which is associated with the fastening of the corrugated board.

When a fairly short time is allocated for fixing the corrugated board, welding can be used to fasten the profile sheets. However, during welding, it is necessary to carefully enough to ensure that the protective coating of this material is not too disturbed due to the action of high temperatures, and after completion of the work that is associated with welding, it is imperative to do anti-corrosion treatment of the profile coating.

How to calculate the required number of self-tapping screws in order to fasten the profiled sheet?

The number of fasteners for corrugated board can be calculated in a variety of ways, based on a variety of factors.

It is possible to divide the total area that will need to be covered by the total area of one profiled sheet (in this case, it is imperative to take into account the overlap), and then round off the result that will be obtained to a whole figure.

It is possible to simply divide the total perimeter of the projected area by the width of one profile sheet. If this is a fence that joins, for the calculation it is necessary to take the installation width with the obligatory consideration of the overlap. General indicators the costs of profiled sheets may differ slightly (by about 10%). For wall and roof areas, on which the profiled flooring will be fixed, 8 self-tapping screws are traditionally taken per 1 sq. m. However, the number of self-tapping screws near the ends, slopes and ridge is recommended to be doubled in order to be able to provide high reliability and resistance to existing wind loads.

In this case, the step of fixing the corrugated board is 50 cm.

The number of screws required to complete the construction of the fence will depend on the height of the fence being made. In this case, the amount can be selected exclusively empirically.

How to properly fix the corrugated board on the roof?

It is necessary to know the main steps that must be consistently performed in order to properly fix the corrugated board on the roof of an existing house.

First of all, the profile sheets are laid out in the required order so that the amount of overlapping of the profiled sheets depends on the angle of the roof slope that exists (the greater the slope indicators, the less overlap is necessary). The largest overlap is approximately 20 cm and can be selected for a roof slope that does not exceed 15 °. However, when the slope exceeds 30 °, the overlap will automatically decrease to 15 cm.

If the roof slope is critically small (less than 10 °), additional sealing of the sheet floors must be performed.

Further, the installation of the lathing takes place. The size of this element should be selected based on the roof slope angle and the wave height of the corrugated board (the larger the wave height and the roof slope angle, the more the pitch should be chosen for the lathing). In addition, these indicators will affect the number of waves that the overlap includes. When the roof has small wave heights or a small slope, the overlap must necessarily include at least 2 waves.

When laying each subsequent row, an overlap of 20 cm must be observed.

Some nuances should be taken into account:

  • self-tapping screws should be screwed only in the profile depression of the profiled sheet;
  • ridge screws differ from roofing screws in length;
  • when manual tightening of self-tapping screws is carried out, the force that is applied should be correctly calculated so as not to damage the insulation layer and prevent looseness.

Construction country house- a noble business, but very costly. That is why developers, striving to reduce costs as much as possible, decide on self-styling roofing material on the roof. The indisputable advantage of such a material as a profiled sheet is its low weight and ease of installation, due to which fastening the corrugated board on the roof does not require any special skills from the developer, and its installation will not cause any difficulties.

Overview characteristics of the profiled sheet

One of the most versatile building materials is a corrugated board. It can be used for both roofing and wall, floor and even temporary and permanent fencing. The indisputable advantages of this material are high reliability, strength, environmental friendliness and durability. It does not need regular painting and does not fade in the sun.

Profiled sheets are made of galvanized steel with a possible polymer coating and look like slate. They are available in various sizes and in a variety of indicators of anti-corrosion resistance, rigidity and strength.

Decking is of the following brands:

  • C - used for the construction of light coatings, has a corrugation height from 8 to 44 mm;
  • NS - most often used in roofing, wave height from 35 to 44 mm;
  • H - has reinforced rigid ribs and is suitable for permanent roofs, the height of the corrugation is from 57 to 114 mm.
To cover the roof, it is recommended to use profile sheets with a wave height of 20-60 mm and the presence of a special moisture-wicking groove. Their thickness depends on engineering calculations, taking into account all types of possible loads: operational, wind, snow.

When purchasing corrugated board, it is necessary to check in advance the presence of instructions for laying this roofing material and, if it was not available, you should contact the seller.

