Rules for the design and choice of design for a narrow bedroom. Narrow room design Narrow bedroom zoning

A small bedroom is a common occurrence not only in Khrushchev, but also in new economy class buildings. An unsuccessful option if the room is elongated relative to one side. The design of a narrow bedroom is not an easy task, because a must-have element is a bed, which should look organic there. You also need to fit other furniture, make the room cozy and hide the oblong shape as much as possible so as not to feel cramped.

Designing a narrow sleeping area requires a special approach. You need to act according to the plan:

  • Calculate your financial capabilities.
  • Accurately measure the sides of the bedroom and calculate the total area.
  • Plan out the finishes and colors.
  • Choose furniture and figure out on paper how it should be arranged.
  • Come up with lighting so that the room is neither too dark nor too light.
  • Choose the general direction of the decor.

The ideal option is to draw the layout on paper or recreate it in a special program on a computer. At this stage, the peculiarities of the bedroom should be taken into account.

The balcony can be used as a greenhouse, study, seating area or storage room.

If the bedroom has a balcony or loggia, its owner can consider himself a darling of fate - it's a few meters useful area that can be used for good. The most common options are:

  • Tear down the separating wall and get additional squares. This design of a narrow bedroom with a balcony looks beautiful, but there are some subtleties here. We'll have to agree on the rework plan with the housing and communal services and with higher authorities (there is always a chance that they will not give permission for demolition).
  • Make an arch in the balcony wall, and insulate the balcony itself. Then here you can organize a small Personal Area, dressing room, recreation area or greenhouse - whatever.

Or you can install heating on the loggia and arrange an additional room there.

On the windowsill, you should arrange flowers, trinkets or organize a desktop.

The interior of a narrow bedroom with one window is more difficult to decorate, but still it has its own plus - a window sill. In a small room, it can be used as a storage space or a small work desk on which a computer or laptop is placed.

A bedroom in a Khrushchev after renovation can look very stylish.

A narrow bedroom in Khrushchev's houses is a frequent occurrence. There is a small storage next to the sleeping room. If you make shelves in it and beautifully arrange boxes for clothes, then you do not need to allocate an area for storing things in the bedroom. This means that the useful area will be freed up.

The layout of the sleeping room implies the right furniture. This could be:

  • Bed. You can't do without it. There are many options: from a narrow small couch or a folding armchair to a chic double bed that takes up the entire space (from wall to wall).
  • Closet. You can choose from a corner model, narrow shelves on the walls, a high shelf or a low small chest of drawers. The main thing is that it fits into the interior.
  • Armchair. Acts as a recreation and accent area. Usually located in the corner. The model should be low, narrow and soft.
  • Table. They are placed in the event that there is no more space in the house (for example, this is a room for a teenage boy, and it is imperative to fit a table at which you can do homework). Furniture is placed in the corner next to the window. Sometimes it is replaced with a window sill.

The less furniture in the bedroom, the better (easier to walk, the room seems more spacious). Therefore, you need to make deliberate decisions on the installation of bulky items. Or use the many tricks that have been invented for this particular case.

It is logical that in a small area it is worth placing furniture that takes up little space. This could be:

  • Built-in wardrobe. A classic solution, especially if the bedroom has a niche for it. It takes up a little useful space, has sliding doors, and you can put all things in it.
  • High bed. Placing a bed under the ceiling is a great solution to double the space. You can put a table, a chair and a wardrobe under it, which just fit there perfectly.

It is also advisable to choose small pieces of furniture. Instead of large closet- a narrow low bedside table, instead of a wide desktop - a window sill, instead of a chic double bed - an oblong Japanese stove bench that can be placed on the floor.

A piece of furniture that is easy to fold, unfold or turn into a completely different thing is always a success. This could be:

  • Chair-bed. For the day it is folded and left in the corner, and at night it is turned into a narrow ottoman on which you can sleep. This will allow you to free the room during the day and use it as you like: put the table and get busy with work, lay out toys for the child, do exercises, play on musical instrument or even invite guests. The main thing is to choose such a model so that it is easy to unfold, otherwise you can injure your back.
  • Sofa table. This design, when folded, is a sofa. But as soon as you pull the inconspicuous lever, the furniture unfolds and turns into a low ottoman, equipped with a table top.
  • Bed-wardrobe. It looks like an ordinary wardrobe. However, it transforms into a sleeping place. Usually such a model looks beautiful in both versions.
  • Folding table. When folded it is adjacent to the wall, when unfolded it is lowered.

Transformers are usually more expensive than simple furniture, but with just one such piece of furniture, you can furnish an entire bedroom if it is very tiny.

An excellent design move is the clever use of corner space. There are no triangular beds, but there are:

  • Corner wardrobes. They have semicircular shelves, sliding doors and a complete set necessary elements(from shelves to small lattice drawers). They look good, they can reach the ceiling and are great space savers.
  • Corner shelves. The same wardrobes, but without doors. They are good at saving space, but things are in plain sight, and they can become covered with dust.
  • Corner tables. Not a bad solution for one person. A small triangular table will not fit several people, but it will be quite comfortable for one to eat or work, especially if you install the lamp on the wall.

It is interesting that you can take up space not from floor to ceiling, but from the ceiling to some mark. Consequently, corner storage systems are placed even in a bedroom where the bed occupies almost the entire area.

