Ignition backlight. Illumination of the ignition switch, do it yourself

Surely you know that they are equipped with an illuminated ignition lock. This is a very convenient function that allows you to turn the ignition key without any problems, even in the dark. Therefore, many drivers want to equip their car with lighting. This is especially true for owners. We know how to make the ignition switch illumination with our own hands.

Such a device is very convenient, although it seems useless to some. Of course, even in the evening you can easily get into the ignition with the key if there is a salon light. But after all, in many domestic machines, the light may not work. Therefore, the backlight plays an important role, especially for those cars in which an alarm system is installed with a delayed turning on of the cabin light after disarming. In addition, every time you open the door, you will feel like the owner of a foreign car.

LED illumination

The best software option is to install LED illumination. It is very important to keep color range, in which the car interior is made. If you make the backlight in the same shade as the other glowing elements, the effect will be simply fabulous.

Of course, there is a standard backlight, which is an ordinary light bulb. Its glow is directed directly into the cylinder of the ignition lock. However, such a device is inconspicuous and does not look very aesthetically pleasing. The LED backlight looks much better. In fact, to create it, you just need to replace a standard light bulb with an LED. However, such a substitution will not bring you the desired result. A more modern and attractive option is the ring-shaped lighting. We will teach you how to do it.

Those who do not know how to make the ignition switch backlight can find the answer to this question in our article. We will tell you how to create such a device from available tools. So, the first thing you need to do is go to the store for all the necessary components.

Required materials and tools

You will need the following accessories and tools:

  • LEDs (or LED strip) - 3 pieces or more;
  • epoxy or other instant glue;
  • a soldering iron with all the necessary accessories (rosin, solder, tin);
  • thin drill;
  • resistor (1 kOhm);
  • plexiglass.

Having bought everything you need, you can start work on installing the backlight. If you do not know Plexiglas, contact a company that sells materials for advertising. Typically, it is used to create billboards. The cost of plexiglass is about 200 rubles per kilogram.

The video shows how to connect the ignition switch backlight:

Backlighting instructions

First, you need to completely disassemble the skin and remove the ignition switch. Using a soldering iron, attach the resistor to the LEDs. Next, you need to solder two wires to the corresponding poles of the LEDs.

Now take plexiglass and cut out a round ring of the required diameter from it. You need to make a small hole in the center. Use a thin drill to make several holes in the end of the ring. LEDs will be installed in them. If the plexiglass is thin, we recommend fixing the LEDs using silicone or superglue.

If you use LED strip, you do not need to drill holes in the end of the plexiglass. It is enough to drill a small hole in the lock body. Then its sides will allow you to securely fix the tape.

After collecting all the lighting parts, carefully check your fixture. Do not immediately put the lock in place. First, create and try to achieve. If necessary, make the back of the plexiglass matte to achieve an even glow.

So that later you do not have to re-disassemble the structure - first make sure that the backlight is working properly and the plexiglass does not dangle. After that, you just need to connect and insulate all the parts, and then assemble them in the reverse order. Since the illumination of the ignition lock should light up from the opening of the car doors and go out after they are closed, it is necessary to connect it to the interior lamp. Using the plafond power supply, bring the illumination to a place where it is more convenient for you - for example, to the left pillar. The result is that when and when the door is opened, the backlight comes on, and when the engine is turned on and the alarm is set, it goes out.

The video shows what the ignition switch backlight looks like:

Plastic bottle backlight ring

Let's consider another, more unusual way of creating a light ring. The main part you will need is a wide-necked plastic bottle (for juice or milk). There is a place on the neck of such a bottle where the cap is attached. We need a blank in the form of a ring with 2 sides of different diameters.

The original ring size is slightly smaller than the ignition switch cap, but this can be corrected. Take a beer bottle and put a protective ring from a plastic product on its neck. Draw a circle on the bottom of the bottle. It will act as a border along which you need to expand the part.

Now cut off the throat plastic bottle... We'll need it later. Heat the beer bottle evenly using a hair dryer or. We recommend that you protect your eyes with glasses. Then put the blank-ring on the neck and advance to the drawn line. Use another plastic bottle for this, as the glass will be hot. Just string it on top while advancing the ring.

