Painting cabinet from MDF. How to paint the MDF: polyurethane soil, enamel and varnish

Almost every host or hostess periodically arises the desire to change something in the ordinary interior of its apartment or private house. However, one permutation of furniture and other interior items, unfortunately, it is not always possible to achieve the desired result.

In such cases, it usually cuts out not only the movement of objects, but also a change in their appearance by painting in other colors. As the overwhelming majority of furniture are made of publicly available and inexpensive materials, such as MDF, then the question often arises how to repaint furniture from MDF on their own without attracting third-party specialists.

Changing the color of all furniture or its separate components can change dramatically appearance Premises and give it a new highlight. In order to do this work with your own hands, it is not necessary to have special practical skills or complex factory equipment at all. It is enough to purchase the necessary paints, prepare the tool and can be started.

Tools and materials required for painting

in order to change exterior appearance Furniture, you will need to prepare all the material and the tool in the desired quantity, as well as allocate a little time so that the work has passed without a rush and the chandeliers.

For the interior you will need:

  • paint, one or more colors depending on your idea;
  • wood putty, for partial repair and sealing of butt cracks;
  • paint container;
  • greasy tape required width;
  • roller with shallow pile length;
  • flat brush;
  • hand protective gloves;
  • respirator to protect the respiratory tract from the toxic release of fresh paint;
  • protective glasses.

In some cases, laminated MDF can be useful, the soil on the laminated surface will not be required. Before painting furniture from MDF, also prepare emery paper, it may be needed for stripping putty and end surfaces. It is important to approach the surface preparation process with a special responsibility, since the final result of painting depends on this stage of work.

What paints to choose to work

Before proceeding with painting work, it is necessary to accurately determine the desired end result in advance. Based on this, choose the appropriate coating.

The substances used for the decoration of furniture can be divided into two main types:

  • transparent;
  • opaque.

Opaque substances are used to create a protective layer and enhancing the natural color of wood through the use of special pigments in them.

These substances include:

  • azure;
  • olife

The price of these coatings is significantly higher than that of pigment paints and they are used mainly for expensive furniture from pure wood expensive breeds. If the furniture is made of conventional MDF or other similar materials, then can be used based on acrylic, latex or polyurethane.

Tip: If furniture items are quite old and have small scratches, they use compositions based on water or oil to finish them.
Crashing furniture from MDF using paints on a water basis looks very beautiful and serve quite expensive.

Recently, alkyd mixtures are popular, since they are easily applied to the surface, quickly dries, but, unfortunately, has a relatively low service life compared to oil or water.

Also actively used substances based on polyurethane, which are easy to use have a long service life, but during operation, toxic substances are distinguished and the premises are required. It is important to remember that on each composition there is an instruction in which it is indicated how to properly apply the composition to the surface and under what conditions can it be used.

Preparation of the surface to painting

This is the most important part of the entire event on which the entire end result depends. Many often ask a question if you can paint furniture from MDF without prior training?

It is possible, but it is not recommended, because in this case the paint may be concisely closed with the surface and during operation in conditions of frequent mechanical effects or temperature drops, such a coating will be in use very quickly, cracks and can be compressed at all.

  1. To prepare, it is necessary to process the surface with emery paper to create a rough surface. If there are large cracks or scratches, they are desirable to fill this again to sand to eliminate drops and irregularities. The purpose of the processing of emery paper is to eliminate the smoothness of the surface, which negatively affects the adhesion.

  1. After preliminary preparation, the primer is applied to the area being processed. The primer will provide an additional adhesion surface and significantly reduce the consumption of paints and varnishes.
  2. Also, the primer allows you to create a kind of barrier between the paint and natural substances of the wood itself, which during the selection can affect the quality of the hollows of the layer and lead to the sad results.

The process of applying paint on the surface

The process of applying decorative composition as simple as possible, however, has its own characteristics:

  • apply layers on the surface recommended strictly in one direction;
  • the last layer should be applied along the processed canvas;

  • do not start applying the second layer to complete drying of the first;
  • the processed surface must be completely dry and not having fat stains;
  • try not to apply more than two layers of paint.