Design of a narrow bedroom in Khrushchev 12 sq. m requires a non-standard approach.
If there is a window in one narrow wall and a door in the other, then the furniture should be arranged as follows:

  • The bed is along. In this version, the berth is placed along the long walls in such a way that at least on one side there is a passage of at least 70 cm. They put bedside tables at the head or hang shelves on which you can arrange and unfold things. If there is still a little space, a cabinet is placed at the foot (although, if possible, you should do without it).
  • Bed across. In this case, the furniture for sleeping is moved to the far narrow wall, shelves are hung on one of the free partitions or a corner cabinet is placed.

If there is a window in one narrow wall, and the door is located in a long partition, the bed is placed opposite the window openings.
Basic rules for placing things:

  • do not hang anything above the bed;
  • near the berth there must be a passage on at least one side (and not less than 70 cm);
  • the room always has a logical center - a large piece of furniture around which the rest are distributed;
  • if possible, then the table is placed near the window;
  • in the case when only the bed fits into the room, the storage place can be made not on the shelves, but on the boxes installed under it.

Before buying furniture, you need to make a plan on paper and make sure everything fits in size.

For a small bedroom, they usually choose light colors that make it visually larger.

The right colors and textures will perfectly complement well-spaced furniture. The basic principles are as follows:

  • Light colors are better than dark colors. They look refreshing and add spaciousness to the room.
  • Shades must match. It is impossible to choose just the first light tone that comes across, since it is necessary that the interior has pressure, contrast and at least two colors. They can complement each other (for example, you can make a pale blue main, and bright color place accents) or contrast (for example, light orange and blue). To facilitate the selection, it is advisable to use a color ring.
  • Shades should emphasize the natural boundaries of the room. Simply put, walls, floors and ceilings cannot be made in the same tone. Otherwise, the colors will merge, the room will look like a light box.

It should also be borne in mind that glossy surfaces give the room a spacious look - a mirror on the wall has about the same effect. However, the gloss should not be too much, otherwise it will look vulgar. You can make, for example, a smooth stretch ceiling, and cover the rest with matte materials.
Examples of color combinations can be as follows:

  • One tone plus accent. This combination is considered a classic. The main shade can be any (for example, pale blue, white, light yellow or peach). The accent should match it. They will highlight the details of the interior (for example, a carpet, a bedspread, curtains or a picture hanging on the wall).
  • Contrasting colors. One tone plus its opposite works the same as color and accent, but the combination looks more vibrant, tense, and energetic. It is important not to overdo it, otherwise the room will seem colorful.

In fact, any design for a narrow long bedroom should include this color confrontation, no matter how many shades there are. The only possible exception is carefully selected matching colors (no more than 5).

Lighting and lighting issues

Proper lighting will complement the interior, because without it, even a well-furnished and painted room will seem small and uncomfortable. There are several options that you can use:

  • Chandelier. Photo of the design of a narrow bedroom 5 x 2.5 meters or 3 x 4 square meters. m show that in such a small room, one chandelier on the ceiling may be enough. It should be decorated in accordance with the style, it is better to choose yellow light (it is pleasing to the eyes and does not cause irritation).
  • Sconce. 2 wall lamps are enough, they can make the necessary accent. So, the design is classic, in which the sconces are hung at the head of the bed, emphasizing the symmetry of the layout.
  • Floor lamp. It makes sense to use it only if the room has a seating area - an armchair, a shelf with books. In a different setting, the floor lamp will knock out.
  • Spot illumination. Can successfully replace a chandelier, provides accents (eg a row of lamps that look like spotlights, lighting along the edge of shelves, a small lamp in the closet). This design looks great in high-tech and loft styles.
  • Table lamp. One is not used, but may become a beautiful accessory if you choose a pretty lampshade and put the lamp on your bedside table.

The light should be abundant, but at the same time warm and diffused. Otherwise, the bedroom will look more like a surgery room than a place to relax after a hard day.

For lighting, you can use both a traditional chandelier and modern lamps.

Choosing a bedroom design

In the case when, after careful step-by-step planning, there are still questions (for example, it is not clear which colors are better to choose, or it seems that lighting with furniture could be combined better), you can always consider one or another style. For a design in a Khrushchev with a narrow room with a window at the end, the following may be suitable:

