Homemade feed chopper. What kind of feed grinders are there and how to make it yourself? Alternative option for making a feed cutter

Gadgets such as homemade feed cutters and feed choppers will help you provide your livestock with the right amount of food much faster and more conveniently. The availability of such tools is especially important if there are many animals, and their food must be of different quality and degree of chopping.

A feeder and other tools can be made with your own hands from improvised items or unnecessary parts household appliances.

Making an electric feed cutter from a washing machine

In order to make this unit, you need to use some materials that can be extracted from old household appliances. Before starting work on creating an electric feed cutter, you will need a washing machine, from which you will need to get the motor and drum.

    Hole

Specifications such as the width, height and length of the slot must be the same as the motor shaft. After the measurement has been carried out, you need to start drilling the outer sides of the drum. Here you need to create three slots for the bolts - 2 identical and 1 smaller in size, as in the picture above.

One of the walls should have an outlet (for ejection of feed) in the form of an additional iron part, which is separately attached to the drum. The finished product will be released on it. You can see this construction in the following figure.

Fragment for ejection of feed from the drum

This completes the main stage. Now you need to start working with the cutting part of the device.

    Appliance blade

The cutting part must be bolted to the motor shaft. For this design, you need to use 2 knives:

    1. 1. The first includes a propeller with slightly concave blades. It should be installed closer to the bottom of the drum. Its tasks are to throw the feed upwards and push the crushed particles out of the cutter.
    2. 2. The second knife is the main cutting element and can be made from an old saw blade. The following picture shows what the blades look like.

The knives are slightly curved in shape. This increases the performance of the electric feed cutter. After completing the creation of the blade of the device, you need to start making support.

    Electric feed cutter stand

The support in this device is a metal structure that resembles a stool. Attach to it assembled structure with bolts.

    Stand

In the picture above, you can see the stand in more detail. It does not need to be covered with additional iron sheets.

This completes the work on creating an electric feed cutter from a washing machine. The result is an efficient feed cutter from a washing machine. This device is capable of handling much more forage than conventional manual grass cutters.

Making a chopper from a cylinder or sturdy bucket

When working on creating a device, you first need to evenly separate one part of the gas vessel from the other, using a grinder, so that you get two almost identical cylinders. Next, take one half and prepare an iron mold for the blades, as shown in the next image.

    The bottom of the cylinder

After completing these manipulations, you can proceed to work with the blades. To do this, you need to bend them a little. Then attach the knives with screws to the prepared iron disk, which should have pre-made slots.

The figure below shows, in finished form, how this fragment should look.

    Cutting elements

After creating cutting elements for a feed cutter from a cylinder, an opening should be cut out with a grinder. This should be done on the side of the gas vessel.

Under the disc with blades, shown in the image above, you need to install an iron stand with a cut out opening, which should look like a stool in appearance, to connect the disc and cutting elements to the motor.

A cylinder with a disc attached to an iron stand and a motor under it

The motor, in turn, is installed under an iron stand. Thus, a device for grinding feed is obtained. It is necessary to attach a bucket to it, where the finished product will be poured - as in the image above.

How to make a feed cutter from a grinder?

The disc device can be made at home from an angle grinder. There are different drawings for this, but the most popular is the diagram of a feed cutter from a grinder.

    Feed cutter diagram

In the diagram on the left, you can see all necessary elements constructions:

    • bucket;
    • chopper;
    • bunker;
    • Bulgarian;
    • lid;
    • cutting element;
    • stand;
    • outlet for the release of food.

The electric feed cutter includes a bucket made of high quality steel. In the image, it is schematically represented under number 2. At the bottom of this object, a hole should be drilled in the center with a diameter of 1 cm - in the diagram this part is marked with number 3. In the bottom of the bucket, holes should also be made along the edges (two on the right and on the left), the size of which should be 15 mm.

Next, you should prepare the stand - its parts are marked with numbers 4 and 6. Then make holes on its base (number 4 in the diagram) - just like on the bottom of the bucket on the extreme sides. Then bolt these two items together. Next, you need to connect the motor from the grinder (number 7) to the disc (number 5). This completes the main stage of work. You can start creating the feed exit opening.

It is necessary to cut a hole at the bottom of the bucket and insert a part that will be designed to release food for animals (it can be seen in the diagram under number 2, near the base under number 4 at the cut point). The shredder should contain a cover with an additional hole in the center (number 1). Feed is placed in it for further processing. If necessary, the central part is additionally closed with a smaller lid so that the raw materials do not fly out during processing. This completes the creation of the feed cutter.

