Scandinavian thread patterns. Tree-carving from Norway

In Norway, I have already been relatively long ago, but recently, looking through the photos, I found some with a Norwegian carving on a tree, and sometimes with the subsequent painting on the thread, I want to offer you.

Everyone is well acquainted with this folk skill, it was also widespread in Russia. Recall carved furniture, caskets, household items, platbands on the windows, children's toys. But this is our native, which does not seem special.

The place of residence of the nationality certainly has a huge impact on folk crafts, they are visible in their local national flavor. This is something your own, unique that you will not meet anywhere else.

We use the opportunity to compare already known Russian thread motifs with the Norwegian here. And as ancient, so modern. Perhaps there is something in common with the people's fishers of the peoples of the Russian North.

Wood carving in old churches

We visited several vintage wooden churches, outside and inside with intricate artistic threads.

They are called Raving. These are unique churches that were built in 10-13 centuries from logs, there are not a single nail in them.

Remember Russian wooden architecture of the 18th century (much later!)? Kizhi. Something like that here. Vikings built their dragcars (combat ships) in a similar way.

And each of the stakes, where we visited, was naturally the most. One old church in Norway, the other is the smallest, and so on.

Norwegian Church "Stovets" with thread

Surprise well preserved an old carving around the doors. The tree is black, looks like charred. So that it in the harsh climate is preserved longer, the wood was smin.

What surprised is a little - the entrance for visitors to all churches was paid. And the price is decent, 50 - 80 of the Norwegian crowns, mainly 60, i.e. About 6 euros, which seemed to me quite expensive just for an independent visit to a small church without any excursion. But old man ... you need to look.

Previously, such wooden churches had a huge amount, their number was calculated by thousands. The first was built right on Earth, served their service, while after one or two dozen years did not rot. In their place built new ones. Wood clearance increased service life, but not long. Later began to build a church on a stone foundation.

In total, there are completely few such stakes, less than 30 pieces throughout Norway. All of them are not valid. Some have become open-air museums, others moved privately owned. From here, probably such a cost of visiting.

I really liked the national motifs with stylized deer, which usually in the figures are located in pairs, along two, located symmetrically one to another. They are so unusual that attention immediately appeal. There are quite often, on shop windows, walls.

The museum shows how the wooden surface of the sketch is placed as a carving. There is an example where the cut-out motive is already traced below, and only a pencil markup is above.

Norwegian deers are so disguised in a complex pattern that they will not immediately find them. Try going to find them in the picture below among the vessels!

Plane sloping carving with sketches

Interesting examples of the geometric slit wood thread. This is a composition that consists of elements, each of which is entered into a square. As we see, it may be a circle. A drawing is placed next to the frame - the scheme (sketch) for the thread for which work was performed.

The slit carving is characterized by the fact that the figure is performed not only on the surface of the wood, namely, it cuts through. It turns out an openwork pattern. Everything happens on the same plane, so this species is called flat.

It can be called geometric because each detail consists of a centrally symmetric geometric shape, decorated with additionally superficial threads.

On the other hand, glass is inserted, the whole composition can successfully serve as an artistic partition through which the light penetrates on the opposite direction.

Here is one example of a simple geometric drawing of the thread.

The following is the sketch below, which performed a slotted art carving. The scheme looks easier than in the original.

If you are going to do this type of creativity, you can take any contour drawings, patterns, ornaments as a trapath for threads. They can be completely for the other - for example, for embroidery or rickel, drawing and the like.

Modern souvenirs carved from wood

In beetles and shops on the shelves, many souvenirs - choose taste.

What do you can buy the figures here? Clear business, northern animals. These are whales, dolphins, penguins, walles. Many boats, beautifully arched, with sails, resembling the Vikings.

I love a tree very much, probably, first of all, because it natural materialIt is "warm", so always pay attention to wood products.

Drakkar Vikings - Distillary of wood

Walrow - cutting out of wood

There are also Norwegian decorations in the national style - pendants with geometric thread.

Panel of wood with thread

In one of the settlements where we stayed (we spent the night in the so-called huts - wooden houses), I found an interesting picture that decorates the wall of a wooden house outside.

Wood carving - Panel based on Norwegian fairy tales

As far as I remember, there is such a Norwegian fairy tale about three trolls, who had only one eye for two. They kept when walking one behind the other, so as not to be lost, but the eye was transferred to each other.

Two boys of their poor family were at this time in the forest, selected the only eye in the trolls, and returned it only for gold with silver.

Panel is cut out of wood, and then separate parts of it are painted in different colors. Even with such a severe northern climate, paint is well saved.

