How to repaint doors dark. Painting wooden doors

Door painting is a procedure that is carried out in connection with various circumstances. But it must be borne in mind that this event can be quite difficult. You should be especially careful with staining. interior designs that are not executed from natural wood... There are many nuances that lead to the fact that the desired result is not obtained. Therefore, you should study and follow certain rules developed for independent work.

Paint for interior doors is selected with great care. It is necessary to understand that first you need to find out what kind of coating the parts to be painted have. If the material of the canvases is wood or MDF, the following compositions are used:

  • Nitroenamels. Many craftsmen rightly consider nitro enamels to be the best paint materials that exist today. Their arguments are based on the fact that the resulting surface has many positive qualities. So, it is durable and is not afraid of various influences. Such a substance is easy to work with. Indeed, the advantages seem undeniable, but we must not forget that nitro enamels have a very pungent odor that disappears within 2-3 days, provided that constant ventilation is established. Therefore, it is immediately worthwhile to provide for the preparation of a separate room or the presence of an exhaust hood for carrying out such work.

Nitro enamels allow you to create a durable coating, but have a very bad smell
  • Alkyd enamels. Opponents of the previous option are inclined to believe that you should not overpay for materials, so you need to pay attention to alkyd enamel. The fact is that this composition much cheaper than nitro enamel, but has similar qualities. Yes it is. However, apart from positive properties, such enamels were adopted and negative points... They dry for a very long time and have a specific smell.

The main advantage of alkyd enamel is its low cost.
  • Acrylic enamels. Acrylic enamel has become much less popular. Although this is due only to the more complex process of its application. After all, the peculiarity of this material is that it needs additional protection. For this, varnish is used, which is applied in several layers. In fact, the lack of odor and complete environmental friendliness make such a composition ideal for work at home.

Acrylic enamel is odorless, but needs additional protection
  • Colored varnishes. Colored varnishes for wood are used least often. The fact is that they are intended for covering natural wood, veneer. Although they can be used to work with even fiberboard, the effect is not very impressive.

Colored varnishes for wood create an effective decorative coating

Particular attention is paid to compositions when the question arises of how to paint a laminated door correctly? It should be borne in mind that the laminate has a very low resistance. In general, it is very difficult to paint such doors; it is required to carry out all work with the utmost care and painstaking care.

For work, all the compositions that have been described above can be used, but with one condition. It consists in the fact that the surface must be completely cleaned of the old coating, but in such a way as not to damage the base. Further, impregnation with antiseptics and a primer is carried out. To create a new layer, it is recommended to use a stain, which is covered with a protective layer of varnish. If there is a desire to use paint, then the primer is applied in several layers. Of course, what paint to paint the doors - everyone decides for himself, based on the requirements of the interior.

The stain allows you to prepare the door leaf for further decoration

Preparation rules

Interior doors for painting require careful preparation. It should be noted that in order to obtain the most desirable and visually beautiful coating, all work must be carried out with the condition that the canvas will be removed. That is, the process should be carried out in a convenient place, on a horizontal plane. This will provide the most complete access to all parts of the structure, and will also allow you to apply the compounds so that a uniform surface is obtained.

Do-it-yourself preparation of interior doors takes place in several stages:

Doors can be painted only after all preparation steps have been completed. It is worth noting that many are negligent in such an important event as dust removal. You need to understand that the smallest particles will lead to the fact that the paint will roll off, and also lose its appearance.

Dust removal with subsequent priming of the surface is an important stage in the preparatory work

On a note! Door paint is purchased only in trusted and reliable stores. The label must contain data that indicate for which work this composition is suitable, as well as instructions for preparation.

Choosing a paint application tool

How to paint interior doors right? This issue requires very careful consideration. It is impossible to obtain a coating that will have an excellent visual effect if the technology is not performed correctly. It is assumed that the application of paint (varnish) can be carried out manually or mechanically.

Of course, with some care and patience, you can do the process well enough with a brush. It is necessary to understand that natural materials are the easiest to process.