As is known, Agriculture- a troublesome and complex business. Here you need to acquire a tool and build something useful, as well as create normal conditions for livestock and poultry. Moreover, there are plenty of chickens in submission, and eggs are laid steadily, why not please them with a quality product? That is how the decision was made to purchase a feed cutter, the product of which will be very much to the liking of poultry. Fortunately, there are funds, free time - a carriage and a small cart, and the market is located not far from home.

However, while traveling through the rows in search of a quality feed cutter, it was found that a modern and progressive Russian market agricultural supplies are not so progressive and modern. After several hours of vain search and total disappointment, an ordinary stainless steel bucket rushed into my eyes. Like an ancient scientist, exclaiming "Eureka!" the decision was made to assemble this feed cutter with your own hands, and that very "happy" bucket became its basis.

In anticipation of hard physical labor, the road home flew almost imperceptibly, and in my head a diagram of a future self-made feed cutter with my own hands was already looming, the product of which the poultry would be immensely happy with. Upon arrival home, work began immediately: the bucket was "disassembled into organs", marked, numbered and drilled, after which holes were stamped and a flange with an axle was screwed onto which, subsequently, a body with bearings and oil seals was put on. The eyes burned with enthusiasm, so another bucket was used, which was disassembled and turned into a feed hopper. Thanks to a neighbor-welder, in a matter of hours, a frame was welded onto which all the components of the feed cutter were fixed with their own hands, and this "device" is powered by an ordinary handle from the Sovdep's Strumok juicer.

From the very beginning this enterprise seemed very doubtful, however, in fact, the feed cutter, released with the help of its "golden" hands, showed itself surprisingly well, and thanks to the huge size of the container in which the product is placed, as well as the good power, the filling of the ex-bucket, transformed into a feed receiver, happens in a few minutes.

Field trials of the "beta" version of the self-made feed cutter were quite successful, however, it was necessary to "release a patch" in the form of a pusher, which prevents the feed cutter from cutting bundles. It is worth noting that all the necessary drawings of a home-made manual feed cutter and marking can be found on the vastness of the worldwide network, however, if there is a minimum skill of work, and nature has not cheated it with ingenuity, it is quite possible to assemble this device without even peeping at the instructions.

A forage grinder is a useful device for any private household, capable of processing not only grain, but also juicy forage in a short time. The resulting mixture can be fed in the form of mash or porridge, and they are suitable for all types of livestock and poultry. You can not only buy a feed cutter, but also make it yourself at home.

Making a feed cutter with your own hands is not difficult, but for this you need to have all required material and tools, as well as drawings and a little experience with metal. A homemade feed cutter will last a long time, and in its power it will not be inferior to store counterparts. Another plus - a do-it-yourself feed cutter made from improvised material will be much cheaper than a purchased one. The pluses of the feed cutter can also include:

  • Compactness,
  • Simplicity and ease of use.

On the forums, they often ask: with your own hands how to make a small and practical feed cutter, and what is needed for this. The easiest option is a grater feed cutter. They make it from a sheet of iron, in which holes are drilled, the edges are bent, and the sheet itself is then inserted into wooden frame... Such a homemade feed chopper can be made in a few minutes, but its performance will be quite low.

A more complex version of the feed cutter is from a washing machine or from a gas cylinder.

Gas cylinder feed cutter

A homemade gas cylinder feed cutter is quite simple and versatile. In order to make it, you need to cut the cylinder into two parts, and drill a hole in the bottom. Small through grooves are cut across the entire surface of the cylinder, no more than a centimeter wide. It is best to arrange them in the form of a checkerboard. The bottom of the notch should be flat and straight and the top should be in the shape of an arch. For this, it is more convenient to use a punch. You can also make the holes round, but then they will be less effective.

An axle and a flange are attached to the bottom of the cylinder. The axle is required to install the housing, and is secured by bearings and oil seals. A metal or wooden box is used to load raw materials.

A solid base for the feed cutter is welded from a metal corner. A balloon is horizontally installed on it, and on top of it is a hopper for loading root crops or vegetables. The lower part of the hopper should be tightly adjacent to the cylinder, for which it is made oval. For greater strength, two metal ribs can be welded to the hopper and cylinder.

This homemade cylinder feed cutter does not have an engine - the device works according to the principle manual grinder... A handle is screwed to the axis of the cylinder, the rotation of which provides grain grinding. For more effective work apparatus, you can make a wooden crush. Its role is to push the raw material through the recesses in the cylinder.

Washing machine feed chopper

More complex option homemade device- a feed cutter from a washing machine. Before you start manufacturing, you need to familiarize yourself with the drawings and diagrams. They will help you understand the features of fastening elements and working units. For manufacturing, a frame and an engine from an old washing machine are used.