The plastic ring will heat up and stretch to the required size. Let it freeze as when exposed high temperature the material becomes plastic. Then it can be removed and slightly heated again - then it easily sits on the ignition switch.

In principle, the backlight ring can also be made of other materials. For example, fiber optic wire is perfect. You can purchase it from a store that offers networking equipment. Instead of plexiglass, you can also use a regular jar lid by cutting a ring out of it.

You will see for yourself that the illuminated ignition lock looks more attractive and respectable. It is also very convenient. Now you will not need to look for the hole by touch to turn the key in it. In addition, making your own ignition switch illumination ring is a decent amount of money. such a device costs several thousand rubles. And lighting with your own hands will cost you cheap and angry.

Hello everyone.)
"Who got the idea to make their dream come true" - please, my next FAQ.
Today we will take an example of how sometimes there is nothing to do, you bother, overcome your laziness and stir up something like that, everything is just to be pleasant to the eye.)) You probably noticed that in our little car, namely in the castle ignition, there is a transparent ring that would glow nicely, with a certain supply of light to it! Exactly - we muddy the backlight into the ignition lock.
A trifle, but nice. :-)

For this we need:
- Shaped screwdriver (large)
- 12V diode (preferably a dissipative type)
- Soldering iron ≤ 40 W.
- Wiring (any section, since the current and voltage are minimal)
- Insulating tape + lighter (you can heat shrink)
- Stationery or ordinary knife (if necessary)
- "Straight arms" (we are dealing with plastic clips / latches)
- Patience (hard work)
- From an hour to 3 free time

Let's start.

We turn off 5 bolts under the steering column torpedo.

Actually, in our car, everything is thought out for the convenience of the user, well, almost.)) Yes, not everything is particularly embodied in reality ...

After we have loosened the protective panels of the steering column, proceed to their removal. The top panel is removed first. We just gently pull it up, watching the release of the side latches.
P. S .: When you perform these actions, two fastening rings of the ignition lock - external and internal - will be released. They will easily fall out, we remove them to the side, remembering their location before.

To remove bottom panel, we need to work a little, not much. First, we need to flip down the "rudder lever".
Attention! When replacing / replacing this panel, do not push this lever in the place shown in the figure. For some reason, this happens automatically. Remember its location right away. There is nothing difficult here. :-)

Next, we release it from the ignition lock itself as shown in the figure. Pull slightly to the right (1), then pull down (2). Then she will calmly free herself and take off without difficulty.

Before us is the ignition lock itself in a "naked" form, where we saw something with a smile on our face. No, this is not something that could be thought with a perverted imagination.)) For us, the manufacturer himself has ALREADY prepared a place for lighting the ignition switch. :-) It is shown in the picture. Almost like a plinth!

And so, as we already understand, there is little left to do. ;-) We now need to install a light bulb, or best of all - a 12V diode. Such as in size. =)
P. S .: The choice of diode is yours. I had a pair of whites and one blue. The choice fell on blue, since the whites did not really shine. And the illumination in my legs is implemented in blue. :-)

And so, then we need to somehow attach the wiring to the diode, and best of all - solder it, for a more reliable fixation.

Then we try on the diode in the "base of the ignition switch". This is how it will look roughly:

Cut out if necessary larger hole in the "base" for the diode installation. Which is what I had to do to secure it.
P. S .: It would be nice to remove this "base" and do everything somewhere in a more convenient place than right to our place. But, trying to remove it, we, as it seems to me, damage the copper winding of the key chip check (it is very clearly visible in the 5th picture of this post). That this is extremely not worth doing !!!

Note from the user "P.r.o.drive": "... And from the point of view fire safety, the soldering had to be closed with a heat shrink wrap, just putting it on the blue base of the diode. And then the body of the lock and bare soldering. It's good if you connected a minus from the side that is closer to the metal, but what if it's the other way around?

Actually, we have already installed the diode in our place designated by the manufacturer.
P. S .: It is not necessary to open the top / front cover of the "plinth". This is for clarity. But still, to be sure that the diode has become exactly and has not hooked anything, it is worth it. This is done simply:
1. From both ends of the "base" we pry with something sharp and fix this position with our fingers.
2. Move the "main ring of the ignition switch" a little and release the cover towards you.
Everything can be seen in the figure. She's just holding on to this ring. But this is all done at will, it is not necessary to do this.