Tip: If a tree is used with high voltage devices, then in such cases the electrically conductive Zinga paint is used, which will provide additional insulation from the electric current.

Conclusion

If the furniture is located in close proximity to the fire, it is possible to use fire retardant paints on metal polystyl, which are well falling on the prepared wooden surface and protect against deformation and damage when exposed to high temperature.

An even more interesting information can be found in the video in this article.

Coloring of products from MDF is produced in two cases. The first is when the protective coating is required, the second is for decorating purposes. This can use various paints and varnishes. About how to paint the MDF and will be discussed below.

Advantages of painting MDF.

Currently, this material is actively used when creating furniture interior. And they are all subject to color, which acts as decorative and finishing coating.

Its use gives the following advantages:

  • The painted element from the MDF is not afraid of elevated temperatures - due to this it is possible its use in the kitchen, where it will be placed on it;
  • Decoration into non-standard colors will help add brightness and originality in the interior of the room - it can be "metallic", "mother of pearl" or other unusual colors;

  • The absence of chemical compounds harmful to health is an undoubted plus for the coloring of MDF at home - the only condition is the use of high-quality paints and varnishes;
  • Durability - paint application allows you to significantly extend the life of the product.

Of course, this method of protecting surfaces has disadvantages. They consist in the fact that the price of painting parts significantly exceeds the cost of pasting such products with decorative film. In addition, under the influence of sun rays, the painted surface can fade.

Materials for coloring MDF

Since MDF is a wooden product, it can be covered with almost any paint or lacquer for wood. But it is possible to obtain a truly high-quality coating only subject to the use of specialized compositions.

These include:

  • polyurethane soil,
  • polyurethane paint,
  • and also varnish for MDF.

Let's talk about them in more detail.

Polyurethane sad

Thinking about what you can paint the MDF panels, you must first take care of the priming of products. It will prevent the paint into the material, so that its consumption will decrease.

In this case, a special polyurethane primer is required. It will hide the texture of the material and create a layer having high performance and adhesion. In addition, the formed coating will be smooth and easy to grinding.

Apply such primer is best with a sprayer. With its absence, the use of roller or brush is possible. The subsequent drying takes 8-10 hours and is carried out at room temperature.

Tip! To achieve the best result, this procedure should be carried out in full compliance with the prescriptions that the instructions for the use of this composition.

Polyurethane enamel on MDF

Compared to other paint materials, it has the following advantages:

  • the coating obtained with its help is wear-resistant and chemically resistant;
  • there is no smell because it does not contain volatile components;
  • it can be used for staining components designed for both internal and outdoor use.

It produces various manufacturers. The products of Italian stamps Sirka and Sivam use in great demand. Their popularity among polyurethane materials for MDF are akin to the one that has electrically conductive Zinga paint, in a number of compositions for anti-corrosion metal processing.

Such polyurethane paint is two- or one-component. The first form before use requires the addition of a hardener into it.

The second variety does not need such an additive and is produced in the ready-to-use form. And one and the other species is applied with a spray, roller or brush.

These coloring compositions are sold, as well as fire retardant paints on metal polystyl, in special metal buckets. The mass of them can be from 1 to 25 kilograms.

Along with the above-mentioned Sirk and Sivam brands, they are successful and other brands, such as Tikkurila and Teknos. But they are all fairly road.

Therefore, if necessary, paintwork materials of other, less well-known manufacturers can be used instead of them. Or not to use non-polyurethane, but cheaper alkyd enamels.

Also worth paying attention to acrylic and oil paints. In particular, the question of how to paint the arch from MDF, one can look at domestic acrylic compositions.

Tip! Choose moisture-resistant dyes. The product covered with them will be possible in the future, it is easily washed, which is very convenient.

Nail Polish on MDF.

In the photo - polyurethane varnish

This specialized varnish is used for MDF or to tint them. It forms a smooth coating, stable both mechanically and chemical influences. The resulting surface can be both matte and glossy.

The specified varnish does not smell and is two-component. This means that for the preparation of the work maker you need to add a hardener into it.

After that, the mixture must be achieved for two or three hours. It can be applied with their own hands using a sprayer.