Every home owner wants his roof to serve as long as possible and to please the eye for more than a dozen years. That is why in order to choose the right profile metal, one must first of all take into account the climatic features of the region. For areas with increased snow cover in winter period you should choose a profiled sheet with a corrugation height of at least 20 mm, while the roof slope angle should be at least 15 °. In private construction, professional flooring of the HC35 and HC 44 brands is most often used.

Basic rules for laying corrugated board

Installation of profiled material, like any other roofing, is carried out with overlapping sheets, the value of which depends on the slope (angle of inclination) of the slope.

When laying corrugated board on the roof, you need to be guided by the following rules:

  1. With a roof slope of less than 14 °, a horizontal overlap of sheets of about 20 cm is made.
  2. The optimal overlap of the material with a roof slope of 15 to 30 ° will be 15-20 cm.
  3. An acceptable overlap with a roof steepness of more than 30 ° will be 10-15 cm.

Table. Dependence of the overlap of the corrugated board on the angle of the roof slope

In the case when the angle of inclination of the slopes does not exceed 12 °, the sheets overlap by at least 25 cm, while all longitudinal and transverse joints are additionally "tied" with silicone or thiokol sealant.

Regardless of the complexity and steepness of the slope, the sheets must be laid parallel to the cornice, previously aligned along a strictly horizontal line, with an overhang behind the cornice. Adjacent sheets will be correctly fastened with one self-tapping screw, while maximally excluding the danger of breaking the decorative and protective coating.

Before fixing the corrugated board to the roof, you need to measure the value eaves, which depends on the height of the profile:

  • for a profiled sheet, the wave depth of which is 8, 10 and 20 mm, the overhang length will be in the range from 50 to 100 mm;
  • in all other cases, the eaves overhang will exceed 200 mm.

The fixing of the corrugated board to the roof is carried out with self-tapping screws (self-tapping screws) 19-250 mm long and 4.8, 5.5 and 6.3 mm in diameter. Self-tapping screws of foreign companies EKT, Hilli, Fisher, SFS are equipped with boring barbs, so they can be screwed in without pre-drilling holes. High quality self-tapping roofing screws have EPDM gaskets to prevent moisture penetration through the holes.

When choosing self-tapping screws, you need to pay attention to the length of the cylindrical threaded part - it must be at least 5 mm longer than the bundle of sheets to be connected. The approximate consumption of fastening material is 6-8 pieces per 1 m 2 of the coating.

It is also necessary to remember that fastening of sheets to the crate is carried out on rubber sealing washers, and self-tapping screws with a size of at least 28 × 4.8 mm must be screwed into the lower "waves". The ridge should be fastened through the upper "waves" on self-tapping screws of the required length.

Corrugated roof insulation device

During the operation of the building, condensation forms under the roof. To avoid the accumulation of moisture, you need to build the roof in such a way that the temperature outside and in the under-roof space coincides. To do this, it is necessary to properly equip special structural elements.:

  • thermal insulation;
  • ventilation;
  • vapor barrier.

To extend the life of the roof, before installing the profiled sheets, a gasket should be made to prevent the accumulation of condensation. It is best to use a vapor-waterproofing membrane, and you need to start from the eaves towards the ridge. The membrane is fastened with nails with a large head with a step of 20 cm.

The waterproofing film is laid with an overlap of 10-15 cm and a mandatory sag between the rafters of 2-3 cm. After joining, the overlap joints are glued with adhesive tape.

A 40-50 mm thick counter-rail is nailed on top of the rafter legs, which protects the membrane from damage during the fastening of the sheets. To ensure the flow of air between the gasket and the first board, a gap of 5 cm is left, after which the edge of the gasket is tucked up and fixed on the inside of the end board. If necessary, the interlining fabric can be easily cut with a conventional knife.

Free movement of air flows in the under-roof space is achieved by means of a device ventilation holes, which should be placed as close to the skate as possible. Correct air outlet is carried out using the following elements:

  • ventilation ducts;
  • special gaps between the roofing plate and the ridge;
  • ventilation grilles located at the ends of the building.
When installing ventilation gaps, wooden slats are attached to the waterproofing membrane, which help to remove excess condensate and moisture. At the same time, each node requires a reliable fixation.