Next, we are connecting the backlight. Here our opinions and desires may differ. You can implement it as you like - from the position of the key in the ACC, from the timer power circuit, from the timer power circuit when the door is opened, and just when the door is opened, etc. I did it simply - by throwing it on the cigarette lighter, knowing that it turns on when the key is in ON, that is, when power is supplied to the on-board periphery of the car.
Although it was still worth implementing according to the 3rd option ... But I do not have such a schematic. It takes much more complicated things to do it.

To implement the connection through the cigarette lighter, we need to remove the front panel of our auto console (everyone probably knows how it is removed and it will not be difficult to find it in the open spaces of the Russian Internet. Therefore, we will not write about this for the 500th time, and in case of questions and your perseverance, I can either advise you, or make a separate post on this topic).
There we have enough cigarette lighter wires to go to them.

After cutting off the casing (we just make a circular cut and pull it to the terminal) on the wiring, we see the cigarette lighter wires themselves. Accordingly, it is not difficult to figure out where is the minus and where is the plus.)) But the main thing in our business is the polarity of the diode! Do not forget about this, friends. He is very moody about this. Therefore, having thrown in the wires, we immediately check its work.
P. S .: For me, as you can see, the polarity turned out to be reversed.)) It's okay.

Then we isolate it all, burn it and move it away. protective cover into place. :-)

That's all. =) Putting everything together in reverse order, putting everything in its place. =)
P. S .: Do not forget about the last two rings, which were removed from the ignition switch at the beginning of our installation. They are placed at the end, but before tightening the bolts. :-)

Here is the result. It is hard to see it here, all the instructions were conducted exclusively on the camera of my old Nokia. But still ... "A trifle, but nice!" ^ _ ^

I have long been interested in a strange pattern - good ideas and correct thoughts pass only into the heads of foreign engineers and car manufacturers ... You ask why I think so - I will answer with a question: why all the know-how and small useful inventions such as ignition lock lights, a rear view camera, interior handles in the cabin, heated seats, power windows have their roots over the hill, and not to our would-be engineers who have been working for the good of their homeland for so many years? Could it be the climate or the peculiarities of the brain? No, it seems to me that the point is in ourselves. We are initially accustomed to difficulties and inconveniences, we are less demanding on the concept of "comfort", therefore we do not feel any discomfort from a cold seat, or from a handle, which must still be looked for in the dark.

In my article today, I want to talk about the lighting of the ignition switch, about how to make such a tuning yourself, using simple materials at hand.

I wanted to correct this shortcoming on the very day when I first saw how convenient and simple the solution to this problem looks in foreign cars. After thinking a little, I chose the option using LEDs and plexiglass. Ignition lock VAZ in this case will become a guinea pig, since I conducted my experiments on it. The main task in my case it was - make the ignition switch illumination to match the color scheme of the illumination of the entire cabin, in other words, I selected the LED of the same color as the light inside the cabin.

After wandering around the Internet a little, I decided on a specific option. The backlight of the ignition lock looks great in this interpretation, and, in my opinion, practically does not differ from the original factory versions.

Materials and tools that are necessary in order to make the illumination of the VAZ ignition lock with your own hands:

  1. LEDs 3 pcs. or more, you can also use LED strip.
  2. Epoxy Glue Go Super Glue.
  3. A good soldering iron with all the accessories: rosin, solder, tin.
  4. 1k ohm resistor.
  5. Plexiglass.

If you have everything you need, you can begin to ennoble the ignition lock with a backlight.

How to make the ignition switch illumination - instructions.

  1. Completely disassemble the steering column trim and remove the ignition switch.
  2. Take a soldering iron and solder the resistor to the LEDs.

2. Solder two wires of different colors to the poles of the LEDs.

3. Next, cut out a round ring of the required diameter from the plexiglass.

4. Make a hole in the center.

5. Use a thin drill to drill the required number of holes in the end of the plexiglass ring, into which you will later install the LEDs. If the plexiglass is too thin, you can try to fix the LEDs, for example, with glue or silicone.

6. In the case of the LED strip, there is no need to drill the ends of the plexiglass, you just need to drill a hole in the lock case so that its sides can reliably fix the tape.