Output

Coloring MDF allows you to significantly increase its service life, as well as make a product more attractive and resistant to elevated temperatures. Since the MDF is wood material, then it can be treated with practically any paints or wood varnishes ().

But to get the best result, it is still worth using specialized compositions. This is polyurethane soil, as well as polyurethane enamel and varnish on MDF. They allow creating a solid and wear-resistant coating that can have the most diverse color.

More information on the named theme will tell you the video in this article.

It often happens that there is a furniture and she is not spoiled, just tired. FROM wooden furniture Everything is obvious, you can repaint. And if this chipboard, lacquered furniture or MDF? Here, of course, there are nuances. Today I will tell you using my own experience, how to repaint a wardrobe from chipboard.Furniture from MDF and lacquered is in the same way.

This article is a continuation of the post to update the room with your own hands. In the first part, I told how to do redecorating Predit and not having experience. In particular, I managed to repaint ordinary vinyl wallpapers. You can read about it.

Prehistory.: Objects repainting will be several.

  1. Huge corner cupboardThat was the first our family purchase of furniture. Now I would have not bought such a dssp - for anything))). Although the cabinet, of course, is very practical, in fact it replaces a small wardrobe room. But ... he is 15 years old, he is absolutely outdated outwardly, and since this closet does not be antiques, then old age does not benefit him. And most importantly, it was tired so that I don't want to look at him.
  2. Chest of drawers. Komod veneered and already converted (about it), but the change of textiles and the color of the walls did not very fit into the interior. I would also like to make friends with a wardrobe.
  3. Mirror, homemade, with bamboo frame. Expensive as memory. This is the first thing we and my husband and I have done together. My apartment needlework began with him. Also it was already repainted and also not friendly with the current interior, so I will change the color.

According to my preliminary calculations, the cost of these alterations will be about 4,000 rubles somewhere. Agree, it is negligible compared to the purchase of new furniture.

What I needed:
  1. A soft brush with an artificial pile. 2-3 pieces.
  2. Roller fur small 10-15 cm. 2-3 pieces. You can take one handle-nozzle and three replaceable rollers.
  3. True for roller. Also small, must approach the size to the roller.
  4. Malyary Scotch.
  5. Aerosol acrylic paint (black).
  6. Primer Adhesion OTEX AKVA (Ticcurila). 1 bank. This water-based primer, so odorless. It is used for difficult surfaces, which paint does not lie down and does not hold. It is she who finish must bind chipboard and paint.
  7. Acrylic paint or enamel. 2 banks. I chose Escaro (acrylic paint for furniture, Estonian production). At first I wanted Helmi (ticcurila), but it was necessary to go far. Alkid enamel can also be suitable, but it is therefore smelling on a solvent, and the painting is not fast. In general, any is not the cheapest, high-quality acrylic paint. On my Estonian was directly indicated "for furniture." I liked her, I can safely recommend.
  8. New handles for furniture. I ordered an aliexpress of 80 rubles. thing.
  9. Sandpaper (skin), with grain 320. Those. Very small. 3-4 sheets.
  10. Rags.
  11. Degreaser. Conveniently with a spray nozzle. You can, of course, to walk the usual White spirit, but the smell of a murderous. The degreaser smells significantly less. The remains can also come in handy: perfectly remove the label, mirror or glass, which is no longer taken and the divorce remains stubbornly))).
  12. Polyethylene to protect the floor and place color.
  13. Screwdriver Set.

Order of work:

Cupboard.

Stage 1.

I removed extra things from the closet, I didn't clean it all (somehow I wanted to move in the apartment more or less free), just shook them deeper and covered with polyethylene.
Reassed the handles. Removed doors with loops.

At first I wanted to paint like that without removing the doors, then I realized that it would be inconvenient. Therefore, risked ... and removed. It turned out not difficult. True, experiences about how to wear them back, attended until the last moment. In the end, screwed up too, patience was not enough to wait for her husband))).
Pulled out built-in lamps and in suspended state wrapped them with painting scotch.
By the same scotch, the walls on the sides of the cabinet, the floor, mirrors on the doors.
Prepared workplace. Collectively decided ... on the bed)))! Closed it carefully polyethylene. And never regretted this choice. The bed is big and high, everything was placed, leaning and crawling on all fours it was not necessary. Prepared approximately equal stacks of books, wrapped them with a food film. They are needed as substrates so that the doors lift and paint as it were for weight, painted edges will not touch with a smooth surface.