Direct fastening of the corrugated board to the roof

When mounting the profile, you need to observe a certain subtlety: the sheet should lie so that there is a depression along its edge, and not a top. Moreover, the capillary groove located on the edge side of the corrugated board should also be face up. On the roof roofing material pulled along the logs with a long rope.

If you turn a long ladder upside down and put it against the wall, you get an excellent "transport path" for the profiled sheets, which will move along it, like on rails.

The corrugated board is laid with belts across the slope, and the first belt is placed with an allowance for the visor of 10-15 cm. The material must be fastened with roofing screws with a hexagonal head, in which a sealing rubber gasket is already provided. They must be screwed in strictly perpendicular to the coating, excluding possible distortions. In order for the screws not to stand out on the canvas, their color must match the color of the corrugated board. Fastening of products is made at the edges of the sheet, in the middle and at the joints, it turns out that at least 6 self-tapping screws should go to one sheet.

The next belts of the profiled sheet are laid with an overlap of 10 cm on the previous ones, also along the slope. The installation of the sheets continues until the ridge of the roof, after which the laying is stopped and starts from another slope again from below.

Easy movement on the roof will be provided by a small ladder equal to the length of the roof. It is very simple to make it, just fill the steps on the board, and then fix it to the corner of the skate.

The roofing ridge is covered with an ordinary galvanized strip 40-50 cm wide or with a special profiled sheet, which is also fixed with self-tapping screws. After the installation is completed, chips and debris are removed from the roof surface, the places of scratches and cuts are tinted to avoid edge corrosion. After three months, it is recommended to broach the self-tapping screws, since the fastening on the tree can weaken over time.

And, finally, some taboos on working with corrugated board, which certainly will not be superfluous:

  • Fastening profiled sheets with nails is not allowed, since there is a high probability of their separation under the influence of the wind.
  • Welding and gas cutting of profiled sheets is also not allowed.
  • It is strictly forbidden to cut the corrugated board with a "grinder", otherwise the high temperature will burn out the polymer coating along with zinc, which will lead to rapid corrosion and rusty smudges. The metal shears can only be used for slitting the sheet. They will not be able to make a correct cross section with their help, since they will crush the corrugated wave. It is quite difficult to straighten a deformed sheet, but even the most careful straightening cannot guarantee the coincidence of the profiles when laying.

If the sheets of corrugated board still do not correspond to the size of the roof, or it is necessary to make cutouts for the chimney, then you can use cutting shears or a jigsaw. Also, a circular saw with large victorious teeth is used to cut the material.

It is difficult to overestimate. Today, this fastener is a well-thought-out element that is adapted to all the nuances of this kind of work. This type of hardware must be correctly selected. This is the only way you will be able to achieve a positive result. The material for the manufacture of self-tapping screws is C1022 carbon steel. Fasteners are manufactured according to state standards. According to them, the surface of the self-tapping screw must have a zinc coating in order for the product to have anti-corrosion properties.

Reliability of fasteners

It should be borne in mind that the fastening of the corrugated board at the joints can undergo high loads. This should include snow, wind and operational impacts. That is why each batch of self-tapping screws is tensile tested. Optimal value is considered to be 102 kg / cm. But on sale you can find self-tapping screws in which this parameter varies in higher limits: from 150 to 170 kg / cm.

The choice of self-tapping screws for corrugated board

If you plan to use self-tapping screws on the roof, then it is important to choose the right elements. They can be designed to be mounted on a wooden or metal frame. In the first case, the fastener should be selected taking into account the rare.It will guarantee ease of use and the strength of the fastener. This belief is true even when working with the hardest types of wood.

If the profiled sheet will be installed on a metal structure, which is exposed to increased during operation, then self-tapping screws should be chosen that have a special sharpening and a drilling tip. These products should be based on high quality steel. When arranging the roof, it is necessary to install additional and ridge elements. In this case, you should purchase a longer self-tapping screw.

Why else is it worth choosing a self-tapping screw

All three varieties have a special drill bit. Thanks to him, it is not necessary to make holes in the roofing material in advance. But the heads in the form of hexagons will allow you to fix the element in the chuck of a screwdriver or drill. This simplifies the workflow and reduces the waste of time, positively affecting the quality of the installation.