Painting technology

How to properly paint an interior door with your own hands? The work itself is not difficult. But it is important to follow the sequence of applying each of the layers. The procedure is performed as follows:

  • The surface is carefully checked. It must be prepared in compliance with all the nuances.
  • The composition is prepared according to the instructions.
  • The first layer is applied using the selected tool.

Using a foam roller when painting doors is not recommended

On a note! It is unacceptable to use a foam roller. The fact is that this material destroyed by the action of nitro enamels. In other cases, it tends to create bubbles, making it difficult to obtain a good finish.

  • The applied layer of paint should dry well.
  • The coating is treated with an abrasive. Zero sandpaper is suitable for this. It is convenient to use a grinder with a special attachment. But if there is no proper experience, then this stage at home is skipped.
  • Painted areas can be rubbed well with alcohol. It is important to remove the resulting dust.
  • The next layer is applied. It also needs to dry.
  • The surface is polished.

After carrying out all the manipulations, the interior door takes on the desired appearance. To protect it, varnish is applied. Of course, this composition can be used as an independent element. It is applied in the same way as paint, but the number of layers is increased. It is important to sand thoroughly between coats to achieve the desired effect.

How can you paint a door? The question sometimes seems very difficult. This is indeed the case. But if you follow the existing rules, you get a coating that will please the eye for a long time.

It is quite possible to save the budget on buying a new door and refresh the interior of the room. To do this, it is enough to update the old door structure adhering to the technology of preparation and painting of the canvas.

All about the choice of paint, coloring features different types doors and stages of implementation painting works written in the article.

Distinctive features of painting different types of doors

Old interior and exterior doors often have a high-quality frame and durable canvas. Various models, even those made of fine wood, lose their original luster over time. A layer of paint accumulated over the years spoils the appearance of the doors and needs reconstruction.

The simplest and affordable way renovation of the entrance structure - covering with new paint. Anyone can handle this job House master, it is enough to know the features of materials for making doors, modern varnishes and paints, as well as observe the painting technology.

The process of painting different types of doors has its own characteristics:

  1. Solid wood. Doors made of this material are smooth, heavy structures. This option maximizes the natural structure of the wood. To renew the array, you should choose a transparent varnish or glaze glaze. If the canvas is outdated, then wood-like glaze will do.
  2. MDF. The structure of such a door consists of sheets of chipboard and insulation. Painting an MDF door is quite simple, but before that, you should carefully prepare the surface.
  3. Paneled canvases. The frame is made of MDF, and the inserts are made of thin boards or plywood sheets. Before painting, the structure will have to be disassembled into its constituent elements. Due to the large number of joints, paneled doors wear out faster and require renewal more often.

How to choose materials for painting a door

Quality paints cannot be too cheap. In this case, the savings are not justified. Sometimes, shortly before the end of the shelf life, stores will reduce the price by paints and varnishes... If painting a wooden door is planned for the coming days, then this option will save money without losing quality.

Optimal door paint

Reflecting on the question: "How to cover the door?" it is necessary to have a general idea of paints and varnishes, their pros and cons. The range of all paints is usually classified into transparent and opaque.

Opaque paints include alkyd and oil coatings. Most often, nitro paint, acrylic and alkyd enamel are used. Each of the listed paints has its own characteristics.

Alkyd enamel is the most affordable, presented in a wide range of colors and shades. After drying, a durable coating is formed, resistant to external factors. The material is wear-resistant, economical in consumption and dries up relatively quickly.

A significant drawback of alkyd paint is an unpleasant odor that lingers in the room for about two days after staining. Vapors negatively affect the health of allergy sufferers and people with respiratory diseases. It is not advisable to use alkyd enamels in children's rooms.

Nitro paint has high aesthetic properties, color palette materials are superior to acrylic / alkyd enamels. The significant advantages include high wear resistance and strength. However, nitro paint is even more harmful to health than alkyd enamel. Paint fumes are very toxic, painting work is carried out only in well-ventilated rooms in compliance with safety regulations. Until the paint is completely dry, you cannot enter the room.

Water-based acrylic enamels are best suited for painting interior doors. The composition is easy to apply, lays down well, and when dry, there is no unpleasant toxic odor.