Stage 2.

Slissed all the surfaces that need to be painted. It is necessary to hide a slightly, without fanaticism, the smallest sandpaper. Light circular movements. Purpose: Create a roughness without removing the laminated layer. If there are dents and scratches, then at this stage they must be sharpened. After the skin thoroughly wipe all the surfaces with a degreaser. It will remove the dirt, fat traces, all that can break the grip with primer and paint.

3 stage.

Primer. Inaccessible places Passed brush, the rest is roller. The thick layer is absolutely not needed, the soil must be covered without drows and a thin layer. The uneven color is not terrible, but there should be no passages. Rotan inserts did not force, paint and so on them goes well.

4 stage.

This is the main part - the work of paint. It is necessary to paint in two layers. Roller be sure to roll back on the tray to remove the surplus paint. Better more thin layers than one with drips. Difficult places crossed the tassel. The inner part of the cabinet decided not to paint, but since it was necessary to "marry" with the outside side, then the outer ends of the shelves and the facades of the drawers were punished.

It is easy to paint them - just roll back with a roller, a brush is more difficult to get out of the edges. Ogrechi immediately wipe the rag. Each layer dried out, as the manufacturer recommends, "on the low" acrylic dries in an hour and, in principle, you can carefully turn and paint the door on the other side.

5 stage.

Collected a wardrobe. Screwd the door and handles. I removed the painter tape and everything was cleaned. The doors first planned two days to hold open, was afraid that they would fit. Nothing like this - you can immediately close.

Chest of drawers.

Pulled out drawers. It fenced the painted surface with painting scotch. Since the dresser was already painted, it did not force him, just slightly speckled and passed the degreaser. Painted already faster, stumbled and did not wait for the laid time to apply the second layer. The first millet (somewhere hour) and immediately the second. As a result, everything is fine.
The handles did not buy new, repainted with black aerosol acrylic paint from the balonchor.

Mirror.

The mirror was covered with white acrylic paint, it was in stock, and slightly patted (aged) with a dry brush with silver paint.

Important! Acrylic paints Quite quickly dries "on the low", but polymerizes at least a month, the process with a primer can go even longer. The painted product almost immediately (and it is still better to wait 2 days) you can use and even wipe off with a damp cloth. But within a month, the coating remains very wounded, it is necessary to handle it carefully, not scratching and not rub with effort. If the shelves are painted or horizontal surfaces, then they are better not to put things at once that can "stick up", wait until the paint "gets up". Although I immediately put everything I needed everything that I needed, nothing was hung).

Well ... work time-consuming, but the result pleased me. Painting in the end looks no worse than factory, traces of the brush is not visible. It keeps well too. Scratching did not try, I use furniture as usual. And usually I do not scratch it))). Although after a month the experiment will spend. The room is pretty updated). Alas, photos after compression leaves much to be desired, in fact, the color is brighter and cleaner, but it is not so important.

If there is a desire to alter the furniture, too, questions, write - I will answer. And if someone such a remake seems difficult, I assure it, it is not so laborious - yes, but quite feasible without any experience. It is possible to start with the inner minority parts, or with small furniture, stool, for example. By time, the alteration took three days. At the same time, I had time to cook and ... to hurt bronchitis + after the gypsum still slightly lame leg. "Malas disabled" was able to paint, then you can))).

MDF panel is construction materialdesigned for finish finish Premises, facing facades of cabinet furniture or walls, it is made of low or medium thick chips from wood chips. Details are considered an environmentally friendly element of the finish, since synthetic adhesives are not used during their manufacture, and the natural wood resin is used, which reliably fixes all the layers of the product and forms a single integer. The MDF panels have an average and low density, depending on the number of layers and wood composition. Over time, during the operation of these parts, their surface can get scratches, the coating loses the gloss or has defects, as a result, the integrity of the entire panel is violated, and the appearance of the entire finish becomes unsightly. In this case, any owner faces the question: how to update the facade of the panel without changing them completely?