Determination of the number of screws per sheet of corrugated board

If you are going to fasten the corrugated board with self-tapping screws on the roof, then you need to start work from the side of the eaves. The first sheet fits into the bottom row. And the second is mounted with an overlap in one wave. After aligning the canvases along the edge of the cornice, the profile is fixed to the bottom beam of the sheathing in each wave. In the place of the overlap, the canvases should be connected. This is done with rivets. After installing the first two bottom sheets with an overlap, the width of which is 200 mm, you can proceed to the installation of the left one in the second row. But that is not all.

In the place of the overlap, the sheets should be fixed to the crate in each wave. In the interval, the canvases are fixed in a checkerboard pattern. It is necessary to install the fasteners after two waves. For reliable fixation, the distance between the self-tapping screws should not exceed 500 mm. The above technology determines how many parts are needed per sheet. Based on this, the calculation should be performed. If you use a sheet with a length of 8 m, the width of which is 1.1 m, and the distance between the fasteners will be 500 mm, then you need to spend 10 self-tapping screws for the profile in the lower and upper parts. Eight pieces are needed to fix the middle part of the sheet. From this we can conclude that the consumption of fasteners for the profiled sheet will be 18 pieces. This figure will need to be multiplied by the number of sheets on the roof. This will allow you to get the number of self-tapping screws that will be needed to fasten the sheets. Everything, as you can see, is simple.

When the corrugated board is fastened with self-tapping screws on the roof, the number of elements may vary. This will depend on the width and length of the sheet. If we are talking about impressive slopes, the distance between the location of the screws must be reduced. This will increase the consumption by 1 m 2. When fixing the material, it is recommended to pay the greatest attention to the joints of the coating. It is in these locations that leaks are likely. At the ends, in those places where the pediment overhangs are located, the sheet should be strengthened to each lathing bar. This will also increase the number of screws. Therefore, after the calculations, it is necessary to purchase fasteners 10% more, since there is a possibility of marriage and unforeseen expenses, as well as breakdown of parts and their loss.

Correct fastening technology

Fastening the corrugated board with self-tapping screws on the roof should be carried out according to a certain method. It provides for the use of colored or galvanized elements with polypropylene washers. The diameter can vary from 0.48 to 0.63 cm. While the length usually varies from 1.9 to 25 cm. It is important to consider when buying a self-tapping screw that the threaded part should be 3 mm longer than the width of the materials to be joined.

The average consumption per square meter of coating is usually about 7 pieces. For reliable fastening of the profiled sheet on a straight section, an average of 8 parts will be needed, while closer to the ends, the number should be increased so that the structure can withstand wind loads. It is necessary to screw in the self-tapping screws strictly perpendicularly. In this case, distortions are completely unacceptable. Experts recommend screwing the fasteners into the waves that adjoin the sheathing or purlins. When the corrugated board is fastened with self-tapping screws on the roof, it is recommended to consider the photo in advance. This will allow you to understand that at the first stage, the material is laid out in a strict position and order. It is important to provide an overlap, which should be greater with a smaller inclined angle.

Important nuances

If you will be fixing the corrugated board on the roof, the distance between the screws must be taken into account. It was discussed above. But the technology also provides for compliance with many other rules. Among them, the need to control the force when manually tightening the fasteners should be highlighted. Otherwise, the coating may be damaged. If you do not tighten the screw, then the roof will not perform its functions. When laying sheets of corrugated board, it is necessary to gradually move upward. In this case, the canvases of the first row should hang 5 cm above the edge of the roof. This will protect the walls of the building from rain and melt water.

Quite often, home craftsmen independently fasten the corrugated board with self-tapping screws on the roof. The instruction will help even those who have been doing similar work for some time. From it you can find out that the installation of the sheet is carried out with fasteners with rubber gaskets. They provide watertightness and absolute tightness. Steel rivets are also used for joints. But it is recommended to refuse aluminum. After all, they are not able to ensure the strength of the installation at the proper level.

In order to fasten the sheets together, it is not recommended to use welding. After all, when high temperatures polymer and zinc protective coatings will fade. The sheet itself then remains unprotected against corrosion. Mounting with 21 self-tapping screws on the roof is the best solution. It is strongly discouraged to use nails.

