Cordless screwdriver. Portable power tool requirements Incorrect battery selection

The Government of the Russian Federation has expanded the list of technically complex goods, adding a new position - electrified tools (hand-held and portable electric machines) (Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation of September 17, 2016 No. 929 "). These, for example, include electric drills, electric grinding and electric cutting machines, electric wrenches, electric hammers, etc. ().

Such a change means a special procedure for regulating consumer rights when defects in goods are detected. In particular, they can refuse to fulfill the contract of sale and demand a refund of the amount paid or exchange the goods for a similar one, but according to general rule within 15 days from the date of sale (clause 1 of article 18 of the Law of the Russian Federation of February 7, 1992 No. 2300-I ""; hereinafter - the law on consumer protection).

But at the same time, these actions can be performed after 15 days, but only in the established list of cases: if a significant defect in the product is discovered (for example, which cannot be eliminated), if the deadlines for eliminating the defects are violated. This also applies to cases where the product cannot be used during each year of the warranty period in aggregate for more than thirty days due to the repeated elimination of its various defects ().

If the seller, when concluding the contract, agreed that he is selling the goods with defects, are the corresponding requirements of the buyer subject to satisfaction? Find out from the material "Buyer's rights upon detection of defects in the goods" in "Home Legal Encyclopedia" Internet versions of the GARANT system. Get it for 3 days for free!

By the way, currently, technically complex goods include: digital photo and video cameras and lenses to them, refrigerators, computers, game consoles with a digital control unit, wrist watches and mechanical pocket watches, as well as electronic, etc. The same applies to some Vehicle- cars, motorcycles, floating vehicles with an electric motor and others (Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation of November 10, 2011 No. 924 "").

A hand-held power tool such as a screwdriver has become very popular and sold in the tool market these days. This is because he is an excellent helper in household, and for the professional builder. After all, you must admit that with the help of an electric screwdriver it is much easier, better and faster, you can perform a number of repair and household types of work. For example, if you need to hang a picture or a shelf on the wall, then using an ordinary screwdriver you will have to spend a lot of time and effort on such a seemingly simple work... But using an electric screwdriver you can do it in a matter of minutes.

Due to the fact that power is constantly supplied from the network through the wire, you can work with a network screwdriver exactly as much as you need. No need to worry about charging the battery or stop working if it runs out. The cordless screwdriver, in contrast to the cordless one, has less weight, due to the absence of a rechargeable battery. But you must admit that an important factor when working with a power tool is its weight. Hands quickly get tired of a heavy tool, which does not allow you to work with it for a long period of time. Another significant plus is that when buying a network screwdriver, you pay only for the technical characteristics of the tool. In the case of a rechargeable device, the price includes the cost of the battery. This means that its price may not correspond to the characteristics for which you could purchase a cheaper network analogue. The cordless screwdriver also wins in terms of costs, because in the event of a breakdown or deterioration of the battery cell, it will have to be purchased again.

But the main advantage of the cordless screwdriver is its portability. After all, independence from the outlet allows you to carry out the work process anywhere, whether it is a high-rise construction or basement... The power cord does not interfere with work and there is no need for extension cords and constant movement of them to the work site.

In a cordless screwdriver, there is another important factor that is not present in a network device. This is the type of battery used and its specifications.

TO technical specifications battery includes its operating voltage, charge capacity and full charge time. The voltage affects the power of the screwdriver itself, the higher the voltage, the more the power of the screwdriver, and therefore the greater its torque. The capacity of the charge affects the duration of the screwdriver from one full charge, that is, this is the amount of energy that the battery is capable of containing. The full charge time shows the amount of time it takes for the battery to fully recharge its charge.

There are three types of screwdrivers used: nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd), nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) and lithium-ion (Li-Ion). All of them have their dances and disadvantages, so for ordering them it is better to consider them based on the following parameters:

- Number of charges. Nickel-cadmium can withstand up to 1000 charges, nickel-metal hydride up to 500, and lithium-ion can be charged an almost infinite number of times.

- Memory effect. This parameter reduces the capacity of the battery if it was not fully charged or was charged when it was not fully discharged. Lithium-ion batteries do not have this effect, which is not the case with the other two types of screwdriver batteries.

- Resistance to low temperatures. Nickel-cadmium batteries can be used without problems when working outdoors in sub-zero temperatures. The other two types of batteries lose their maximum charge capacity at low temperatures, and the temperature also affects their charging speed.

- Security. In terms of environmental performance, the lithium-ion battery wins.

Check the requirements for your portable power tool before purchasing. They are regulated by state standards and technical specifications for electrical safety.

You can get acquainted with them, for example, on the Energocontact website.