  • Minimalism. This modern style was created in order to decorate small spaces. The colors are light, in the decoration - any materials, from the decor - only the necessary textiles, furniture - necessarily functional. Minimalist décor can consist of one bed with a colored bedspread and a flowerpot on the windowsill.
  • Scandinavian style. Something close to minimalism, but with nuances. Decoration - natural materials, more wood. The colors are light with a bias towards blue. From the decor - roller blinds, a patchwork quilt, a carpet on the floor. You can add a seascape painting to the wall.
  • Loft. Enough original solution... The colors are light, the ceiling must be whitewashed, the walls must be covered with plaster and bricks, the floor must be covered with laminate or concrete screed... All furniture - with iron elements, curtains - roller blinds (or better without them at all), as lighting - spots (small lamps, similar to spotlights). Be sure to make intricate graffiti on the wall in bright colors.
  • Boho. Unusual style that came from the gypsies. Very suitable for a small bedroom. The colors are bright, but not necessarily combined (it is better to stick to a relatively restrained palette of green and brown), a lot of textiles (bedspread, carpet, curtains). A lot of accessories are needed - a dream catcher hanging from the ceiling, a soft beanbag chair, pillows on the bed, pictures in intricate frames on the walls, incense sticks in a vase. Everything here should talk about comfort. Not suitable for perfectionists.
  • Provence. French classics. The colors are light, warm. The ceilings must be whitewashed, wallpaper with flowers must be glued on the walls, laminate or parquet must be placed on the floor. Textiles are required - carpet, bedspread. Forged elements are important - an intricate iron headboard by the bed or curved legs by the chair. On the windows there are light curtains made of tulle, a bunch of flowers in a vase is welcome. You can hang landscapes of France or photos of your loved ones on the wall.
  • Japanese eco-style. Great for a small bedroom. The colors are light, natural. The ceiling needs to be whitewashed or trimmed with wood, the walls should be covered with paper-like wallpaper or painted yellow. Instead of a bed, there is a couch on a low podium, and the working area needs to be fenced off with a screen with dancing cranes. Hang a roller blind made of bamboo on the windows, lampshades on the lamps - orange, made of paper, with the obligatory hieroglyphs. Buddha figurines look good.

For inspiration, you can choose any style from the existing ones, not just the ones listed above.

The style can be anything: even a sloppy, variegated boho will look organic if properly designed.

Narrow bedroom decor

You can use many different design methods:

  • Tile. By itself, it does not fit much anywhere, but if you buy a novelty (one that changes color from touch), then you can fit it into the interior as a decoration. It is advisable to make a patterned panel or mosaic.
  • Photo wallpaper. Visually expand the space. Better to choose a landscape with oaks or birches, with waterfalls or the sea. You can purchase an interesting abstraction or geometric pattern, where square elements will be woven with other shapes.
  • Mirror. It should be large and effective, expanding the space. Ideal length to the ceiling with interesting features (like laser engraving).
  • Graffiti. A new trend in the interior. You can do it yourself, hire an artist, buy a stencil or a finished drawing. The main thing is that it fits the general style and mood, and what will be depicted on it - tightly closed rows of panel buildings, rectangular patterns, play of colors, real people, sheep with short legs, two lovers or perfect abstract harmony with the pacific in the middle - it doesn't matter.
  • Textile. A bedspread on the floor, pillows, curtains, knitted napkins - a couple of elements will be appropriate in any style.
  • Trinkets. Framed photos, ceramic and porcelain figurines, candles, toys, dishes - everything that the owner likes is appropriate that does not stand out from the general composition of the style. In boho, for example, you can fit all this and even more, but in minimalism, only fresh flowers are allowed.

The decor can include any elements.

The decor is the finishing touch that will give the design idea a finished look.
Any, even the smallest and most elongated bedroom can be stylish, beautiful and cozy. Feel free to experiment with different styles and colors.

A carriage, a pencil case, a tunnel - as soon as they do not call long narrow rooms. Unfortunately, they are frequent guests in domestic apartments. If the problem cannot be solved by redevelopment and demolition of the wall, then you will have to act more cunningly. Small, narrow and long spaces are a challenge for many experienced designers, let alone ordinary people! But do not despair - the right choice colors, the correct placement of furniture and a few win-win tricks will help organize a retracted room and even bring its shape closer to the ideal square. So, the design of a long narrow room: what can be done, and what should not be done under any circumstances?

# 1. Color scheme and finish

The main friend of all small and non-standard premises is light shades. If you don't like white, you can use light gray, beige and light shades of other colors. Dark and bright colors should only be used in small quantities.

The most powerful technique- paint long walls in light colors, thereby pushing them apart, and highlight short walls with a more saturated color, bringing them closer to each other. Two shades can be both in the general tone and contrasting. It is desirable to make the ceiling as light as the floor.

So that the interior does not seem boring, you can use bright color accents: paintings, vases, textiles, small pieces of furniture of prominent colors will attract attention and distract the visitor from the true geometry of the room. At least that's what the designers say, supporting this fact with psychology.

The elements floor covering it is better to lay it parallel to short walls or even diagonally. Thus, the space of the room can be visually made a little wider.

One of the long walls can be trimmed with a perspective... Urban and natural landscapes will do. This solution can be recognized as ingenious and universal, since due to the perspective, the room expands significantly, and due to other techniques, it is possible to completely transform the trailer into a harmonious room of the correct shape.

They cope well with room correction mirrors... By placing a large mirror on a long wall, you can also achieve the effect of expanding the space. It is important not to overdo it, and not to use wallpaper and a large mirror in the same room. An interesting solution is to use mirrored inserts along the top or bottom edge of the wall, making the partitions airy and giving the illusion that the room is actually much larger than it is. In addition, mirrors perfectly reflect light, making the room more illuminated, which is very important in our case.

Some designers advise using one of the short walls in the decoration horizontal stripes, which will partially "drive" on the adjacent long wall.

No. 2. Correct zoning

Another effective technique in the design of a long narrow room is the allocation of two functional centers in one room. The main thing is not to use bulky cabinets and solid massive partitions to divide the space.