MDF panels on the wall

This article discusses the possibility of painting such products as wall panels MDF, can I paint the MDF, as well as the process of conducting such work at home.

There are a number of reasons for which the painting of MDF panels may be needed, they include:

  1. Mechanical surface damage as a result of hitting a sharp object or other material. The top layer of the MDF panel consists of laminated or simple paper with paint applied to it, when exposed to it a solid object, a film is rupture, which shaves the core of the entire product;
  2. Burning paint, loss of color brightness. This deformation is obtained from the effects of ultraviolet rays and atmospheric air, which contains a small amount of moisture. Over time, the coating becomes matte, loses shine and initial look;
  3. The temperature differences also negatively affect the outer state of the MDF panel surface, since the internal structure consists of wood, which absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and is inflated throughout the area. During the increase in the temperature of the MDF dries and at the same time can crack, besides the glue contained in the panel, the moisture loses its abilities, which leads to detachment of paper, lamination and chips.

MDF and Water

These causes of deformations lead to an unsightly view of the entire surface and violate the overall wall design. In the event of these defects, you can paint the MDF panels, after having done a number of preparatory procedures, but it is worth understanding that the painting of the parts with their own hands at home brings a result that differs from paint processing in production.

The process of painting MDF panels

Before answering the question, how to paint the MDF panels, you need to figure out the composition of this product. The MDF plate, wall or facade, consists of several layers of compressed paper and sawdust, laminated with transparent or color film from the front side. Most often, it is the top layer who is damaged and wear, so when planning, update the MDF should be prepared the specified types of coatings.

In order to prepare the MDF panel at home, you will need:

  1. Sandpaper to prepare the surface and removal of gloss or varnish;
  2. Solvent for degreasing the surface from glue and liquid residues;
  3. Dry rag or other fabric without a pile.

These materials are necessary for pre-processing MDF panels under painting and sealing cracks and scratches on the laminate.

Printing MDF panel

All work should be carried out in accordance with the algorithm of actions. At the first stage, it is necessary to stick the panel with grinding paper with a shallow fraction, this can be done manually or using a pneumatic tool. It is important to comply with lacquer removal technology, prevent overheating of the surface or the formation of large rinks on the laminate. A fibustarity surface is under a decorative film, so when sanding it is necessary to closely monitor the thickness of the upper layer so as not to erase it through. After this procedure, the coating will stop glistening and will become rough, slightly looting.

Next, you need to clean all the cracks and chips from dirt and dust, and also clean their edges. All irregularities, if necessary, are maintained by a special putty, which forms a single whole with the basis of the panel, it should also be aligned with sandpaper.

After the surface is processed and aligned, it is necessary to wipe it with a dry cloth and degrease the chemical solvent, which displaces and evaporate all the water, wash dust and dirt.

At the next stage, the top coating of special paint is carried out, it has a grainy texture and can be applied using compressed air or a simple tassel. It can cover the surface into several layers, with intermediate grinding, until the required smoothness is reached.

Next, the main paint is prepared, and it is mixed and thoroughly mixed so that all the elements are mixed with each other. You can paint the paint panel of the MDF, manually or a special pneumatic gun, but this requires compressor installation and moisture-water separator. The composition is applied with smooth movements in two layers: the first - across the main direction, the second - along the entire length of the part. Thus, the formation of inclusions and inks of paint is prevented.

The final step will be the processing of the upper paper-wood layer of the panel with a transparent varnish. This procedure is not required, but after it is carried out by the MDF surface, the product becomes a glossy, its upper layer seems to be updated, and the appearance of the entire structure is restored.

For your information. It is important to observe the intervals of the drying of the elements between the layers of the soil, paint and varnish, since otherwise they will be folded and cracking, they will have to carry out all the work.

How to paint and update MDF panels

For MDF panels, you can use an alkyd or acrylic enamel, but when choosing paint it is worth considering the type of primer, the operating conditions of the panels, as well as the composition of the upper layer. If it is laminated paper with a synthetic, weakly absorbent film, then it will be advisable to use acrylic or water-dispersion enamel. These materials are environmentally friendly and perfectly suitable for interior painting indoors, while the surface of the panel will be updated, as well as additionally protected from moisture of the aggressive external environment.