First of all, we will list what belongs to a portable power tool. These are electric soldering irons, electric drills, screwdrivers, wrenches, furrow drivers, electric hammer drills, grinders, portable electric heating devices for technological needs, step-down transformers for powering power tools, local lighting fixtures, portable electrical panels and other current collectors.

Classes

Portable power tools are divided into classes.

The zero class includes an electric tool with working insulation, without grounding elements, which does not belong to the second and third classes.

The first class power tool has working insulation and a grounding element. The wire to the power source must be equipped with a grounding conductor and a grounding plug.

The second class power tool has double or reinforced insulation, but there are no grounding elements.

The power tool of the third class is designed to operate at extra-low voltage (no more than 42 volts) and does not have any electrical circuits operating at a different voltage.

Voltage for instruments of the first and second classes - no more than 220 volts at direct current, 380 volts - with alternating.

Premises

The voltage of the tool should not exceed 380/220 volts when working in rooms without increased danger and 36 volts in other rooms or outside them.

In premises with increased danger, there is one of the following factors: high dampness (relative humidity over 75%); temperature above 35 ° C; conductive floors; conductive dust; the possibility of simultaneous contact with the metal structures of the building, which are connected to the ground, or with technological equipment - on the one hand, and with the metal casing of electrical equipment - on the other.

Rooms with a relative humidity of about 100% are especially dangerous; with a chemically active or organic medium; containing two or more hazardous factors.

The main thing general requirement for individual users - do mains work only if the power tool has a non-removable flexible cord with a plug. Protect the cord from damage and contact with damp, hot and oily surfaces.

When the plug is turned on, its design must ensure the early closure of the earthing contact, and when turned off, the subsequent opening. It also needs to be protected from moisture. The power tool must be quickly plugged in and unplugged (but not spontaneously).

Malfunctions

And the super main thing! If any, even minor malfunction is found, work must be stopped immediately!

Typical malfunctions of a portable power tool include: Damaged plug or cord. fuzzy operation of the switch; leakage of grease from the gearbox; sparking of the collector brushes with the appearance of a circular fire on the surface; the appearance of smoke, smell of burnt insulation, hanging noise, knocking or vibration.

To provide safe work it is very important that the body of the power tool is zeroed.

Human

Power tools may only be operated by persons trained in the safe use of the power tool. In the event of a malfunction, you cannot repair the tool or its cord and plug yourself - such repairs are usually not of high quality.

When working with a power tool, depending on their type, you need to use personal protective equipment, which include a cotton suit or dressing gown, dielectric gloves, galoshes, rubber and mats, etc. In especially dangerous rooms, the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory!

Before starting work, it is necessary to carefully inspect the power tool for proper grounding and wire insulation, the absence of exposed live parts and defects. Do not use defective power tools!

Remember to unplug the power tool after finishing work.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Workplace

Contain workplace clean and well lit.

Cluttered, poorly lit workplaces cause injury.

Do not use power tools in explosive areas such as where flammable liquids, gases, or dust are present. Power tools create sparks that can ignite dust or steam.

Keep children and visitors at a safe distance from power tools.

Do not be distracted as this can cause you to lose control of your work and cause injury.

electrical safety

Before switching on, check if the supply voltage of your power tool corresponds to the mains voltage; check the serviceability of the cable, plug and socket; in the event of a malfunction of these parts, further operation is prohibited.

Double insulated power tools do not need to be plugged into a socket with a third grounded conductor. For power tools without double insulation, a grounded socket outlet is mandatory.

Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, stoves and refrigerators. The risk of electric shock increases dramatically if your body comes into contact with a grounded object. If it is unavoidable to use a power tool in a humid location, current must be supplied to the power tool through an interrupter that disconnects the power tool in the event of a leak. Electrician's rubber gloves and safety shoes will further increase your personal safety.

Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will greatly increase the risk of electric shock.

Handle the power cord with care. Never use the cord to carry power tools or to pull the plug from the outlet. Keep the cord away from high temperature, oily liquids, sharp edges or moving parts. Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk of electric shock.

When operating the power tool outdoors, use power extension cords specifically designed for outdoor use.

Personal safety

Be careful what you are doing at all times, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs or drugs that slow the reaction down, or alcohol or drugs. This could result in serious injury.

Wear appropriate clothing. Loose clothing, jewelry, or long loose hair can become caught in the moving parts of the power tool. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Hands should be dry, clean and free from traces of oily substances.

Avoid sudden switching on. Make sure the on / off switch is in the “OFF” position before plugging the power tool into an outlet. It is forbidden to carry power tools with your finger placed on the on / off key.

Remove adjusting and / or adjusting keys before turning on the power tool. Leaving a wrench caught in moving parts of a power tool could result in damage to the power tool or serious injury.