For zoning an elongated room, you can use:

  • color contrasting to the flooring. In this case, all corners of the room will be calmly illuminated by sunlight, but at the same time the living room area, for example, will be clearly separated from the working area with a desk;
  • can be used to place a bed or workplace on it. The space under the podium can be used to organize storage. It is important to choose the optimal height of the "pedestal" so that, when entering it, you do not bang your head against the ceiling. Additional separation can be obtained through different color walls;
  • small, set across the room. Most of the area will turn into a living room of the correct square shape, and a smaller one can be used as;
  • shelving with open pass-through shelves works the same way as a sofa. The main thing is that it is airy and does not block the light;
  • mobile partitions, screens and curtains suitable when in a narrow long room it is necessary to allocate a place for sleeping and receiving guests, for example.

No. 3. Correct lighting

A well-lit room seems more spacious than a dark room of the same size. In a tram room, it is better to highlight every corner and make the most of sunlight, therefore, light compact curtains are chosen for framing the window. Perfect fit and that allow you to easily open the entire window opening, and if you wish, to protect yourself from street light. If necessary, you can complement the window with a delicate translucent tulle.

IN artificial lighting it is better to provide several levels: for general light, spotlights, floor lamps and sconces for highlighting individual areas, as well as LED strip for creating decorative lighting.

No. 4. Arrangement of furniture in a long narrow room

This is the most difficult question in the design of pencil case rooms. On the one hand, I want to fit all the required pieces of furniture to ensure a comfortable life. On the other hand, if you sideways and zigzag your way from door to window, then there is no talk of any convenience.

The most effective techniques that designers use when arranging furniture in long narrow rooms:

  • the location of the sofa against a short wall;
  • grouping furniture in one part of the room, leaving the rest more spacious;
  • instead of one large sofa, it is sometimes appropriate to use several armchairs, from which a cozy living room group is formed;
  • it is highly undesirable to place absolutely all pieces of furniture along long walls - we risk getting a semblance of a railway carriage, therefore small sofa and an armchair set at an angle to it is better than one long sofa;

  • at least some of the furniture should be perpendicular to long walls;
  • if possible, leave long walls free, it is allowed to use open shelves;

  • better placed against a short wall. So we acquire a storage place and bring the room closer to the shape of a square.

No. 5. What other tricks can you use?

There are a number of other ways to change the perception of space and give a long room a more correct shape:

No. 6. Features of different rooms

The rules described above are equally true for all long and narrow spaces, but nevertheless, when arranging different rooms (living room, bedroom, etc.), some nuances should be taken into account.

Narrow and long living room

A living room is usually allocated, because this is a gathering place for all households and guests. If only a long narrow room remains at your disposal, then it will not be easy. It will be doubly difficult if the room is small in area.

If the living room has a decent length, then it is most correct equip several zones... One will have a sofa with a TV and other attributes of the living room, the other will have a desk, or a play area for children.

If the living room is shaped like a pencil case, and at the same time, then you may have to abandon the traditional large sofa. It can be replaced with a pair of compact sofas or several armchairs. They must be placed in different planes: parallel and perpendicular to the long wall. Lightweight and multifunctional furniture will come to the rescue. Storage places are organized on open shelves and in a small console, which can also act as a TV stand.

Narrow long bedroom

In the bedroom, you can't do without a bed, so its location is thought out first. It all depends on the size of the room and the bed itself. The standard length is 1.9-2 m. The width of a single bed is about 90 cm, a lorry - up to 140 cm, a double bed - 160-170 cm.Do not forget that you must also leave room for movement near the bed - at least 50 cm with each sides, and preferably 70 cm.

As a rule, there are no problems with a single bed. If you want to put a bigger bed, you will have to carefully calculate everything. It is best to place it with a headboard against a long wall, but another option is also allowed. As a last resort, you can move the bed with one side against the wall.

If the bedroom is very long in length, then you can give part of it for creation. The remaining space on the opposite side can be used to set up a work or dressing table.

A narrow room requires a special design approach. If you ignore its geometry and simply arrange furniture in it, as in an ordinary room, the appearance of such a room will not please the eye, pretty much resembling a corridor.

A narrow room can be visually lengthened even more by arranging all the furniture along the long walls. Especially if these items are oblong and elongated.

As a result of this arrangement of furniture, the space is even more lengthened. The view of this space could be improved by swapping the sleeping area and wardrobes.

Note! In such a room, you cannot use carpets or rugs with a longitudinal pattern. It visually significantly stretches the space.

You should especially avoid striped bedspreads, flooring or carpets that have stripes along a long wall.

Long walls should not be painted in bright uniform colors, especially if the room is very small. This approach will destroy the space in the room.

For comparison, see how the calmer light tone of the walls enhances and harmonizes a similar space.

Not the best solution will be the choice for long wall wall coverings with longitudinal stripes.

Ways to solve the problem

When it comes to designing a narrow room, the main challenge is to visually balance the length of the walls. The short wall must be visually made wider, and the long one, on the contrary, must be shortened.

To do this, you can use the following techniques:

  1. Zoning.
  2. Arrangement of mirrors.
  3. Accent on a short wall.
  4. The right accents on a long wall.
  5. Wall color.
  6. Floor accents.
  7. Ceiling decoration.
  8. Correct placement of light sources.

Zoning

Such a room has the shape of an elongated rectangle. If you divide the rectangle into two parts, you get a shape that is close to a square. This technique, when used correctly, will significantly expand the space.

You can divide the two halves of the room with a wardrobe, curtain or partition.