Thus, when compliance with the entire staining technology, it is possible to paint the MDF panels, it becomes completely solved at home.

Video

Is it possible to paint the MDF panels or facades? Such a process is possible. But he requires compliance certain conditionsfolding from the choice of materials preparatory work, main stages and final strokes. Painting MDF panels - the task that every one can do. The only thing that is important to consider is not all the paints are suitable for this purpose, but those that are suitable are not suiced.

Pros and cons painting MDF

MDF painting is most often for two reasons:

  • the need to protect material from negative environmental factors;
  • decorative goal - I want to change the color of the MDF plate or improve its appearance.

Regardless of the cause of painting, it has several advantages:

  • The painted element becomes resistant to high temperatures. This means that when using the MDF panel in the kitchen, it will be possible to put hot dishes on it.
  • Presence in paint special additives allows you to get facades original design: Pearl, pearls, metallic.
  • As a rule, paints intended for MDF do not have harmful chemicals in their composition. This is a big plus, especially if the material staining is planned to be carried out at home.
  • And finally, painting products allows you to significantly extend their service life.

Of course, the coloring of the MDF is not devoid of deficiencies, from which the following can be distinguished:

  • high price, compared with film coating;
  • the ability to burn out the color under direct exposure to sunlight.

What materials use?

Since MDF is a material that consists of wood fibers, it can be painted with conventional wood paints. However, to get a really high-quality result and uniform staining, you will need special compositions, including:

  • polyurethane-based primer;
  • paint (also polyurethane);
  • varnish for MDF (if necessary).

Polyurethane enamel does not have volatile components in its composition, it can be used both for internal and outdoor work.

Staining technology

The process of coloring MDF with colored polyurethane enamels includes several stages:

  • grinding;
  • primer;
  • directly painting;
  • drying.

Grinding

For good adhesion of the paintwork, it is necessary to polish the processed products, be it facades or wall panels. To do this is used:

  • dry sandpaper;
  • scotch-Bright is a soft abrasive of small graininess;
  • grinding machines under ground.

If the product is small, then the sandpaper on the foam-based gradation of the P220-P280 is used.
For flat surfaces, 700 series grinding mats are used with fine-grained abrasive. The same materials will help remove the surplus of the soil, fill risks before painting.

This surface is preparing, directly to which paint will be applied. After stripping, the surface needs to be deguted with antisilicone.

Shpaklevka

MDF is preparing for painting carefully, here alone is not separated by grinding. If there are visible flaws (cracks, dents), the surface in these areas should be sharpened, thereby align the surface.

An acrylic putty for the tree is best suited for shtclosure, to apply and smooth it with a special rubber spatula.

Primer

For flat products it is better to use a universal white polyurethane soil LBR30. The content in it of a large amount of resin gives a minimal tendency to shrink. Suitable for matte and glossy finish. For the latter, where each defect is visible on the surface, the requirements for the preparation of the order is higher. The best result gives the use of polyester soils.

Before painting the panel, you need to prepare them thoroughly. Originally make a working mixture. For this you need to take:

  • lBR 30 - 100 weights soil;
  • hardener LNB 77 - 40 weight parts;
  • diluent LZC 1051 - 10 weight parts.

All of these components need to be mixed between themselves and apply the first layer of soil into the stained surface with a gun with a top tank. The diameter of the nozzle is 1.8 mm, air pressure is 2-3 atmosphere. The material consumption must be 120 g per 1 m2. The optimal thickness of the resulting film 120 microns. So that the shrinkage process completely completed, the soil should be dried within 12 hours.

Before painting the product, it will need to once again handle abrasive. For gloss, an emery tool with smaller grain is used. After that, the surface will be prepared, and you can apply paint for MDF panels.

On video: primer and grinding MDF.

Painting

Painting the wall panels can be tasted, roller or paint. The room temperature should be about + 20 ° C, air humidity - in the range of 50-80%. You can paint matte or glossy enamel. But initially you need to prepare work formulations. For matte enamel take:

  • 100 weights of enamel;
  • 50 weights of the hardener;
  • 30 weight parts of the diluent.