The same technique is applied to jewelry "Windows", or rather similar to the frame window (bulletin boards), which places information about the nearest important events in this settlement. Used only a few colors - brick-red, dark green and yellow-golden.

A small bonus. Look just wood products that adorn small cozy Norwegian hotels, cafes.

Wall lamp and birch mug with bark and bark.

In the shop, together with a circle, the Wiking Lingerie - bra and panties were sold. But the most noteworthy is that they were sewn from the skins!

Production of table of contents with wood thread for kyot

A similar way was made by table of contents (top) for kyotov in the photo below.
To enlarge the image - click on it.

At first, on paper, in accordance with the size and proportions of the future kyot, a sketch of the table of contents is drawn in real size. It is determined where wood carving will be located, thumbnails are drawn and the thread sketch itself.
Then the drawing is transferred to a sheet of fiberboard or plywood and gently, as much as possible, hesitated with a jigsaw at low speed, without switching on the pendulum. Shallow Tooth Pillet (I use Boch T101 AO or Gepard T101 AO 2)
Thus, we made a template for which with the help of a mill we will produce the top (crown, table of contents) of the kyot.
In the photo below, two ready-made templates: the first of the Fiberboard is the wall of the table of contents, the background to which the carving will be attached. The second pattern of plywood is a cornice, an arched frisser of kidot, it will be made of wood.
All bends, roundings, patterns of templates are carefully elevated by the sandpaper. From how symmetrical, smooth and neat will our template will be - depends on the appearance of the finished table of contents of the kyot in the future.

The following photos are a template for the lower and top of the kyot.

Pattern from the fiberboard lay on a sheet of plywood and supply a pencil.
After that, cut the jigsaw close to the drawn line, but not touching the line itself.

We screw the template in the plywood blank.
Using a milling mill and straight copper milling mills with a bearing bypass the billet along the contour.
The bearing on the cutter moves along the edge of the template, and the cutter removes the excess material on the workpiece.
In this case, the blank exactly copies the profile of the template.
Arched cornice, too, supply a pencil on a wooden shield.

Cut the jigsaw, rude, without touching the line.
Attach the template to the workpiece and repeat the previous operations.
Breppy pattern with self-tapping screws on reverse side Details, not on the facial - so that the finished element does not see traces from the screws.
Although if you make a mistake - putty to help.

The same repeat in the manufacture of an item for the lower part of the kyot.

With the help of the edge cutter cutter, choose the desired profile with front face Cornise.
Then choose a shallow (5-8mm) groove inside the cornice.

Connect the cornice with the wall of the table of contents.
You can immediately glue two parts and painted in the collection, but it is more convenient for me to lacquer and tint these two elements separately.

Making a carved decor for the table of contents of the outdoor kyot.

Top (or table of contents, crown) Outdoor kyot is an arch with a wood thread overhead.
Inside the arch will be the Orthodox eight-pointed cross with a carved decor.

At the beginning of the same, the arch on the scale of 1: 1 and then the cross, around which our carving will be placed.
Initially, the sketch is drawn "by hand", the accuracy of the lines, the smooth of the roundings at this stage does not play a significant role. The main thing is to position the pattern evenly around the cross, observing the proportion in general terms, create a logical and finished pattern of plant ornament.
After that, with the help of melts, align the line drawn "from the hand", seeking smoothness of transitions, rounding curls, add minor parts into a sketch.
We draw, as usual, only one left part of the pattern - the right will be strictly symmetric.
In order to understand how the finished thread will look like a mirror along the vertical line (passing through the cross). The mirror will reflect the right side of the thread sketch, that is, we will be visible the whole pattern as a whole.

With a pencil, you cover the part of the sketch that will cut the straightmarks. Eased sections - semicircular cutters.

Some masters cut out the sketch and stick it into a wooden billet. Then, along the lines of the sketch using the jigsaw, unnecessary parts of the pattern are removed and cut the cutters directly on paper and on the workpiece at the same time.
With this method, the sketch pattern is not preserved and if it is later necessary to make a similar decor in accuracy - it is necessary to re-create a drawing.
I am doing otherwise: laminating drawing of a sketch by a simple transparent scotch with two sides. Then, with the help of the cutters, carefully cut it out and get a template for a thread that can be used many times. You can call it a stencil.
Template Apply to the workpiece and buckle with an overwritten pencil or handle. With the help of the jigsaw, I remove everything too much and get a blank for a thread. Externally - this is a house slit carving, but we still have to work on itcutters and chisels. In order for me to be understandable where, what and what to cut - I carry the drawing of a sketch on a wooden part. Also with the help of patterns.