7. After everything is assembled, perform a check. There is no need to rush to put everything in place at once, create darkness and try to achieve a uniform glow, the light should be evenly scattered. If necessary, make the back of the plexiglass matte, then the light will be better diffused over the surface.

8. In order not to have to disassemble everything in a new way, make sure that ignition switch illumination works fine, and the plexiglass is tightly installed and does not dangle.

9. That's all, now it remains to connect everything, insulate and assemble in the reverse order.

As you can see from the photo ignition lock VAZ backlit looks much more attractive, moreover, now you do not have to look for a keyhole to insert the key. The issue price is less than 50 rubles. By the way, buying an original ignition switch illumination in a car shop would cost you more than one thousand rubles, but it is cheap and cheerful, but it looks like a million, besides, experience is priceless!

Owners of the classic VAZ can make an illumination of the ignition lock in their car.

The part necessary for this is literally lying underfoot.

Take a plastic milk or fruit juice bottle.

Photo 1. Plastic bottle with a wide neck

On its neck there is a place where the cap is fixed. The part blank is a ring with two collars of different diameters.

The original ring is slightly smaller than the ignition switch cap, but this drawback can be overcome.

I did this. We take a beer bottle with a tapered neck. We put a ring on the neck that remains on the bottle after twisting the cork.

Draw a circle on the underside of the ring on the beer bottle with a felt-tip pen. This will be the border to which we need to expand our part.

Photo 2. Marking

We cut off the neck part from the plastic bottle, you can immediately cut off the necessary fragment, but you can do it later.

Photo 3. On the right - the backlight ring is cut off.

We warm a beer bottle with a hairdryer or, like me, on gas stove... Just in case, I recommend protecting your eyes with a mask or goggles, and your hands with gloves. We heat the bottle evenly, i.e. not only the neck, but also part of the flask.

We put the blank on the neck and advance it to the drawn circle.

Since it is not very convenient to do this with your hands, we use a second plastic bottle.

Photo 4. We use the second bottle. The lower collar is on the circumference. The blank of the part is cut off with a margin.

If the temperature is not chosen correctly, the plastic becomes cloudy to a milky white. I did it the second time.

If the ring is removed immediately, it may lose its shape; it is better to try to cut off the necessary part with a sharp knife while it is plastic. But you can wait until it cools completely and then cut it off.

The appearance will depend on the accuracy of the cut. However, the material is junk and you can easily redo everything.

If you have another, for example, a faulty ignition switch, then all the work on fitting the ring can be done immediately, since the diameter and taper of the neck on the beer bottle is slightly different from what is required.

Photo 5 and 6. Ignition lock of VAZ classics

We warm the ring a little again, and it sits perfectly on the lock. In a garage, I used the warm air coming from a heated soldering iron.

Photo 7. Assembly sketch.

Under the casing of the steering shaft and the ignition lock, we install an LED (we read about the connection of LEDs on the network) or several, of the desired color, we connect to the "polite light". I took a piece of LED strip. You can use miniature incandescent lamps, only their resource and reliability are undoubtedly lower.

Anyone who disconnects the battery from the "ground" or is not afraid to discharge it while parking can be connected directly at the ignition lock, according to the car's electrical circuit. The backlight will be on constantly, the LEDs consume very little.

The bore hole in the ignition switch cover can be cut slightly, by about 1-1.5 mm. We put on a regular rubber seal on our ring. We try, select the position and number of LEDs.

Now, in an unlit interior, you can easily find the ignition lock of your car.

Ignition lock lighting is a fairly fresh hobby among motorists, and it has not yet gained much popularity. The opinions of car owners about this element differ: someone considers the ignition of the ignition lock useless and uninteresting, while others believe that it can not only bring benefits, but also refresh the interior of the car.

It's easy to predict the outcome of such disputes - everything decides individual preferences... After all, since such a system exists, why not try it, especially considering the fact that there is nothing complicated in the design of the ignition switch illumination.

Advantages of the ignition switch illumination

By and large, the lighting of the ignition lock serves two purposes - strictly rational (lighting the area of the lock at night) and decorative. In most cases, the ignition lock is located in a rather inconvenient place, and even experienced drivers do not always manage to get the key to the right place by touch. This is the practical benefit of backlighting: even in the absence of external lighting, the lock will be clearly visible, and you will not have to look for it blindly.