Cons of acrylic paint: higher price and low durability. To increase the durability of the coating and maintain an aesthetic top view, the paint is coated with a special acrylic varnish.

Varnish for wooden doors more often used for structures from an array. Varnishing, like painting with paint, protects doors from moisture, bright light and other external influences. There are clear and tinted varnishes. Some materials are used in conjunction with paints. The choice of this or that varnish depends on the result that you want to get.

Tinted varnishing gives the door a certain shade. Transparent transmits the color of natural wood tone on tone.

Advice. When buying a varnish, you should pay attention to the drying speed. It is better to choose a quick-drying paintwork material - such varnish does not spread over the surface and is harmless to health.

Choosing the color of interior doors

Today's range of paints allows you to bring to life the most daring design solutions on the design of the room. V modern design there are three main trends in painting interior doors:

  • gentle, light tones of blue, peach, green, pink, lavender;
  • dark saturated shades of brown, cherry, blue, chocolate;
  • bright colours- orange, yellow, red.
  1. Dark shades such as "cherry", "red nut", "dark chocolate" will add sophistication and luxury to the living room. Light colors are well suited for decorating bedrooms and children's rooms, creating a cozy and comfortable environment.
  2. The bedroom set in snow-white color is combined with the same white door, decorated with golden panels.
  3. For wooden house it is better to choose doors from solid wood, covered with transparent oil impregnation.
  4. The classic interior with antique furniture can be complemented by an artificially aged wooden door.
  5. The color of the door frame should be either lighter or darker than the color of the walls.

How to paint a wooden door correctly: the technological process

Required tools

The first step is to take care of the tools. For work you will need:

  • tray for paint;
  • paint brushes;
  • gloves;
  • rags;
  • putty knife;
  • masking tape;
  • emery cloth;
  • vacuum cleaner;
  • flashlight - can be useful for conveniently finding defects on the door leaf;
  • stools (4 pcs.) or goats (2 pcs.).

Of the materials you will need:

  • putty;
  • primer;
  • paint or varnish;
  • solvent.

Surface preparation

It is more convenient to work with the removed canvas. Therefore, the door is previously removed from the hinges and placed on a support, for example, on 4 stools. If the door is painted with an alkyd compound, then it is better to carry out the work in the yard, on the terrace or balcony.

After removing the door, dismantle all fittings. Non-removable handles and hinges can be wrapped in paper, secured with tape or wrapped in foil. Fix the lock mechanism and seal it with tape.

In order to paint the door correctly, you need to properly prepare it. How smoothly the paint will lay on the door depends on the quality of this stage. Preparation procedure:

  1. Delete old paint, a layer of putty and primer right down to the wood. To facilitate the work, you can use a sander, sandpaper, a special wood remover.
  2. Perform preliminary sanding. This will help remove minor dents, scratches, and paint residues. Grinding is carried out with a grinder, medium-grained emery. Vacuum the surface.
  3. Putty the visible imperfections of wood with a special putty. Pay special attention to the gaps between decorative elements and the canvas, lintel and jamb.
  4. After the putty has completely dried, sand the door again with sandpaper - first with medium-grained, and then with fine-grained.

Advice. The wood that has darkened over time can be clarified with a solution of chlorine bleach and water in a ratio of 3: 1, respectively.

Door painting scheme

The staining scheme depends on the door design:

  1. Panel door. Painting takes place in three stages. It is advisable to use a roller - it does not leave marks, hairs and ensures uniform painting. Staining starts from the top corner of the door in the lateral direction from left to right. After applying the first coat, the paint must be completely dry. The second layer is applied in the longitudinal direction, and the third in the transverse direction.
  2. Paneled door. First, use a brush to paint all the grooves in the canvas. It is important to avoid excess paint. Finally, the entire door is painted with a roller, adhering to the sequence of painting the panel structure.

Having decided on the painting technology, you can proceed to further actions.

Staining order

  1. Lay the prepared canvas horizontally, having previously covered the surface with polyethylene. Protect the glass in the door with masking tape.
  2. Paint over small elements of the wooden door, panels and protruding details with a brush.
  3. Apply the first coat of paint with a roller.
  4. Leave the door to dry completely and repeat the painting in a perpendicular direction.
  5. If it is necessary to achieve a brighter and more saturated color, the door is painted in three layers.