After processing with cutters, the finished decor is manually polished with shallow skin.
We remove the skin of the jigsaw pilking, smoothing the irregularities after the work of the chisels.

Inverting the threads can be cut through the cutters in some places the opposite side of the pattern. So we like raising, we separate our carved decor from the background to which it will be attached.

In the following photo, wood carving is covered with transparent varnish.
The wooden shield for the workpiece was glued from different plots - it can be seen different color Movements. In this case, it is not important - the finished carved decor will be painted with paint "under gold".
Varnish plays the role of soil and several deposited layers will allow you to get a smooth surface before the gold coating.

Wood carving on the kyot painted "under gold".

If necessary, we will finish: tinted by mournillates or beans, varnishing.
All wood carving is cut only manually.
Figure, sketch, sketch of the carved ornament is previously discussed. Like sizes.

Carved panels can be used as an overhead carving for church furniture, for example, for outdoor kyot or church iconostasis.

Decorative panel of wood carved

At the first stage of work on panels glued wooden shieldfilled from identical lime rails (lamellae).
A sketch of wood thread is placed on the shield and all unnecessary parts of the ornament are removed using an electric jig. It turns out a slit or end-to-end sugar thread.

Decorative panel can become an element of a furniture facade

In our case, the wood carving (carved panel) was manufactured for the door of a wooden altar into the Orthodox church.

We can order a manufacturer and buy an altar with a senais, in the form of an outdoor kyot.

Tree carving - from sketch to finished product

Creating a sketch or picture is the first step in the manufacture of a carved decor.
Sketch is drawn on 1: 1 scale.
At the same time, not only the external, aesthetic appearance of the future product, but also the possibility of a carver, its skill, the presence of the necessary cutters, the complexity and size of the carved decor.

To enlarge the pictures - click on it with the mouse.

The next step, after creating a thread sketch, its lamination (for example, a conventional transparent scotch) and cutting the pattern on the contour of the pattern.

With this method, the thread template can be used repeatedly if several carved patterns have to be cut.

Just get a pencil template in contours.

The next step is cutting down the logs of a slit pattern.

We delete everything too much, we leave something to work with the cutters.

In principle, this is the so-called house carving.
Simple propelled overhead wood carving used to decorate houses.

With the help of lecal or "by hand" we apply a line of cut, drawing on the workpiece.

After working with incisors, grinding, tinting and painting, it turns out such a wooden carved decor.

This overhead cross with a carved pattern was cut for our church anema workshop.

You can transfer the pattern to the workpiece via a copier or with a cut pattern.
With the second method - one day the template and carved, for example, from dense cardboard, can be used many times, if you need to make a lot of identical products.

The finished slit pattern is processed by cutters and chisels of various shapes.
At the end stage, the wood carving is polished with a fine-grained skin before painting or coated with butter, wax, the veil.

Among the locals, there is a legend, which tells why the village has such a name: they say that a small unknown village burned under the slonible. Two residents of this village are two brothers who were called Krakot, they descended on the river of Jordan to these places. The first brother settled in the head of the river Jordan, and the other went down the river down. The place where the elder brother settled, called Great Krakotkaand where is the younger - Small kraland. Today, these two stakes are so alone next to the other ....

And here's another story from that time

Once we decided the boyars living in the Great Krakotka to attract to the usual daily work, which the peasants were engaged. The boyars then began to oppose, saying that the land was digging, the hay carry is the duties and classes for the peasants. And their, boyars, - military service. Offended and went to the capital - Warsaw, to the king himself ZhigmontaVase.
He listened to the boyar and said that with them, no one would no longer act and gave them the paper in which it was written that the boyars were not to what other works, besides the military service. They were offended by the corner of their subjects and tried to adhere to old laws.

After three sections of the speech, the Polish Krakotka was in Russian Empire in Slonim There is evidence that in 1798 31 men lived in the village. The fact is that before that there was a liberation uprising under the command Tadeusha Koscusheko.

In the 18th century, our country almost all was union. Uniats lived then in Great Krakotka, and in a Small KrakotkaBehind which there was a uniate cemetery.

On Kraktka cemetery

sights

The village is famous for its monuments of nature.

On the outskirts of the village itself, the republican geological geomorphological monument is located "Krakotskaya ridge."Scientists say that it appeared 220 thousand years ago in the Ice Age! Such ridges, they say, appeared from sand, stones, in the waters of water flows in ice cracks.

Famous Krakotsky Cavy

When I got a lot, a man came here.

On the outskirts of Krakotka, in the forest, there is very beautiful juniper grove. If someone was in the Crimea, he saw such juniper groves. In Belarus, such groves are rare.