For glossy enamel, 70 pieces of the hardener are taken. The remaining components in the same quantity. For gloss, you should always use a slow diluent, which will provide good spreading.

Painting MDF panels should be made in a relatively spacious room, if it is internal structures (for example, facades or wall elements). The house from the outside should be fermented in the warm season. Emality consumption should be approximately 150g / m2. Fiberglass stove of medium density or MDF completely dries in 24 hours.

To obtain a gloss, polishing should be performed after 3 days. By this time, all polymerization processes will be completed. With the help of special additives on the surface of the product, you can create the effects of pearl, metallic, obtain corrugated waves.

Wet

You can paint the MDF panels alkyd or polyurethane enamel, as well as powder mixtures. Wet technology implies the use of a sprayer with appropriate pressure. If the paint is applied in two layers, intermediate grinding is necessary. The thickness of the layers is not more than 120 microns.

Coloring surfaces should be free from small garbage, dust, insects. In the case of their hit, it is necessary to eliminate in a timely manner, using the T-type Tool. The flowing surfaces formed on the painted surface after drying are eliminated by the stationery knife or emery fine-grained paper.

Powder

Is it possible to paint the MDF in a different way? Yes, there are special powder mixtures that are applied to the working surface with a sprayer. After that, the product is subjected to high temperatures until the paint is completely melted. This method provides for the preparation of a practically perfect smooth surface.

The technology of powder staining involves sputtering dry microscopic particles to the surface.

Drying

Painting MDF panels can be any method. Completes any technological process of decoration drying. It is carried out in compliance with some conditions:

  • air ambient air no more than 50 ° C;
  • relative humidity less than 80%.

The duration of the final stage depends on the conditions of the environment. It can be from 5 hours to days. The painted MDF plate will dry faster at lower temperature and humidity indicators.

No matter what you can paint wall panels, compliance with stages, conditions technological process allow you to get a saturated color, smooth surface, Save time, costs. It is better to automate all the work using special paint equipment for this.

How to paint MDF (2 video)

What will take for work (20 photos)

Painting MDF plates is a very time-consuming procedure that will require compliance with technology and a variety of rules. Immediately it is worth noting that such work is stretched for a long time, not one week may take place. In any case, everything can be done independently, while getting the necessary decorative surface.

Why do it?

Many wonder: is it possible to paint the MDF at home, and why is it necessary? The first part of the question will be affirmative. Indeed, you can paint the panel with your own hands. But you should immediately make a reservation: if there is no paint chamberThe result is not always perfect. And the coloring procedure is necessary for the following reasons:

  1. Covered paint elements become more resistant to high temperatures and humidity. Therefore, they are allowed to be used in the kitchen and in the bathroom, where they can perform various roles.
  2. By decorating, it is possible to diversify the dull interior, refresh the look of the room. The shade is chosen on the basis of the designer ideas.
  3. Painting panels from MDF is also needed in order to extend their service life.

Painting MDF allows not only to diversify the boring interior, but also to extend the life of the product

Of course, this option has some drawbacks. For example, this procedure is sometimes much more expensive than the use of decorative films. In addition, the surface becomes prone to fading.

Choosing materials for staining

In principle, all paints for MDF are selected taking into account the composition of the material. And this is, first of all, a small wood fraction, which means that paint solutions for wood are suitable for work. But to get really high-quality coating It is advisable to apply special mixtures.

When choosing materials for painting MDFs, it is worth paying attention not only to color, but also the purpose of the paint

Polyurethane enamel

To give preference to this material follows for the following reasons:

  • The coating is obtained by wear-resistant, withstanding the effects of household chemicals.
  • The solution has no unpleasant odorWhat allows you to carry out work in cramped home conditions.
  • The mixture is allowed using a sprayer, roller and tassels.
  • Painting MDF enamel is made independently, such a procedure does not require professional skills.

Naturally, choosing this material, pay attention to the manufacturer. It should be a well-known brand that is sold in specialized stores. By purchasing the goods of an unknown manufacturer, the likelihood of getting fake is great.

Tip! If there is no possibility to choose a polyurethane composition, then pay attention to alkyd enamels and paints (oil and acrylic).