Important! In this case, you cannot use blank partitions and high massive cabinets. This will weigh down the interior and create a lack of light in the far half of the room.

For zoning such a space, you can use not only the wall, but also part of the ceiling.

When it comes to the bedroom, you can place the bed in the center of a long wall.

In the common room, the space can be divided into a work area and an area for sleeping and resting.

A regular sofa is also suitable for this purpose, which can be supplemented with an open rack.

Zoning can be done by arranging a podium in the room. This is especially true for small rooms, as it makes them more functional.

You can divide the space using translucent sliding doors.

A room divided into two zones can be additionally beaten if you use contrasting colors for decoration.

If the area of the room allows, one of the selected zones can be additionally divided into two parts by a transverse partition.

Arrangement of mirrors

Mirrors visually enlarge and expand the space. Therefore, in such a room it will be just appropriate to use a large mirror. It can be positioned on a long wall.

Take note! Instead of a mirror, you can use a wardrobe or a mirrored wall covering, for example, wallpaper.

Accent on a short wall

In order to visually expand a short wall, you need to highlight it. This can be done in several ways:

  • interior items;
  • decorative elements;
  • patterned wall covering or curtains;
  • color.

A sofa or bed can be placed along the short wall by the window.

A desk will also look good by the window.

By the window, you can place bookcases or shelves with books.

Interior items arranged symmetrically will visually expand the space.

Highlight the window area and bright objects on the windowsill, for example, plants in decorative pots.

You can highlight this area with contrasting decorative elements, for example, lamps or plants.

You can highlight a short wall with a window using contrasting curtains.

A good solution would be to arrange curtains along the entire length of the wall. Visually, such a technique will significantly increase its length.

Wall covering or curtains with horizontal stripes will help to visually expand the wall.

A more saturated and bright color of a short wall will help to cope with the task.

Will help to visually expand a short wall and corner furniture.

The right accents on a long wall

The length of the wall in this case is a disadvantage, so visually you need to make it shorter. To do this, you can use a patterned or colored insert, as well as a wall covering with vertical stripes.

The length of the wall will visually decrease if you place several low-rise pieces of furniture along it. For example, an armchair and a fireplace.

The wall will not appear long if you paste over it with photo wallpaper. Wallpaper with some kind of panoramic view and perspective that takes the gaze deeper into the image is well suited here.

For the same purpose, you can use bright prints or panels.

Above them, you can additionally install several point light sources. A floor lamp or a tall floor lamp will also work well against a long wall.

Wall color

In such a room, it is better not to make walls of the same color. This will most likely lengthen the room visually.

For long walls, it is better to use light, discreet colors, while highlighting the short wall with color.

Another technique can be used. On the contrary, highlight one of the long walls, covering it with a dark textured coating, and make the short wall with a window and the second long one in the same color.

A strong color and compositional accent on a short wall balances the geometry of the room.

This way finds good use on the kitchen.

Most kitchen furniture can be placed by the window, decorating it with curtains that are in harmony in tone and color.

Accents on the floor

The space can be made visually wider using carpets or rugs. In this case, their shape must be taken into account. A square rug will look good in such a room.

A rectangular rug or carpet is also suitable if you place it along the length along a short wall.

Will expand the space of a rounded product.

The floor, zoned in color and shape, will well delimit and expand the space.

Ceiling decoration

The geometry of the ceiling also affects the appearance of the room. You can visually expand the space if you complicate the ceiling. For example, make it two-tier.

It will have a good effect on geometry and a multi-level ceiling with spot lighting around the perimeter.

If the ceiling height allows, you can complicate it with large chandelier in the center. But at the same time, there should be additional point light sources on the ceiling around the perimeter.

Correct placement of light sources

In such a room, a traditional light source in the center of the ceiling will look bad. It is better to zone the space by lighting using several sources.

In the room, several light sources on the ceiling will look good, as well as sconces or lamps that will give light accents in different areas of the room.

With the help of longitudinal light sources, you can change the geometry of the ceiling, which, in turn, will affect the geometry of the room itself.

There are many techniques with which you can make a beautiful and comfortable living space out of a narrow, nondescript room. But using them, it is imperative to monitor the harmony and balance of colors and shades. Otherwise, none of the proposed methods will bring the expected result.

Video - Design solutions for a narrow room

Are you the proud owner of a narrow bedroom? Then you're in luck. Our article will tell you in detail how to correctly design a narrow bedroom.

If you approach the matter competently, then a cozy and comfortable bedroom will turn out from a narrow room.

Exactly one third of the inhabitants of our country are faced with the problem of planning interior arrangement small room. This is due to the early construction of multi-storey residential buildings. The panels and Khrushchevs were erected according to the accepted project. At the same time, a narrow bedroom was an integral attribute. Modern tendencies furniture design made adjustments. Now the beds are being produced spacious, roomy - in a word, taking up a lot of space. And this inevitably affects the useful space of the room, in particular for a narrow room. To solve this problem, you need to understand the basic methods of interior design planning.

Features of arranging a narrow bedroom

The limited space of the room does not allow to fully accommodate all the elements of the interior decoration, without creating inconveniences. This factor is especially true for the bed. Due to its bulkiness, a narrow room loses its functionality.