In the back of the body, a cutout is made sufficient to accommodate the shaft from the motor. Cutting discs or knives are attached to the shaft using the most common bolts. For better performance, it is recommended to install two knives: one is attached at the bottom, the other at the top. The role of the lower knife is to move raw materials into the output hopper and raise unprocessed root crops. The upper knife is the main chopper.

A hole is made in the lower part of the working chamber for the outlet of processed feed. A tray or bucket is placed under it. The shredder frame is installed on the frame. Instead of a frame, you can use and regular table- the main thing is to firmly attach the device to the surface.

The lid can be made hinged to control the quality of grinding and add new raw materials, or you can make a small window in it.

A do-it-yourself chopper from a washing machine made according to this principle is one of the most effective and simple. In just an hour of operation, the device is capable of grinding up to one hundred kilograms of vegetables or root crops. The feed particle size is ideal for feeding both young animals and adults, suitable for preparing wet feed as well as drying. The device is also capable of chopping freshly cut grass.

Another plus: this type of homemade feed chopper can be easily converted into a grain crusher.

For this, just below the cover, another engine is installed. It is attached to a metal corner with bolts, and another knife is put on it. The device is capable of handling all types of grain, from the softest to the hardest.

A household vegetable shredder is able to process any succulent feed into a homogeneous mass that can be used as a standalone feed or as part of a mash. Prices for a feed cutter start at 3,500 rubles, but despite the availability, many farmers prefer to collect it on their own.

A hand-made device does not differ in functionality or performance from a store counterpart. The cost of such a feed chopper will be lower - it is made from materials available in every farm. The cost of replacement parts will also be lower.

The basic model is designed for processing vegetables, roots and fruits. If you have an additional set of curly double-edged knives, then the device is also used for grinding grass, hay and needles.

It is necessary to load the grass into the working chamber in small portions, otherwise the engine will not be clogged.

When working with a homemade electric feed cutter, you must follow safety precautions:

  • Stop work immediately if smoke or sparks appear,
  • Do not leave the working feed cutter unattended,
  • Exercise caution when loading vegetables into the cooking compartment,
  • Do not touch the working shaft of the switched on device,
  • Dismantle and flush the feed cutter only after disconnecting from the mains.

Types of homemade vegetable grinders

Manual feed cutter

A simple vegetable cutter can be used to prepare feed for several cows, chickens or piglets. The device works on the principle of a grater, but differs in productivity: it can be used to process up to 10 liters of vegetables or fruits in 10-15 minutes.

An ordinary galvanized bucket with a volume of 10-12 liters is used as a grater. The bow is broken off and the bottom is cut out, and holes are punched in the walls. The edges should be as sharp as possible, and the dimensions should be from 0.2 to 1 cm. The grater will be more effective if you punch the holes in a checkerboard pattern.

For structural strength, the bucket is fitted with metal stiffeners at both ends. Strips of hard metal are welded to them, in which recesses with a diameter of 1 cm are drilled in advance. A piece of reinforcement is pulled through the holes, traced around the edges of the bucket and bent in the form of a handle.

To supply raw materials for processing, a receiver is installed above the bucket - it can be a wooden or metal box with a knocked out bottom. Attach the receiver to a wooden frame with bolts or self-tapping screws. The final stage of assembly is making the base. She is knocked out of a solid bar in the form of a table. The front part must be strengthened with additional yards, and made 5-7 cm lower than the back.

The root crop shredder works like this: the rotation of the handle activates the drum. Since the bucket is tapered, the slices will be pushed into the front and from there into the provided container. Vegetables and fruits are crushed by their own gravity.

Grinder feed chopper

An electric homemade vegetable cutter is made using a motor from a grinder. The simplest option is a disc feed cutter with a vertical feed of raw materials.

The power of the machine is sufficient for shredding:

  • Beets,
  • Turnip,
  • Potatoes,
  • Carrots,
  • Batata,
  • Turnips,
  • Rutabagas,
  • Pumpkins,
  • Zucchini and squash,
  • Celery,
  • Radish,
  • Radish.

To assemble a grinder from a grinder, they begin with welding a frame made of metal, at least 5 mm thick.

The frame is made on legs: the minimum distance from the ground to the motor is 20 cm. A strong steel disc is used as a cutting element, which is equipped with four knives with serrated blades. It is easier to make knives from old hand saws: for this, two plates, about 50 mm wide, are cut out of the blade. The disc is installed in the working chamber so that a gap of 1 cm remains between the edge of the knife and the wall. The working chamber can be a large bucket, a frame from an old washing machine or vacuum cleaner, a metal barrel. Another option is to weld the chamber of the desired shape from steel sheets.