Choosing paint, you need to pay attention to the manufacturer

Thus, the question of how to paint the MDF panel is no longer a problem. But another dilemma occurs - the surface needs additional defense, How can I do that?

Indeed, to increase the resistance to mechanical effects, protect against chemical compounds - use varnish. And for such a work, a two-component polyurethane composition, which possesses all the desired parameters is especially well suited.

Painting Stages and Technology

The procedure for painting MDF with their own hands is carried out in several stages. They can be divided as follows:

  1. Grinding.
  2. Putty.
  3. Padding.
  4. Staining.
  5. Lacrification (patination).

Execution of each stage - serves as a key to the fact that the result is as conceived.

Grinding

Work begin with surface grinding. This is a rather time-consuming event that needs to be accurately.

The panels are grouped by sandpaper with grainy from 120 to 240 units. The process is performed in several stages and different materials. It is necessary to do everything very carefully, without lingering for a long time in one site. This procedure is carried out in order to remove small irregularities, as well as remove a small pile that is covered with the entire surface.

MDF grinding procedure allows you to get rid of small irregularities on the surface of the plate

On a note! If there are milling sites on the front side, they are better not to touch them. The likelihood is the likely that sandpaper is smoothing the angles of the pattern.

Shpalian

The film of the MDF under painting is aiming a goal - to correct the existing flaws of the panel. It happens that when grinding or due to improper storage, cracks or dents appear on the surface. To hide them, put a shit. Of course, if there are no such problems, then this stage is missing.

The technology itself looks like this: the acrylic mixture is neatly applied to the desired area and leveled with a rubber spatula. After drying, it is defined.

Padding

The priming of the surface of the MDF plate is better to perform with the help of a collapse, then the primer layer falls uniformly

This stage is mandatory. It is conventionally divided into two processes:

  • Application of the first layer of primer
    • This is done with the help of spray, so you prepare the room and place to work. It is better to close the remaining items with cellophane film.
    • The mixture is sprayed over the entire surface of the panel with a uniform layer. This is done in order to raise the remaining pile and reduce the absorption of basic materials.
    • Next, when the stove dries off, it is subjected to grinding with shallow sandpaper.
  • Coating by the second layer
    • The second layer is applied to secure the result and remove the remaining flaws.
    • Drying should take about a day, after which, painted with the primer panel is stuffed.

Coloring

Is it possible to paint the MDF with a brush and roller? Yes, but it should be done very carefully. The likelihood is great that there will be divorces and drows on the surface. Therefore, it is best to use the paintopult.

The technology itself resembles priming. The paint is applied in several layers, each of which is pre-dried. It is important to achieve an excellent result, so the mixture is starting to spray from millillated areas to the edges, and then pass along and diagonally. Much more convenient to paint the smooth panels.

For painting MDF, you can use brushes and rollers, but to obtain a uniform layer it is better to use the paintopult

On a note! In order to understand the time of drying out the solution and its quantity in detail, it is necessary to carefully examine the manufacturer's instructions. And also choose for a sprayer right mode Work.

If you want under the old

If a desire appears to give the surface a more expressive appearance, it is a bit of it, then resort to patination. It is advisable to do when there are pictures and patterns.

The patina is applied in this way:

  • at the selected area, a sponge dipped in the mixture is passed;
  • leave until complete drying;
  • painted plot of grinding;
  • embed to the end stage.

The effect of artificial formation can be created independently, resorting to the patination of the surface.

Lakovka

The procedure is performed according to the instructions:

  1. Varnish prepare for use.
  2. The first layer is applied at the rate of about 150 grams per square meter.
  3. Having waited when the first layer will dry well, impose a new layer.
  4. Repeat the drying process.
  5. Start the final grinding. First, on the surface passes sandpaper with large grain, then use smaller. To avoid rolling lumps, the site is sprayed with water.
  6. The panel is left for several days (from 4 to 7) and are polished. To do this, it is better to apply the power tool.

The surface preparation process includes the following steps:

  1. First, the products are processed by sandpaper to create a rough surface. If there are large scratches, the cracks should be filled with putting on a tree, then sanding once again to eliminate the irregularities and differences. The main goal of such processing is to eliminate smoothness, which negatively affects adhesion.