The abundance of light shades contributes to the visual expansion of the room

Mirrors visually transform the space

To improve this phenomenon, experienced designers share some tips for planning, decorating a narrow room:

  1. To save space, it is better to choose multifunctional furniture. Sliding wardrobes, folding sofas, niches and other hidden structures will find useful use here.
  2. The color scheme should be given special attention. Different shades create different visual effects. The predominant color here should be light bright, or soft. Accentuating dark colors are also suitable, but they should be in moderation.
  3. Finishing materials will help increase the interior of a narrow bedroom. Glossy surfaces, organic glass in different elements of the room will hide the lack of living space.
  4. Choose successful interior styles. For example, "Minimalism" is ideal for a small room.
  5. The absence of a large number of decorative elements will have a beneficial effect on the "constrained" space.
  6. The use of large-sized drawings, expressed by wallpaper, decorative elements (paintings, photo collage), or other objects in the room will visually expand the space.

Contrasting combinations of wall decoration and furniture visually increase the space of the room

A striped bedspread will make the room wider

The narrow walls of the room "press" on human perception. Therefore, they need to be painted with multi-colored colors. Here they are guided by the following principle: the shorter the wall, the brighter it should be, and, conversely, if the wall is too long, then it is painted with a lighter shade.

Natural light plays a big role. Consider this factor. The layout of the room is arranged in such a way that the rays of the sun freely fall into all corners of the room.

Hidden illumination can advantageously emphasize the proportions of the room.

Electric lighting can supplement the lack of natural light. This is especially true for rooms with windows facing north. The sun rarely comes in here. It is also possible that your low Khrushchev is shaded by a new high-rise building. A well-lit narrow bedroom, together with glossy surfaces and glass, will take the shape of a spacious square.

For especially long rooms, there is a zoning option. If you need space to study or work, it can be fenced off from the sleeping area. Give preference to transparent partitions as well as open shelves. Deaf constructions are inappropriate. They will shade the area of the room left without a window.

Open shelving will leave the room as bright

Ceiling height plays a significant role. If this indicator starts from 2.5 meters, this will have a beneficial effect on the functionality of the room. If you are not afraid of heights, you can build a bed in the second tier. The remaining space under such a structure is ideal for placing a desk, bookshelves, linen closet, or a resting place.

Installing the bed

In a small room, the location of the bed is given special attention. There are three accommodation options:

  • along a long wall;
  • across a long wall;
  • at the end of the room by the window.

The choice depends on the additional items that you plan to install. For example, when placing a work area, the bed will have to be placed near the wall. This is because the desk needs natural light.

Bed located along the room

If one person lives in the room, then the bed is best placed along the wall. It is not wide, so the remaining passage will not be inconvenient. A double bed is so difficult to install. It is best to equip it near a window. If the length allows, the berth is slightly moved away from the window so that there is a gap there. It is required for the bedside table.

There is also an option to arrange a bed with a headboard to the window. In this case, a gap should also be provided there. A desk with a computer fits perfectly here. And so that the light does not interfere with rest, put a screen, or a small structure with open shelves. Here you can arrange decorative elements of the interior, or put books.

Depending on the width of the bedroom, the bed can stand either across or along the room

For the bed to be conveniently tucked in, the width of the passage must be at least half a meter

For connoisseurs of large free space, the best idea is to purchase a sofa bed. Matched to the design style of a narrow bedroom, a spacious sofa will successfully solve two problems at once:

  1. Allows you to leave free space.
  2. Decorate the decoration modern interior narrow bedroom.

In addition, a double bed, which is hidden in the wall space, is suitable. It is best placed in combination with a room wardrobe. This solution will allow you to install shelves on the lower part of the bed, which will serve as a support for the bed, and at the same time carry the functional purpose when folded.

Folding bed for a narrow bedroom

Placing the bed under the wall is one way to increase the passage

Interesting idea. The shelves under the bed are decorated with various decorative elements (figurines, vases). In order for the decor to hold, it is attached to the shelves. This decision will delight the guests and will not leave you indifferent.

The large mirror under the bed is very effective. In addition to improving the overall appearance, it will visually expand the size of the room.

In the presence of high ceilings, the berth can be placed on the second tier. The whole structure must be made functional. The steps are combined, allowing you to hide clothes and bed linen inside. Support posts from the bottom are organized by a wardrobe, sideboard, or ordinary shelves.

When installing the second tier in the children's room, the mezzanine must be equipped with reliable handrails

There is another ideal way to keep square footage free. Construction of the podium. At the same time, the bed will hide inside the structure, and on demand, it will be easy to unfold. A place for reading books is organized at the top of the podium. In addition, here is set soft furniture, and a TV is hung on the wall. Half of the room will remain free.

A podium with pull-out beds will be an ideal solution for arranging a room for two children

If you want to carry out zoning of the room, separate the recreation area with sliding doors or a canopy. This solution will allow people to do different things without interfering with each other.

Ceiling

If there is a need for zoning, reflect this on the ceiling. When choosing a finishing material, stop at different options... When the bed is placed against a long wall, part of the bedroom ceiling is mounted, for example, with wood paneling. The rest of the area is made out with a single-color material, sharply contrasting. Stretch ceilinggood idea... If you are an opponent of inorganic finishes, plain white painted plaster is ideal.