Keep your balance securely. Use good support and always keep your body in good balance. Adequate support and balance will ensure reliable control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

Use equipment to ensure your safety. Always wear safety glasses. A respirator, non-slip safety boots, hard hat, or earmuffs must be used for the appropriate conditions.

Safety rules when working with a cordless drill-screwdriver

Do not drill into walls or other surfaces where electrical wiring runs. If this situation is unavoidable, turn off all fuses and / or circuit breakers that supply electrical power to this work area.

If the drill / bit is jammed during operation, immediately turn off the drill, release the drill and then continue working.

Use ear muffs when using a power tool for extended periods of time. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise can cause hearing loss.

Always wear safety glasses when using this power tool. Use a respirator for dusty work.

Clamp the work piece securely while drilling. Never hold the part in your hand or with your feet. Poor fastening of the part can lead to deformation of the accessory leading to loss of control over the tool and possible injury.

Never leave the on / off key locked in the "ON" position. Make sure the on / off key is in the "OFF" position before turning it on. Accidental starts can cause injury.

Position yourself during operation so that you do not get caught between the tool or auxiliary handle and walls or posts. If the accessory bends, it will kickback from the power tool and could result in injury.

Use only branded chargers, chargers from other manufacturers may cause a fire.

Only use the battery with the brand name, batteries from other manufacturers may cause a fire.

Do not overload the cordless drill / screwdriver, use the product strictly for its intended purpose.

Equipment operation rules:

Power Tool Use

Use clamps, clamps, a vise, or some other way to securely hold the workpiece. Gripping the part with your hand or body is not secure and can lead to loss of control and damage to the tool or injury.

Do not overload the power tool. Use a power tool suitable for your job. With the right power tool, you get better work done and more safety.

Do not use a power tool if the ON / OFF key does not work. Any power tool in which the on / off key is defective is an INCREASED hazard and must be repaired prior to use.

Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories or accessories, or when storing the power tool. These preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

Store power tools out of the reach of children and other persons without power tool skills. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of inexperienced users.

Perform necessary power tool maintenance on time. Properly maintained power tools with sharp blades allow you to work more easily and efficiently and increase safety. Any alteration or modification is prohibited as this could result in damage to the power tool and / or personal injury.

Regularly check the tool adjustments and check that there are no deformation of the working parts, breakage of parts, and the condition of the power tool, which may affect the improper operation of the power tool. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before starting work. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. Establish a periodic maintenance schedule for your power tool.

Use only accessories recommended by the manufacturer for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one power tool can become hazardous when used with another power tool.

During repair and construction works a good quality screwdriver is indispensable. Such a tool - necessary thing if you need to assemble furniture, unscrew an old screw, or hang a curtain rod or wooden shelf. Since on modern market a huge assortment of such devices is presented, it is quite difficult to stop a solution on one model or another. But how to choose a cordless screwdriver for home? What functional characteristics are of particular importance, and what may well be overlooked? How not to make a mistake when choosing? This is discussed in more detail in our publication.

The cordless home screwdriver is used equally by apartment owners and those who live in their own cottage. Basically, such a device is used for:

  • Screwing and unscrewing fasteners (bolts, screws, screws, screws);
  • Installation work (to tighten anchors and dowels);
  • To drill wood and metal surfaces;
  • To cut threads in metal parts.

This device consists of several elements:

  • An electric motor that rotates at a specific speed;
  • A planetary gearbox, which is equipped with a clamping chuck and transfers the force to the spindle;
  • A torque-regulating clutch attached to the gearbox;
  • Clamping chuck for attaching attachments (bits) to the motor shaft.
  • Electronic control system equipped with a special button for starting the device and a reverse switch;
  • A battery that is used as a power source.

Varieties of screwdrivers

The name "screwdriver" is often used to refer to several types of tools, the functionality of which is very similar. There are the following main types of home screwdrivers:

  • Electric wrenches;
  • Electric screwdrivers;
  • Drill drivers (the most common type of these devices)

Torque

This indicator determines the force with which the screwdriver resists the load or applies it to the screw being screwed. Typically, for domestic purposes, this device is equipped with a torque in the range of 10 to 15 Newton meters. Professional screwdrivers have a torque of up to 130 Newton meters. This functionality allows you to drill hard enough materials. The motor shaft of professional screwdrivers per minute makes 1300 revolutions, at household devices this figure is 500 revolutions.
The range of standard sizes (diameter and length) of the screws to be screwed in depends on what the torque is, as well as the hardness of the available working surfaces. An important difference between a screwdriver and other power tools is that you can adjust the torque due to the presence of a special limiter (a ring that is located after the chuck). Thanks to this functionality, it is possible to reduce to an absolute minimum the likelihood of bit wear, sinking too deep into the surface, as well as breakage of the slot at the self-tapping screw. The screwdriver protects the ratchet at the motor coupling against overloads. It is she who allows the twisting shaft to slip freely. Thanks to the set maximum torque, it is possible not to overload the engine and unscrew the tightest screw.