How to paint solid pine doors correctly: process features

The advantage of inexpensive pine is the pleasant aroma of pine needles, which adds peace to the house and promotes undisturbed sleep. Pine belongs to soft wood species, therefore it is susceptible to environmental influences. To make the material more durable and wear-resistant, it is necessary to protect it with the correct paintwork.

Some designers are reluctant to use solid pine doors in the interior due to the presence of knots. This flaw can be corrected with a tint stain. The tool will not disturb the wood grain, but will give it a noble shade.

Before painting, the surface must be putty and sanded. Resin drips and pockets should be removed, the door leaf should be sanded.

Pine door painting sequence:

  1. Sanding. The door, both new and old, must be pre-treated with sandpaper.
  2. Remove dust from the surface.
  3. Prime the canvas. The primer promotes uniform paint application and additionally protects the wood from decay. For the best antiseptic protection, it is recommended to use a special impregnation.
  4. Staining. Using a roller, apply the stain of the desired shade to the door. Opaque paints are suitable for completely painting the texture.
  5. Cover the door with varnish.

Opening with varnish - practicality and durability of wooden doors

Consider the technology of how to properly paint the door with varnish:

  1. The first stage is preparation. The order of preparatory measures is fully consistent with the technology of painting with paint.
  2. Stir the selected varnish directly in the jar to obtain a homogeneous mass (during storage of paintwork materials, the material may delaminate). Stir very slowly so that no bubbles form.
  3. The first layer is a primer. It is carried out with diluted varnish, diluted with water or solvent (depending on the type of base). The primer is applied along the wood structure with a brush. When painting, do not stop, otherwise a stain will form on the surface, which will have to be sanded.
  4. After the primer has dried, sand the door with fine sandpaper to remove protruding wood fibers.
  5. Applying a layer of varnish. This layer is applied in a cross direction with the previous one.

The door is opened with varnish until a perfectly smooth surface is formed. You will have to apply at least three coats.

How to paint a fiberboard door correctly: step by step instructions

Fiberboard is a very porous material, so it must be primed before painting. This will reduce paint consumption and increase the durability of the coating. As a primer, ordinary drying oil is suitable, which must first be heated to a temperature of + 40 ° - + 50 ° C.

Sequence for painting fiberboard doors:

  1. Remove the door from its hinges, lay it horizontally, clean it of debris and dust. Wipe the surface with a cloth soaked in alcohol.
  2. Apply several coats of primer. Thorough impregnation will significantly increase the strength and water resistance of the fiberboard. The drying oil can be replaced with a primer mixture with fungicides / insecticides. Such compositions are devoid of bad smell and it is enough to apply them in one layer.
  3. Fill visible cracks and leave the door to dry completely.
  4. Sand the surface with sandpaper.
  5. Alkyd, oil, acrylic or water dispersion paints are suitable for painting. When choosing a composition, one must take into account the type of fiberboard. For example, waterproof fiberboard will repel water-based paints.

In what color to paint the interior doors, many think during the start of the repair. After all, the entire interior should be harmonious. And we will look at how to paint the interior doors today.

In this matter, it is important to initially determine their appearance. After all, there are many finishing options and the photo and video in this article will help with this.

There are many different compositions for painting wooden surfaces (see What paint is better for painting wood: make a choice). First of all, it is necessary to determine what paint to paint the interior doors with. After all, they are different in their composition and characteristics.

It can also be a dense saturated layer. But if you wish, you can apply a thin transparent layer and simply emphasize the structure of the wood. Everything can be done with your own hands and the final price will not scare you.

How can I paint the doors

For creating good coverage it is necessary to choose the composition, and this already depends on you personally.