Ceiling in the room modern style it is better to make it even and smooth, without any special designer decorations

IN classic interior the ceiling can be decorated with photo wallpaper

Minimalism

"Minimalism" is perfect for decorating the design of a narrow long bedroom. Style obliges its owner to equip the room with the most necessary. The colors are light, white. A short wall is painted with an excellent shade. Blue, yellow (sand), lemon, olive will do. The gamma is selected faded (important). This arrangement will visually lengthen the short part of the bedroom.

The main rule of minimalism is simplicity and conciseness in all details.

The room must be filled with natural light as much as possible.

The flooring is white laminate. Be sure to buy it glossy, lacquered. The matte texture will "steal" square meters. The gloss will increase the size.

Furniture fronts, table lids are also light-colored. A sliding door of the room, or a small chest of drawers, will successfully serve as an accent. Shades of such elements will fit in black, bright red, bright green.

Decorating should be kept to a minimum, but accent details should be worthwhile.

Original bedside lamps look good

The location of the TV can give a functional component to the space. Place it on a stand made by a bedside table. There are cabinets and shelves above the TV.

Pay attention to the corner of the room. Installing wall shelves here is a great idea. The corner space is usually not used in any way. Arranging the shelves in the corner will free up additional square meters.

Japanese style

The design of a narrow Japanese-style bedroom will create a favorable atmosphere, calm for relaxation after a working day. Strict, clear rectangular shapes, complemented by calm tones of the interior, will ideally fit into the layout of a Khrushchev or panel house. Plants are welcome.

Japanese style is characterized by simplicity, natural materials and comfort

The Japanese style is perfect for zoning a room. Be sure to use sliding doors bedrooms and Shoji style wardrobes. They are characterized by white textiles instead of glass. It is possible to delimit the space with the help of such elements. Also use the shelf opening when zoning. For example, the working space is fenced off from the sleeping area with a structure of this kind.

Use "cloudy" white glass instead of textiles. Its elements are placed everywhere. Walls, ceilings, decorative elements - Shoji pieces will fit anywhere.

To divide the room, use light partitions made of timber frame with stretched paper

The bed is located across the bedroom, against a long wall. A TV is installed opposite. To do this, it is interesting to organize a niche, and put spot lighting on top along the edge. Place the head of the sleeping bed in a niche, using lamps. Cover the back wall of the niche with wallpaper, for example, a pattern of a blossoming sakura tree.

Decorate the window opening with themed bamboo cane blinds. Large pots, planted with decorative bamboo, or a tree resembling sakura are welcome.

Japanese fabric curtains will add coziness to the bedroom.

The floor is made composite. At the edge of the wall, the perimeter is highlighted in light brown. The central part can be arranged in a light, white shade. Place accents. The light part of the floor is decorated with black Japanese characters. Finishing material for such an interior solution, carpet is chosen. But linoleum is also suitable.

Organize a podium, on top of which you can organically place a coffee table. Instead of chairs, buy soft pillows for it, or even lay rugs. This is how the ancient samurai meditated.

Option for a bedroom without a bed - the mattress just lies on thin mats

Wallpaper with a pattern will serve as a decorative finish. Paintings depicting red flowers on a white background will perfectly complement the design. Bedside tables should be wooden, black. On top of them, lanterns are installed, characteristic of the Japanese interior.

In addition to wallpaper, the walls are finished with textured plaster. Relief images of cities, valleys and wildlife Japan. Organize this design right at the head of your bed. Use a niche. Additionally, this design is illuminated from both sides by directional light sources.

On the accent wall photomurals with Japanese motives would be appropriate

The ceiling must be two-level. Traditionally, the perimeter is topped with spotlights. The central part is decorated with flat lamps, enclosed by opaque white glass.

Unfortunately, long narrow rooms are very common, and many owners are faced with the need to "fix" this inconvenient shape and give the apartment functionality and convenience. But on the other hand, such a clumsy room is an excellent platform for creativity and can become a cozy and inviting place in an apartment or house. Here are the rules to make it beautiful and practical.

  1. Paint the wide sides in bright colors of light tones, and the narrow ones in juicy and more saturated ones. You should not stop your choice solely on white when designing, a great solution will become beige, pink or orange. Attracting attention with such accents, you will visually reduce the "extra centimeters" of the elongated walls.
  2. Carpet or flooring should be placed perpendicular to wide walls. Parquet, laminate or tile with a large rectangular pattern can be a good choice in this case.
  3. On one side, you can equip a dressing room or put a tall wardrobe. This is very practical and at the same time you will correct the proportions of the room, making it visually square.
  4. This can also be achieved by "saturating" the interior with smooth lines and curves that hide the corners and hide the feeling of the length of the room. Round or oval furniture, decorative items or paintings are great for this.
  5. Discard massive chandeliers and use spotlights or sconces. It is better to place them on narrow walls painted in saturated colors, otherwise the corridor effect cannot be avoided.
  6. A very original and practical solution can be podiums on the floor and shelves of different sizes and types.
  7. The ceiling should be painted in warm and light colors. Application of multilevel false ceiling it will also hide the irregular shape of the room.
  8. Large mirrors and wallpaper are especially relevant, allowing you to expand the space and blur the outlines of the room.
  9. Natural sunlight will do well. Opt for light and light materials that let in the sun's rays.

Even a designer has to try hard so that a narrow room does not resemble a carriage.

Make two functional centers appear in the room.

Before deciding how best to deal with the "pencil case", you need accurate measurements.