Good battery

When thinking about how to choose a screwdriver, be sure to carefully consider the battery. After all, it is not entirely comfortable to run to recharge such a device every half hour. In principle, it is not difficult to stop the decision on one option or another. It is enough to choose a more powerful analogue. Ideally, you can buy a spare battery as well. In some models, such a battery is included. The time required for recharging differs depending on the device. For example, for a professional screwdriver it is about an hour, for an amateur - about seven hours.

Varieties of batteries

As a rule, several types of batteries are used in screwdrivers:

  • Li-ion;
  • Nickel-cadmium;
  • Nickel metal hydride.

The most popular at the moment are screwdrivers equipped with ecological Ni-MH batteries. In addition to environmental friendliness, they have several advantages: compact size, low weight, no memory effect. But there are also disadvantages: such batteries do not like electrical overloads and low temperatures. In addition, their cost is quite high. But they are more powerful and do not have as great a memory effect as nickel-cadmium. The number of recharges with stable capacity is 1500 times. Important: you cannot store these batteries in a discharged state, only in a charged state.
Another battery option is nickel-cadmium. They are more toxic. The number of recharges here is twice that of Ni-MH (nickel-metal hydride). This option is cheaper, it is not afraid of frost at all. But there are also disadvantages: batteries of this type suffer from strong self-discharge and memory effect. For storage, it is better to completely discharge them. Otherwise, there is a risk of getting a battery with a lower capacity.

Sometimes there are models with lithium-ion batteries. This type is sensitive to low temperatures. They are not powerful. The number of recharges is within 3000. There is no memory effect. The cost of such batteries is quite high, although this option is quite convenient to use. The service life and the permissible number of charging cycles in this case are at least two or three times higher than those of nickel-cadmium batteries. When deciding how to choose the right cordless screwdriver take the time to choose a battery. After all, just such a component of the device is almost half of its cost. Therefore, it is important to compare the following parameters:

  • Battery capacity and voltage;
  • Absence or presence of a memory effect;
  • Absence or presence of self-discharge.

The battery is a removable element consisting of several power sources concentrated in a common body. Such elements are fastened together using plates. At the output, the total voltage is summed up, making up 18, 24, 12, 10 volts. The capacity depends on the volume of the cell installed inside the battery. It is she who determines the operating time and the total number of recharges. The capacity decreases over time. The charge memory effect is the ability to lose capacity when the battery is not discharged and then fully charged. That is, you need to completely discharge it before charging. An idle charged battery loses its charge anyway. In this case, not only the output voltage of the battery is important, but also the ratio to the operating time of the amperage. This value is measured in amperes per hour. Higher rates provide a longer period of time for the battery to hold a charge.

How to choose a chuck for a screwdriver?

There are several types of screwdriver chucks: key and keyless. For the key, a special gear type key is used. Such a cartridge can have either one or two couplings. In the second case, we are talking about a quick-release mechanism. Keyless chucks can be two- or one-sleeve (this option is much easier to work with, because the entire operation can be performed with the movement of one hand). We recommend taking screwdrivers with a keyless chuck, they are much more convenient and easier to use.

Reverse

Reversing or reversing helps to pull a hopelessly stuck drill out of hard material or unscrew a tight screw. For convenience, the switch to the reverse mode is located directly with the start button of the device. He has two provisions. Due to the position between them - the device can be locked.

Design and comfort of use

If it is important for you to get a good device, you should not trust viewing beautiful photos, because comfort is difficult to define visually. It is better to hold such a device in your hand, check if the buttons are tight, whether it is convenient to switch them.

Equipment

The complete set of the screwdriver may differ depending on this or that model. V the best option- the presence of several nozzles for different screw heads. This way you can save both time and money on their subsequent purchase.

Key findings

For a household screwdriver, several parameters are important:

  • Torque indicator from ten newton meters;
  • Revolutions per minute 400-500;
  • Two operating modes (drilling and twisting);
  • Reverse function;
  • Rechargeable device type;
  • Nickel-metal hydride or nickel-cadmium battery type:
  • Voltage ranging from 10 to 14.4V;
  • It is better to opt for a higher ampere / hour value;
  • The presence of a flashlight (as additional lighting when working or as a device to ensure the complete discharge of nickel-cadmium batteries);
  • Special belts for comfortable placement of the device on the master's belt.