In this question, you need to understand what kind of coverage you want to see:

  • For a dense, opaque finish. These are thick enamels and paints with a base of liquid acrylic, polyurethane, perchlorovinyl. This group also includes quite rare, outdated oil-based formulations.
  • Toning compounds. These are various impregnations that penetrate deep into the layers of wood, and not only give it a certain shade, but also protect it from destructive external influences.
  • Transparent coatings... These are various varnishes, both glossy and matte, which cover the surface of the wood with a transparent layer that protects the wood from moisture.

For home use, professional painters recommend using easy-to-apply formulations, such as:

  • Water-based acrylic paints. They have the best brush consistency, good adhesion and excellent hiding power. Acrylic paints are only slightly inferior to oil paints in their surface spreadability, which is another advantage of these coatings.
  • Alkyd-based paints and varnishes. They dry quickly, are not affected by temperature fluctuations, and repel liquids well, protecting the wooden surface.

Attention: The second option (alkyd paints and varnishes) is best suited for painting bathroom and kitchen doors.

Due to the high protective properties of these compounds, the wood will last much longer and will remain in in the best possible way... except entrance doors, alkyd dyes can be used to paint interior doors in indoor areas.

  • Please note that for better adhesion, all alkyd resin paints apply only to a thoroughly wiped surface. If you do not follow this condition, the top layer of paint will be covered with bubbles, and over time it will begin to flake off.

Painting a wooden door is done in several stages:

  • Several formulations are often used. First of all, the door is cleaned of old paint (see How to wash off paint without problems), then it is covered with a primer. Sometimes it is necessary to re-prime if the first layer is uneven.
  • Then staining is done door leaf... If it is possible to remove the door from its hinges, it is painted in an upright state. If the door remains in place, the staining starts from the top. Large even panels are covered with paint using a roller (see), small details are processed with a brush.
  • In order for the coating to lay evenly, the layers are dried and the result is evaluated. If necessary, repeat the staining so that the paint lies evenly. Too thick layers of damp paint should be avoided, as they slide down, spoiling the appearance of the surface.

Door painting steps

In addition to the door itself, it is usually necessary to paint the jamb, door stock and hinges. In order to evenly paint all the details, it is better to remove the door from its hinges. After that, all the details of the door frame are painted and dried for the required time.

The door leaf can be dusted with paint in two ways:

  • The door leaf is removed and taken out into the open air, where it is painted. Work on painting the interior surfaces of the room must be carried out in summer period to be able to ventilate.
  • Do not remove the door leaf, but lift it with wedges, move it away from the jamb so that you can get all the elements with a thin brush.

When the work is over, you do not need to take out the wedges, otherwise the inner edges of the door will come into contact with the door butt, the paint will be smeared.

It is not always possible to remove the door. Sometimes there are designs with fixed hinges, handles, door locks. If they cannot be dismantled, then they can be carefully pasted over with paper tape.

Wood surface preparation

The wooden surface must be carefully prepared before painting. It will take some diligence and accuracy to get a good result.

Cleaning a wooden surface is carried out in several stages:

  • The first stage is complete paint removal. Nothing from the previous coating should remain on the surface. To make the paint easier to remove, the surface is covered with a special compound that reduces the adhesion between it and the surface of the wood. Residues are removed with a spatula and sandpaper.
  • Another way to remove paint is to use a sander. When using it, you must follow all safety rules, and wear a protective face mask. Coarse-grained sandpaper is installed on the working surface of the machine.

Heating also allows for efficient paint removal. The surface of the door leaf is heated construction hairdryer... When bubbles appear, they are opened and the paint is removed layer by layer from the surface to be cleaned.

  • The second stage is grinding. This processing method removes minor scratches, abrasions and paint chips. Sanding can be done in different ways, by hand or with sandpaper.
  • The third stage is putty (see Putty on wood: how to do it wisely). It is necessary to choose a special composition for wood that has a fine-grained structure. If the door is covered with a transparent compound, it is necessary to select a putty to match the surface, or paint it with special dyes. When processing, pay close attention to all minor scratches and surface damage, especially in hard-to-reach places.
  • The fourth stage is finishing grinding. It allows you to bring the surface to zero, perfectly leveling it and all the decor details, if they are present on the door surface. It must be remembered that the last sanding is done very delicately, using fine-grained sandpaper. After completing all the work, the surface is thoroughly wiped from dust and working debris with a dry cloth.