With convenience, everything is clear, but with the design, everything is a little more complicated: choosing LEDs that are unsuitable in color as a material, you can not only not do better, but also spoil the interior. However, there should not be any particular difficulties with this either, since the color scheme of the interior is usually easy to determine, and it is not difficult to choose a good lighting color.

In some situations, the matter can be simplified to the limit: often in modern cars there is a standard illumination of the ignition lock, made in the form of a light bulb, the light of which is directed directly into the opening of the lock. As a rule, such a design looks mediocre, and it is better to immediately replace it with an LED one.

Creation and installation of illumination of the ignition lock

The most balanced option for arranging the backlight is a structure assembled from LEDs - this is an option from the category of "cheap and cheerful". To put together a general scheme led lighting, a minimum of knowledge and ability to work with a soldering iron will be required.

There are several ways to implement a backlit idea. The simplest of these is to use double-sided tape, with which several diodes are attached to the ignition switch. This design option is unreliable, since after a while the diodes can simply disappear. In addition, from a visual point of view, diodes planted on scotch tape do not look very attractive.

The second method looks a little better. To implement it, it is necessary to drill a certain number of holes in the casing of the ignition switch. Selected diodes are installed in these holes. To ensure their power supply, positive leads are connected to the anodes of the diodes and the power terminal, through which energy is supplied to the standard devices.

In this case, the negative contacts (cathodes) are connected to the corresponding terminal connected to the car body. The installed LEDs will turn on in parallel with the side lighting, and to adjust their brightness, you need to add an additional resistor to the circuit.

There is also a third way to install the backlight, as a result of which the highest quality and most attractive design is obtained - the installation of the ring lighting of the ignition lock. This method differs from the previous ones in complexity and the need to comply with the following work algorithm:

  1. The first step is to remove the steering column trim and dismantle the lock. As a result, it will be possible to easily reach all the necessary points.
  2. Next, a resistor is soldered to the LEDs. The resistor value is selected depending on the operating voltage of the LEDs (for 10-volt LEDs, a 1 kΩ resistor is suitable).
  3. A ring with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the ignition lock is cut from a plexiglass sheet. Using a thin drill, several holes are made in the ring, in which LEDs will be installed later. Working with thin plexiglass, LEDs should be reinforced with silicone or glue.
  4. Instead of individual diodes, you can take an LED strip. In this case, you do not need to drill holes in the ring - one small hole in the lock case will be enough, through which the tape will be fixed.
  5. After assembling the structure, it must be checked for operability. It is not recommended to install the ignition switch immediately: first, you should make sure of the functionality of the backlight and adjust it so that the illumination is uniform.
  6. If everything is assembled correctly and works, then all the elements are reassembled. Since the work is carried out with electrical equipment, all wires must be properly insulated.

It is worth noting that the material for assembly can be not only plexiglass.

For example, there is an alternative lighting scheme for the ignition switch that requires a cut, wide neck from the plastic bottle. There will be no difference in the process of installing the lighting, except that during preparation, the neck will have to be stretched with heat.

Features of the backlight of the ignition switch

Simple illumination of the ignition switch is assembled by hand without any problems, but the owner of the car may want to add some functionality to it. If such considerations have really appeared, then it is worth taking a closer look at the following possibilities:

Video: do-it-yourself illuminated ignition lock

Conclusion

Do-it-yourself ignition lock lighting has several advantages at once: it is both convenient to use, and improves the interior, and the price is low when compared with the schemes offered on the market. With the right approach, installing the backlight will take very little time, and there will be much more benefit from it - and even ardent opponents of such innovations will have to agree with this argument.

Hello everybody! And so, let's start with the fact that I thought and searched for a long time in the Internet how to make the lock illumination in a budgetary way. And then I saw the logbook of a Man named Dani970, he very competently described the whole process, and I decided to try it.
Bought a bottle with a wide mouth

In the garage I found an old motor from a washer barrel, or whatever it is called
Now I will explain why it is needed. We take a small saucepan, pour water into it, and put it all on the stove.
As soon as the water starts to boil, we take the bottle and put it neck down in the water for 1 minute. so that the plastic heats up. After a minute, we take in the other hand the same motor that I wrote about above, and pull the bottle up to the stop of the motor. So the mold is ready for our ignition switch. Let the bottle cool down. And then with a knife or a cloth on metal, cut off the neck of the bottle. and so the form is there, now you need to do the highlighting itself.