Restrictions

If you have to work with which more, then the overlap strip should be wider. This is worth considering. If we are talking about a roof, the angle of inclination of which exceeds 10 degrees, then one wave overlap will be enough. There is another option. If the angle of inclination is even greater, then it is necessary to make an overlap, the width of which is two or three waves. It is necessary to start moving during installation from the end parts, and not from the middle. It is important not only the step of fastening the corrugated board with self-tapping screws on the roof, which was discussed above, but also the correct location of the sheets. They should go along the roof. Even a slight tilt is discouraged. To control the location of the elements on the surface, you can pull the thread, adhering to the laying line in the first row of the corrugated board.

Conclusion

It is considered the most optimal method of fixing the corrugated board described above. Gable roof, the number of screws for which you can calculate using the technique used in the article will look attractive if you do everything according to the rules. The use of this type of fastener cannot be called accidental. This mechanism allows you to guarantee the maximum reliability of the connection of the material with the crate. Among other things, the self-tapping screws have special gaskets that prevent moisture from getting inside. They also make the connection softer. Correct fastening corrugated board on the roof with self-tapping screws eliminates damage to the sheet.

Reflections on the topic of how to fix corrugated board on the roof are relevant not only with a complete replacement of the roof. This material allows partial renovation of the roof of the house, it is distinguished by good maintainability and long-term quality.

Decking for the roof of my house - material characteristics

Suburban, suburban and other individual construction can not be attributed to cheap pleasures. The use of modern profiled sheets allows you to significantly save on the critical repair stage - on the performance of roofing work. This savings concerns both the cost of the material itself and the possibility of its self-assembly... Compared to metal shingles, profiled sheets are 2-3 times cheaper, and natural shingles will cost even more. except financial merit, factory-made sheet metal roofing materials have other advantages:

  • Low unit weight useful area, the minimum among the existing materials. This quality allows the use of load-bearing rafters of a smaller section than in the case of a massive roof - that is, the savings will apply to the entire roof;
  • Long lasting corrosion resistance. A typical profiled sheet is a sandwich construction where steel is only the basis for overall strength. Polymer and zinc coatings are applied to steel, varnishes and spraying resistant to mechanical and chemical effects;
  • Large selection of color options. The final layer of polymer can generally be made in any color - the catalogs of the leading manufacturers of profiled sheets have a full-scale iridescent look. Please note that corrugated board of dark colors (brown, bog oak, etc.) tends to fade quickly in the sun. Better to opt for standard shades of red, brick, blue or silver. Then you don't have to think about how to properly attach the corrugated board to the roof, every few years, due to the loss of the original richness of color;
  • Simplicity and lightness installation works due to the low weight of the sheets and the ability to "smooth out" the unevenness of the roof frame. Other materials for roofs imply a greater geometric rigor of the rafters being erected, floors between floors and other supporting structures.

The profiled sheet also has characteristic drawbacks precisely as a roofing material. First, there is the danger of damage to the zinc-polymer layers during unloading, transportation or installation. Even a slight chipping of the protective coating will lead to rapid corrosion of the steel base under the influence of atmospheric precipitation or simply from dampness. The damaged element will have to be changed - and for this you will need to disassemble almost the entire roof, the installation of the corrugated board is carried out with a reliable overlap of the sheets on top of each other.

Secondly, the so-called "drum effect" is a compensation for the cheapness of the profiled sheet. In heavy rain, the sound from drops falling on the roof is amplified by the vibration of the sheets and can resonate with their vibrations. As a result, the people on the upper floors feel as if they were placed inside a huge drum during the festival procession - and the muscular drummers spare no effort to demonstrate their percussion skills ...

The “drum effect” is compensated by roof insulation and the creation of an acoustic barrier made of porous materials between the rafters and the roof. But the sound comfort of natural tiles for any sheet of profiled metal remains unattainable - perhaps to a greater extent than an exotic carnival in tropical latitudes for a state employee.

The site masters have prepared a special calculator for you. You can easily calculate the required amount of roofing.

Applications of the profiled sheet ...