Attention: If the dents are too deep, ordinary putty may not hold up well. It can be replaced with an automotive one, without fiberglass.

Old, darkened solid wood, under a thick layer of paint or varnish, is easy to lighten. Chlorine bleach diluted in water in a 1: 3 ratio is required.

Coloring without applying various effects

The purchase of materials directly depends on the number of doors that need to be painted. If there are less than two of them, it is unprofitable to buy a sprayer; you can get by with an ordinary paneled brush.

For large flat canvases without decorative elements, it is better to use a roller. The brush must be fluffed well before painting so that poorly fixed hairs can fall out before painting.

The door type determines the painting method:

  • Coloration panel door it will take a little time. It is painted in three steps. Since it has a flat surface, a roller is needed. The coating is first applied from all ends, then the entire canvas is painted over, starting from the upper left corner, and the movement is directed to the side. The next layer is applied at right angles to the first, the finishing layer is applied in the same way as at the beginning.
  • Doors with a complex surface are painted only with a brush. Paint over all protruding elements, grooves, wood carvings and patterns, then flat surfaces, which can be passed with a roller.

How to stain doors

Before staining, the door is moistened, so the wood increases its adhesion, and the coating is better absorbed and evenly lays down.

  • All horizontal surfaces are painted with a stain along the grain, then across, and the last time - again along the grain.
  • Shoals, door frame and the canvas is covered with a transparent stain or varnish from the bottom up, and with opaque compounds from top to bottom.
  • After treating the wood with a water-based stain, the wood fibers are straightened, and in order to level the surface, they must be leveled with zero sandpaper. Then the surface is wiped off with a dry cloth and covered with stain again.

Note: The surface color after drying is much lighter than that of a freshly painted door. A darker color can be achieved by repeatedly staining the surface.

  • To avoid the final sanding step, choose an alcohol-based stain.

How to create a wood imitation

You can create imitation of wood fibers on almost any surface.

For this you need:

  • The wood cloth is painted with light paint of natural shades;
  • Then the dried surface is covered with liquid soap with a brush;
  • A darker color is applied on top of the soap, then the soap is washed off with water.

At home, you can create an imitation of a veneered door even on the surface of a plywood door. To implement this method, you will need a special brush sold in hardware stores.

  • It is necessary to "comb" the surface of the door leaf with its metal fibers, so that visible shallow grooves appear on it.
  • The surface is stained with contrasting dyes. After drying, patterns characteristic of natural wood appear on the surface.

Now you know how to repaint interior doors. And observing the basic rules, you can learn how to paint and decorate any wooden surfaces. It won't be too difficult.

After practicing on the doors, in the future it will be possible to restore more complex interior items - cabinets, tables and sideboards. Instructions for painting and finishing all types of doors are available on our website.

One way or another, everyone has a need for redecorating the apartment. Usually they start by re-gluing the wallpaper. And then there is a need to replace the interior doors. But this is not at all necessary. Old ones are often made of much better quality, from good wood, and you just need to make some effort to transform them. Writing to an old interior door new life, anyone who is armed with knowledge about modern paints and varnishes and is familiar with painting technology can fit it into the updated interior.

The easiest way to do this is with brushes, rollers and paint cans.

Types of paints for painting interior doors

Paints for interior doors are of the following types:

  • acrylic varnishes
  • alkyd enamels
  • acrylic enamels
  • nitro paints

Lucky

If you remove layers of old paint with solvent and emery, which are probably on old door then you can see an interesting and beautiful drawing of a tree. In this case, for painting, it is better to choose a varnish for internal works... Colorless or tint, it accentuates natural patterns wood and give the door a fresh look. Before varnishing, you can use various tinting impregnations based on natural oils, which can help change the color, make the wood more resistant to environmental influences, and the varnish film will further strengthen the effect.

The lacquer coating is almost odorless, dries quickly and is quite safe. The varnish is easy to apply and does not spread over the surface, however, modern high-quality varnishes are not cheap.