As I said, I copy the actions of Dani970 with minor modifications that I encountered during installation. Now we take the money and go to the radio parts store and buy capacitors and a diode.
1. Condenser 16v 10000mf 2pcs.
2. Condenser 16v 4700mf 1pc.
3. Diode IN5819
4. Diode tape 15cm.
About the diode tape, I can immediately say that it is better to find it with a width of 5mm. I put it 10mm wide. and there were problems when installing the ignition on the lock.
Let me explain in more detail about the tape: When installing the rubber seal ring of the ignition lock

this one

Next, I glued a 10mm wide diode strip. And as it turned out, there was no room left on the neck for adjusting the width to the lock itself.
Now about the electrical part: Having bought all the capacitors and the diode

capacitor 16v 4700mph

capacitor 16v 10000mph

We take a soldering iron and we will sing according to this scheme

but I took one whole piece of diode tape 15cm long.

And now everything is dry, everything is ready as it seemed to me for installation.
Having disassembled the protection of the steering column, with a soldering iron I made a slightly larger bore for the sealing gum, its photo is above. But even here everything is not so simple, putting the blank on the ignition switch, it turned out that it was 5 mm higher than the lock itself (the first trick I wrote about the width of the diode tape) and it was impossible to reduce the width since it was not on the neck free space... I will throw off the photo later how it happened.
Catch number two: this is a seat on the lock itself under the cone, and the workpiece had to be adjusted in place with a file with a file. Well, the connection is simple: Plus, we take a constant from the brown wire on the ignition lock through the fuse, and minus from the door button interior lighting when the door is opened, the lock illumination will be on. Well, like all my friends, if I remember anything I will definitely add. Until!

Most modern cars have this option. In addition to the eye-pleasing glow, it makes it easy to find the ignition switch in the dark, especially on those cars for which the delay in turning on the interior lighting is programmed after the alarm is turned off. Most domestic models of machines do not have such an option, therefore, their owners who know how to handle a soldering iron and who are knowledgeable in radio engineering will find information about the manufacture of such a device useful.

Some owners simply purchase a lock with pre-installed lighting, which will incur purchase costs. Other drivers are trying to make the device themselves. The ignition switch illumination may have several various designs... The simplest version of the device is to use a low wattage car light bulb. As a disadvantage of such a device, the not very attractive appearance and one-sided lighting of the switch are noted.

The most widespread are options for devices using colored LEDs or LED strips.

When using LEDs, there can be several options for their application. Use double-sided tape for gluing them, install separate light sources or use it in the form of a tape. Everyone should be warned right away that the use of double-sided tape is the least expensive to manufacture, but also the least advisable for use. You will often have to glue back the fallen off radio parts. Therefore, other options for how the ignition lock illumination is made with your own hands will be considered in more detail.

We use LED strip

Its use attracts drivers by the fact that there is no need to solder an additional resistor to the LED power supply circuit.

The most pleasant option for such a device will be when the backlight matches the color of the car dashboard illumination. If it is not possible to choose a tape with such a color, you will have to use separate LEDs. To determine the required tape length, remove the ignition switch and measure its diameter. You may need 5 to 15 cm of tape.

Important! To avoid a short circuit during work, disconnect the battery.

Such a tape is cut with scissors at special marks, so its length may be less or more than the required length. To connect the product, you need a piece of thin flexible wire, preferably with conductors different colors... This will make it easier to connect the "+" power supply to the ribbon. For soldering, a 25 W soldering iron is used so as not to damage the tape with lighting elements.

Now it remains to do one simple thing, this is to glue the tape in the right place, and the ignition switch illumination is ready for use. When choosing a place for installing the tape, take into account the thickness of the plastic casing of the ignition switch. In some cases, an additional clear plexiglass ring can be used. Connect the power supply from the interior lighting lamps when the doors are opened.