On the outskirts of the juniper grove, an old cemetery has been preserved, along which stones are scattered. The fact is that on the local rite, when I buried the one who had deprived my life, the stone was put on her head and in the legs, where the wooden cross also put. It is believed that when the day will be the day, and everyone will go to the court of God, it will be easier for him to get up, holding the cross. Now these stones are destroyed, because the cemetery plowed and made a landing there.

About holy healing source

In the village there is a holy criterion with healing water, which is known since ancient times.

About crico there is a local legend.

It is said that once this land belonged to Panu Socratic, who had a daughter, she had very bad eyesight. Once the elder came to the village, stopped near the mountain, with which water flowed.

The elder swept this water, rinsed his face, and immediately his eyes began to see better. They came to the village, told about it to people who all handed over to Pan to Socan. Pan began to take this water and treat his daughter, wipe her eyes - the girl was cured. Then Pan Skurat dug up the well on the mountain and since that time this critique began to call the critique of Pan of Skurat.

Now the criterion is consecrated in honor Forerunners and the Baptist of the Lord John.It is said that on holidays, the water here is drawn up to the bottom, but it is quickly gaining. Water helps from eye and stomach diseases. There are examples that people were cured by this water. But it is known that water helps those who believe.

Holy Crinque is located near the river with an interesting title name. She was deeper and wider until they spent amelioration. And when they spent amelioration, it became a small stream. The name of the river is mysterious. The legend says that one person was killed in these places, who called Himself Jordanas. Or maybe there is a connection of the river of Jordan with the famous river Jordan, in which John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ?

It is accomplished by water-binding prayers, with special solemnity - on the day of Christmas John the Forerunner (July 7). Water from this source is taken not only by local residents, but also pilgrims, travelers from near and far abroad.

Famous Persons of Great Krakotka

In part of the village, which was previously called a small crap, Ivan Solomevich was born - the Belarusian literary critic, folklorist, bibliographer, translator, encyclopedist.

He signed his works by the pseudonym Krakotsky or Jan Solomevich.

The writer was born in a small krakotka, and he went to school in great.

In the Great Krakotka, by the way, the famous Belorussgrigoriy Oklevich was born and born. He during the occupation in Polotsk was an active figure of the National Liberation Belarusian Movement. Also was one of the organizers of the BKRG and TBSH. When the Poles began to hunt Okulevich, he, to avoid arrest, was forced to emigrate to Canada. But there did not leave Belarusian activities, and together with friends created the first Russian newspaper in Canada, who had its Belarusian page in Belarusian. And when the second world began, then Grigory Oklevich went volunteer to war. After the war, he became the main secretary of the Russian Federation in Canada, and later became the chief editor of the Emigrant Newspaper. In Canada, Oklevich wrote and issued two books: "50 years of the Belarusian Republic" and "Russians in Canada".

In the Great Krakotka, Gregory Oklevich and his friends on the basis of TBS created the Belarusian library and called it in honor of the Yankees of Kupala. And the Poles did not like everything that was Belarusian, they did not like the local Belarusian movement, so Poles and closed the library. All Belarusian books from the library took out. Only in 1939, the Belarusian Library of Yankee Kupala was updated in the village.

The second began world WarAnd the library was destroyed, but in 1946, the Yanki Library of Kupala in Great Krakotka was detected for the third time. With this library, the Yankee Kupala's wife conducted a correspondence - Vlad Franventova Lutsevich.

They sent books with their autographs to the Yakub Kolas Library, Arkady Kuleshov, Kondrat Krapiv, Ivan Shamyakin, Mikhaillyankov. In 1970, the new library named after the Yanka Kupala, but today it does not exist. Active participation in the construction of Yankee Kupala Parameltavlagy, the father of the famous Belarusian poemalantinataya.

Tavlai began writing poems at an early age. When he studied in the Slonim teacher's seminary, he recorded Belarus during the census, and Belarusian wrote his native language, for which it was excluded from the seminary. In 2014, 100 years old since the birth of the poet Valentine Tavila. He died for 7 years in Polish prisons for his Belarusian activities, but fortunately, he did not hit the Soviet repressions and did not rot in stalin's campsHe died his death in 1947. A lot about Valentina Taplea wrote, examined his work, dedicated to him a lot of poems of his countryman, the Belarusian poet of Mikola Archoch.

Mikhail was born in the next village, but he loved to come to the Great Krakotka, he loved these places. In the village are proud of their countryman-poet.