Alkyd enamels

The most common paint for interior doors is alkyd enamel. These paints are cheap, have a rich color palette and, after drying, provide very durable coating... The main disadvantage of using alkyd enamel is pungent smell of fumes, which does not erode for more than a day. Evaporation of enamel solvents can lead to allergies and even poisoning, therefore, to use this paint, it is necessary either to ensure that there are no residents in the apartment, or to carry out work in the open air.

Acrylic enamels

In the case when these conditions are impracticable, you can use acrylic enamel to paint the interior doors. These paints are practically odorless, but the resulting coating is not very durable. Acrylic enamels create a matte finish, so most often acrylic varnish is applied over the enamel, due to which the surface acquires gloss and additional durability of the coating... A wide color palette of these paints allows them to be used to find various design solutions.

Nitro paints

When painting interior wooden doors, nitro paint or nitro varnish are considered the best materials in terms of coating durability. However, using them requires protective equipment such as a respirator, as the paint is very toxic and can cause an allergic reaction. To use it, the absence of people or work in the fresh air is required. Besides, road nitro paints... But the quality of the coating justifies the price.

For redecorating interior doors with your own hands, in addition to the selected paint, you need:

  • spatulas,
  • paint brushes and rollers,
  • sandpaper,
  • putty,
  • masking tape,
  • primer,
  • solvent,
  • construction hair dryer.

To prepare the door for painting, it is necessary to remove a layer of old paint. The easiest and most effective way to do this is with a construction hair dryer, but if you don't have one, you can do it with a spatula and sandpaper. Some paints, such as vinyl and nitrocellulose, can be removed well with chemical solvents. Modern products of this type come in the form of gels, powders and liquids. They are applied to the surface to be cleaned and kept for some time, which is indicated on the solvent packaging.

After removing the old coating, the door must be washed and cracks and chips, if any, must be repaired with a putty. After the putty has dried, the surface must be carefully sanded with fine sandpaper and washed again.

It is possible to paint only after complete drying. To improve the quality of the coating, the door must be removed from the hinges - so unevenness and sagging can be avoided when applying a paint layer.

Before starting work, fittings that cannot be removed are pasted over with masking tape. It will also help to keep the glass inserts clean and will allow, if necessary, to accurately paint the door in several colors.

Before painting, a wooden interior door is better prime, which will improve the adhesion of paint to wood and reduce its consumption. The primer is selected individually for each type of paint.

When choosing a primer and paint, it is also necessary to take into account which zones of the apartment the door separates. If you have to paint the door to the bathroom, then you should choose varnishes and paints marked "waterproof" and with antifungal effect.

Repainting an old door is a quick and inexpensive way to freshen up the look of your home and add new vibrant colors to your decor. To make a high-quality, durable coating, you need to go through several stages of work. It does not matter here whether you repaint the interior doors or entrance doors, the technology is the same. Although it should be borne in mind that the adverse effects on external doors are much more serious, and it is necessary to choose a paint specifically for external doors.

  • In most cases, the door is removed from its hinges before painting and laid horizontally on the trestle. It is much more convenient to work in this way and a more uniform paint application is achieved. You can, of course, paint the door without removing it from the hinges, only in this case you need to tape the hinges and lock handles with tape, and paint the door open.

  • We put the door removed from the hinges on the trestle and remove the hinges and locks. Now it is necessary to determine the strength of the old coating, further actions depend on this, whether it is necessary to remove the old paint completely or be limited cosmetic repairs... If the paint peels off and falls off in pieces, then you will have to clean the entire surface. This can be done in two ways: Heat the coating with a building hair dryer and cut off with a spatula; in another version, the old layer is soaked with a special wash and is also removed with a spatula.
  • Next, you need to close up the cracks with putty and scrub. If the door is in good condition, then we simply sand the old paint to get a rough surface, otherwise the new paint may lie poorly and peel off quickly. After skhkurivaniya carefully sweep the dust, it is better to blow it out with a compressor.

  • Apply a primer as the first layer, it can be a special composition, or a liquid-diluted base paint. The primer must be thinner in order to penetrate the inside of the door leaf and provide a more durable coating with the base paint. The primer is the same type as the paint of your choice.