Application of LEDs

The illumination of the ignition lock has the most pleasant appearance when using separate lighting devices, this option is the most difficult to manufacture. Again, the color is matched based on the illumination of the instrument panel. Also, in a radio store, they purchase one 1 kOhm resistor and a piece of heat-shrinkable tube. You will need a small piece of transparent plexiglass with dimensions slightly larger than the diameter of the ignition switch. Its thickness should be greater than the diameter of the LED. You also need a piece of thin stranded copper wire with veins of different colors.

To make the lighting, the lock will have to be dismantled. After that, its outer diameter is measured, which will be the inner diameter of the plastic ring. For external size add about 10 mm, this will be enough to install the LEDs. The thickness of the ring depends on the dimensions of the selected parts. If there is no plate with the required thickness, it can be glued from two sheets.

The dimensions of the ring are transferred to plastic, after which they begin to cut the ring. There are many ways to make a ring from plastic. You can cut it with a jigsaw or use a heated piece of nichrome wire. It depends on the capabilities of the driver who took up the manufacture of such a backlight. The made circle is carefully processed with fine sandpaper. Several holes must be drilled in the ring for the LEDs. Their number can be from 3 or more. They are installed either in the plane of the ring, or in its end. You can make a hole with a drill with a diameter slightly larger than that of the lighting device.

When the holes are ready, the prepared parts are glued into them. It is desirable to install them in such a way that the "+" LED leads are directed in one direction. This will make it easier to connect them. The connection is made in parallel, that is, the “+” pins are connected all together, and the rest are connected to another circuit. A 1 kOhm resistor is soldered to one of the terminals.

A flexible stranded conductor with different colors of conductors is connected to the free terminal of the resistor and the remaining contact of the LEDs. It will make it easier correct connection power supply to the backlight. What else remains to be done? The assembly of the lock and its installation is to be done.

This is how the finished product looks after the final assembly and installation of the lock in its regular place. Connect the lighting to the interior lamps.

If you are tuning the interior of your car, then for you there is another interesting thought about creating LED illumination in the car. In our article you will learn how to make the ignition switch illumination on a VAZ 2110 car. The main thing in this matter is to preserve the color scheme of the entire interior. If you do everything in the same color as the rest of the luminous interior elements, the effect will be just fabulous. Let's take a look at everything possible options installation of this device on the car. The standard illumination of the castle is an Ilyich light bulb shining into the castle larva itself. In appearance, the standard car illumination, well, does not attract attention, we can even say that it scares the eye. The cheapest and in an easy way replacing the lock illumination is a banal replacement of a standard light bulb with an LED, but this procedure will not bring the desired result. In addition, when replacing lamps, you will need to invest a lot of effort to get the job done. There is another, more modern and beautiful option- make the backlight in the form of a ring. If you want to make the castle illumination in the form of a ring, as on many foreign cars of our time, then use what is written here. For work we need:
1. LED strip - one piece (any color of your choice)
2. Resistor 1kOhm - one piece
3. Super glue.
4. Soldering iron.
5. Tin.
6. Rosin.
7. Plexiglas (not thick).

So let's get to work. To replace the backlight, we need to disassemble the entire steering column trim, and then remove the ignition switch. When the place for tuning is ready, we begin to prepare all the materials for work. First, we need to solder a resistor to the LED strip, if one is not available, then you can use single LEDs (available in multiple lighters). Then we solder pieces of wires of different colors to the poles of the LEDs so that next time you can change without the help of a soldering iron. Then we make a plexiglass ring. Next, we drill a hole in the ignition switch housing. The hole in the lock is needed in order to insert the LED strip into it. In the example, you will see that the 15 cm long LED strip can be easily placed inside the lock without creating any problems.

The LED strip is kept inside the lock by the fact that the sides of the lock securely fix it. In order for the light emanating from the LEDs to be diffused, you need to either slightly process the back of the ring, or remove the chamfer that is installed on the ignition lock.

If you do not have plexiglass available, then you can make a ring using a regular can lid, or use a fiber optic wire. Fiber optics can be purchased at any store that specializes in Internet connections. But still, in my opinion, plexiglass is the most the best option... When the LEDs are in place, connect them to a power source and then reassemble all the parts in the opposite direction. Next, turn on the dimensions and enjoy. Everything is ready to use. For this work, nothing was given, 20 rubles, and what an effect.