You can turn the disadvantages of your long, narrow room into undeniable advantages by dividing it into two well-shaped zones. This can be a sleeping area and study for the bedroom, or cooking and dining for the kitchen. The correct arrangement of furniture in this case is an excellent way of zoning, but there are also some nuances here.

As long as there is a Soviet building, the issue of narrow rooms will be relevant.

How to make a living room, dining room, bedroom, study, nursery or even a dressing room with the additional function of a guest bedroom out of a long room?

Try not to put massive sofas or blind partitions in such places. This will lead to an even greater visual compression of space and make it difficult to pass. Instead, try catwalks, rugs, or apply multiple colors in your interior design. Such methods will not only allow you to divide your living room or kitchen into independent zones, but also significantly improve their functionality. Mobile partitions, which can also be a striking design element, will cope well with this.

The only problem is that the standard methods of visually expanding the size of a narrow room in this case do not work - neither the light colors of the walls, nor the standard arrangement of furniture will not bring much effect.

Long sofas are your choice; it is even desirable that they be longer than usual.

Avoid placing all furniture near elongated walls and prefer lightweight, light-transmitting structures. A good solution can be a small couch, standing in a narrow place, or several chairs and poufs of different shapes and colors.

The play of colors and textures, the correct zoning of the compressed space and the illumination of the necessary interior elements help to expand the narrow part of the room - these are the techniques that together can correct the room.

A room with a window near the door can also be adapted for a compact area with the functions of a living room.

If both shelves and surfaces are the same width, this will visually balance the room.

The arrangement of furniture in a narrow kitchen has its own characteristics.

  • Dark-colored headsets should be avoided.
  • Use mirrored and glossy facades.
  • It is advisable to place the work surface along a short wall, and dinner table near the window.
  • Leave the space near the long walls free or use open shelves and small shelves.
  • A kitchen backsplash can be crafted in dark textured material to accentuate a short wall.
  • A bar counter or sofa is well suited for zoning, standing with his back to the cooking area and is at the same time the main element of the dining area.

Usually, in order to expand the space, most owners of narrow rooms prefer to glue plain wallpaper or paint the walls in one light color.

In the case when the bedroom turns out to be very small, try to expand the end wall with the headboard with decorative techniques: for example: decorate it with mirrors or wallpaper with an optical effect.

In addition to the main methods of visual correction of the interior space, use LED backlighting, which is gaining more and more popularity lately.

Living room

The design of the living room should be approached especially carefully, because this room is always full of people and the lack of space here is especially sensitive. To hide its length, you should not put the sofa along a wide wall, experiment with its location, and perhaps abandon it altogether. Armchairs, coffee table and a couple of chairs will be very interesting option... In such a living room there is no place for a bulky furniture wall, which will finally turn the room into a railway carriage. Use open shelves and shelves that allow light to pass through. Do not hide the window with heavy curtains and curtains. This will fill the space with natural light.

Your task is to select short walls and reduce the size of long ones.

Colored curtains or drapery are the best decoration: they add airiness to the room and hide extra centimeters of length.

Reception of symmetrical arrangement of objects often saves narrow rooms. Especially children's bedrooms for one or two children.

Bedroom

Divide your bedroom interior by painting the walls in multiple colors. The wall of the room behind the head of the bed can be highlighted with a rich abstract pattern or photo wallpaper. Long walls should be done in warm, neutral colors. The amount of furniture in the bedroom should be minimal, replace large dressers and wardrobes with small bedside tables in the corners, or a tall wardrobe located against one of the walls. Also, a podium under the berth can be a good option, which perfectly hides the difference in wall lengths, becomes a bright interior detail and an excellent storage place for bed linen. Try a bed that retract completely into a wall unit. But if this method is not for you, then place a place to sleep along a short wall or headboard to it.

A plain or mountain ridge receding into the distance will visually expand the room horizontally, which means it will level the disproportionality of a long narrow room.

Competent zoning of a narrow room, a podium, carpet, sofa and other assistants.

Oddly enough, but a narrow room with one window may well be a dining room if the kitchen and cooking area are nearby.

There are a number of general rules in the decoration of doors and windows in such rooms.

  1. Natural light hides the disproportionality of the elongated room and makes it visually larger.
  2. Hang sheer curtains to the edge of the window or lightweight blinds instead of heavy curtains. Roman shades will also look great.
  3. Thick horizontal beams will visually make the window, and with it the walls wider, so try to choose frames with wide horizontal and narrow vertical beams.
  4. An entrance opening in a narrow wall can be made in the form of an eye-catching arch.
  5. If the door is located in a wide wall, try to expand it as much as possible so that the wall appears narrower.
  6. Install sliding interior doors, they will save space and decorate the interior much better than traditional hinge designs.

Just do not try to divide the room into parts with a bulky closet or a blank partition from floor to ceiling - in this case, one of the areas will completely lose natural light.

Better to consider effective options.

Built-in designs offer many options.

Applying these simple rules and imagination, you can turn an uncomfortable narrow elongated room into an original and very functional room that will give you a lot of comfort and coziness, and guests will be surprised much more than the view of a banal ideal square.

A narrow, elongated room is not at all uncommon in our homes.

In addition, such rooms often have one window, so the lighting of such a space suffers.

A built-in design may be successful, leaving no passages between the berth and the wall at all.