The Great Patriotic War

In 1941, a strong battle took place near the Great Kraktka. With the German side against the Red Army, the regiment Gulden fought here. Here 160 German soldiers were killed here, who buried on the mountain near the church. And in 1944, when the Germans retreated, they dug out the remains of each of his dead soldiers, shifted into new coffins and were lucky to Germany.

How many karamedians died, no one can say today. Only 1,600 soldiers got into captivity, they were spent on the streets of the village. In the middle of the village, the Great Krakotka in the mass grave in the middle of the village was buried 17 well-known and 338 unknown redarmeys. And how many of them are still falling asleep in funnels, trenches?

In the village recently built a house and found the remains of another 4 redarmeys. They were brought to the fraternal grave and buried there.

On the outskirts of the village and in the forests and now more lovers studying the history of the Great Patriotic WarThe history of the Great Kraktka find items of those times indicating strong, bloody battles.

Volumetric, contour and geometric wood carving are one of the most ancient methods for decorating a variety of products. By and large, it does not need anything, except for a wooden blank and a rather acute knife: with due skill, it may turn out carved platband, beautiful toy or any other product.

Of course, the masterpieces will have only after many years of practice. But it is possible to start to master the carvings and the easiest details: it is enough to study this article and understand the basics.

Varieties of thread

Despite the fact that in working with a tree, the simplest tools are used, and the processing techniques do not differ in difficulty, the result may be different. Depending on the external view The treated surface is highlighted such types of threads:

  1. Contour thread - Perhaps the simplest (external, not on the technique of execution). The pattern is applied to a flat surface with shallow lines, forming the contours of the pattern.
  2. Geometric thread - the most common place of ease of development. In contrast to contour, patterns are formed not with lines, but a combination of geometric shapes, most often wedge-shaped recesses.

  1. Flat-grained carving -technology of applying an ornament or pattern on a flat board. At the same time, the recesses are cut out on a flat background, which form the drawing we need.

A variety of this technique is also considered to be through thread, in which the billet form not only recesses, but also holes.

  1. Sculptural thread (Volume) - the most complex technique. Chock, branch or root is taken as a workpiece, after which the details are given the desired form. It is important not only the crawler's skill, but also how well the wood is chosen.

Of course, this classification is very conditional, but it gives an idea of \u200b\u200bwhere you can strive to improve your skill.

What is needed for work?

Testcher tools

To do wooden Toys, carved frames, platbands and other decorative objects, the master needs suitable tools. In addition to ordinary carpentry (saw, drill, file), you need to use special devices:

Illustration Tool Purpose

Knife-jamb Universal tool that is used both for a geometric carving of wood and for sculptural works.

Chisels The most extensive group of tools used to form a surrounding. Depending on the edge shape, such varieties are distinguished:
  • flat;
  • semicircular;
  • corner;
  • barbed.

Kischaráz Special chisels with an expedited working part. With their help, relief threads with strong blowout.

False As follows from the name, special tools for the manufacture of wooden spoons. The special form of blades (ring or semiring with one-sided sharpening) allows you to effectively choose large volumes of wood.

The price of professional cutting tools is quite high. And yet the novice master should not save: it is better to purchase a few knives and a decent-quality chisels. Then the first experience will not be spoiled, and it will be possible to focus on the development of techniques and technician of the thread.

Choosing wood

Article carving requires the formation of a fairly clear relief. And for this you need not only suitable tools, but also the corresponding material. Not all wood is suitable for thread, and if you just start to master the technique, then you need to approach the choice very picky:

  1. Linden - perfect option For beginner. The material is soft and homogeneous, because the most complex drawings for wood thread is better to master on the lip.
  2. Alder (red and black) - also very a good option, albeit more dense. Perfectly cuts, almost no dying when drying. The main minus is difficult to find!

  1. Birch - more firm and elastic, but at the same time quite suitable for learning the basics of the thread. Drying can be deformed, because small products usually cut out of the birch.
  2. Oak - excellent optionbut only for experienced Masters. The relief is perfect, but at the same time you need a very sharp tool and a confident hand.

  1. Pear - Wood with high density and good homogeneity. The structure of the material allows you to perform the finest products.

From the tree of these rocks, it is first necessary to cut the blanks, dry them, if necessary, to process is planted. Only after that they are applied with drawings and sketches for which the carving is carried out.

Takes and techniques in geometric thread

In essence, all work on the carved part is reduced to three operations:

  1. Preparation - Choosing and black hardware processing, making pattern.
  2. Actually thread - applying a relief pattern.
  3. Finish treatment - elimination of defects, grinding, varnishing, etc.

Instructions for performing basic operations during threads are shown in the table.