… Are not limited to roofing works. Metal corrugated board can be used for the following renovation endeavors:

  • Cladding of ventilated facades as a replacement for expensive siding on the back sides of walls, for ancillary buildings, etc.;
  • Arrangement of solid fences from corrugated board as budget method fight against malicious pretensions and curious looks;
  • Creation of walls in lightly loaded structures (greenhouses, booths, poultry houses, etc.).

Before learning how to fix the corrugated board on the roof, you can put on a repair "experiment in miniature", independently finishing with corrugated board visor over the door... All basic installation techniques must be used for such a small structure, their development will significantly help with full-scale roofing works.

How to fix corrugated board on the roof - step by step installation instructions

A reliable and durable metallized roof in its arrangement must go through several repair stages:

How to fix corrugated board on the roof - step by step diagram

Step 1: rafter frame

The rafters for the profiled sheet must have a certain degree of inclination, not less than 8 °. In practice, this angle corresponds to a rise of 1 meter with a linear length of the roof of 7 meters.

The greater the slope of the roof, the less requirements for sealing the joints between the sheets. If the roof is sloping (less than 8 °), it is wiser to call professional roofers - it is very difficult to achieve tightness on your own at a low slope angle.

If the house already has a rafter frame, all damaged and questionable boards should be replaced, and the roof insulation and soundproofing should be completed. All movements on the roof should be thought out in advance, provide for footrests, use a mounting belt, etc. - all roofs of the world are not worth a traumatic fall.

Step 2: rigging

Installing the profiled sheet on a reliable rafter system is easier than lifting the material into the working area. If the installation itself is quite within the power of one worker, then an assistant will be required for the rigging stage, and preferably two. It is most convenient to lift the corrugated board onto the rafters in packs of 5-10 sheets, and this must be done carefully. Damage to the coating will lead to the rapid development of crevice corrosion in the metal. You can fix packs of sheets using separate bars or several laths.

Step 3: Start installation

The roof of the roof with profiled sheets always starts from the bottom up, from the overhang to the ridge, from the visible end... A thin membrane is pre-attached to protect the thermal insulation layers from condensation. It is best to choose a diffusion-type membrane, it is nailed to the rafter crate with nails with wide and flat heads. The approximate gap between the nails is 20-25 cm, make sure that their heads completely enter the wood.

The first row of sheets is laid with a "overhang" above the roof overhang by 30-50 cm, the specific size depends on drainage system roof and the presence of drainage at the foundation. Even before fixing the profiled sheet on the roof, it is necessary to determine the size of the overlap. Between adjacent panels, it is performed at least one full wave. If the wave of the corrugated board is small (up to 20 mm), and the roof is flat, the overlap between the sheets must be made in two waves. Do not be afraid of overspending of material, reliability and moisture resistance are more important.

The joints between the sheet flooring must be sealed, and it is better to use a special tape rather than a hardening sealant. Then, if necessary, it will be possible to disassemble the roof and replace individual sheets. Fastening corrugated board to rafter frame perform with self-tapping screws with sealing washers, in the amount of 6-10 screws per square meter of material. First, a hole is marked on the sheet with a dowel, then it is drilled with a drill, and then a screw is screwed in.

Step 4: continue installation

Adjacent rows of profiled sheets in height are displaced, on average, by half their end size. They cut sheets with a sharp hacksaw for metal, and on the ground - it is unsafe to cut on loose rafters. The overlap between the rows is limited by the slope of the roof. On sloping roof the overlap is larger (up to 30 cm), on a steep slope (more than 20 °) 10 cm is enough. Careful sealing of horizontal joints with the same tape is mandatory. The screws for such joints are screwed into each depression of the deflection, that is, "through the wave". If the rubber washer protrudes from under the screw head by 1-2 mm evenly over the entire diameter, it means that it is tightened well, not weakly and without "constriction".

Step 5: finish the installation

Upon reaching the ridge of the roof, a crucial stage begins - water and other atmospheric precipitation tend to pour from above. Having laid the last sheets, a wide end plate is mounted on top of them. It is fixed in increments of no more than 30 cm, maintaining an overlap between the strips themselves of 10 cm for water drainage. Before installation, each end plate is carefully inspected for the integrity of the coating - a leak from the roof ridge is diagnosed with great difficulty and can appear at a great distance from the defective element. The last to be installed are cornice and ridge slats for design new roof.