The cutting disc is fastened with adapters, and a receiving hopper is mounted immediately above it. They make it from an ordinary bucket with a knocked out bottom. An unloading hole is cut in the lower part of the chamber, under which a box for chopped vegetables is installed. The engine is used from a grinder: it is attached to the cutting unit using several couplings, and connected to the shaft using a drive belt.

Barrel vegetable cutter

How to make a do-it-yourself root vegetable chopper from a tank or barrel:

  1. If the working container is welded independently, then it is better to use steel, 1.5 mm thick,
  2. The walls are stiffened by flanging the edges with rubber tubes,
  3. The bottom is made of 5-6 mm steel sheet,
  4. A hole is drilled in the center of the bottom to install the motor. For this model, a conventional single-phase motor is suitable,
  5. At the bottom of the barrel, an unloading hole is cut out, under which a tray or box is placed,
  6. The body is installed on four legs from a pipe cut or corner,
  7. Two knives are installed inside the working container,
  8. The upper knife is made double-edged with the edges bent down,
  9. The lower knife is made in the form of a propeller with one cutting edge,
  10. The shaft is connected to the motor using a chain drive.
  11. The dimensions of a homemade barrel depend on the thickness of the steel used. If you use a sheet of 1.5 mm, then the maximum wall height should not exceed 60 cm.

Crusher blades are made from a hand saw blade - the size should be one centimeter less than the diameter of the working chamber.

The role of the upper knife is chopping, and the lower one is tedding and lifting of uncut feed particles. To set the size of the fraction of the crushed feed, a sieve with the desired cell pitch is installed on the unloading hole. Depends on the purpose of using the milled vegetables: for feeding adult cattle and small ruminants, pigs, horses and rabbits, a sieve with a cell of 0.7 -1.2 cm is suitable. For feeding young animals and poultry, it is better to use a smaller size: 0.2 -0.7 cm.

A do-it-yourself feeder is quite simple to make. In this case, you need to show a little ingenuity and work with your hands. In fact, you can make a structure from old and unnecessary things. A good food chopper can come from a washing machine. In this article, we'll show you how to feed your pets effortlessly.

Feed cutter grater

The simplest version of a feed cutter that you can make with your own hands is an ordinary grater. It should be clarified that this product is only suitable for small households. In order to make this structure, you don't even need blueprints.

We take a sheet of stainless steel, the approximate size is a height of 50 and a width of 30 centimeters. We make holes with a punch, according to the same principle as in a regular grater, which is available in any kitchen.

The top of each hole must be folded back. For greater convenience, the structure must be supplemented with a wooden frame. The manual cutter is now ready for use. The entire manufacturing process will take you no more than an hour, but the benefits of feeding the animals will be very noticeable.

Grinder feeder

To make this model, you will need a metal bucket. It is recommended to use stainless steel buckets, galvanized buckets can react with some types of feed, and your animals will get food poisoning.

Holes must be made in the walls of the bucket, with a diameter of about 1.5 centimeters. The edges of the holes can be bent, as in the previous version. A small hole, about 1 centimeter in diameter, is also punched into the bottom of the bucket.

After that, with the help of metal corners and electric welding, the frame is constructed. The punched bucket is attached to the frame with a flange and glands. You should get a movable drum, this will be the main working part of the feed cutter. By the way, instead of a bucket, you can use a drum from an old washing machine, having previously made holes in it.

A receiving hopper for feed is installed above the drum. It can be made from sheets of metal or from another bucket from which you need to cut off the bottom. In order to give the drum the required rotation speed, a grinder is attached to the rear flange with a bolt. Having checked the reliability of the connections, you can start testing, a simple do-it-yourself feed cutter from a grinder is ready.

The fodder mass is poured from above into the receiving hopper. Under its own weight. The raw material presses on the drum, which acts as a grater. The chopping speed is regulated by the speed of the grinder. To prevent the crushed mass from flying out of the drum randomly, you can design a small door on the door hinges.

It is worth noting that instead of a grinder, you can adapt an ordinary handle. In this case, you will get a large copy of a household meat grinder, only instead of minced meat, a crushed lump will come out for your livestock.

Before starting work, it is recommended to prepare drawings. The performance of such a design will directly depend on your capabilities. If you make some effort, about 50 kilograms of feed will come out guaranteed.

Feeder from a washing machine

This is a more complicated option, therefore, before starting work, it is necessary to make drawings. From a washing machine, you need a motor and a drum.

A hole must be drilled in the rear wall of the drum, the diameter must match the motor shaft. Along the edges, four holes are made for the fastening bolts. A small hole is cut in one of the walls through which the finished feed will be ejected.

The cutting part is bolted to the motor shaft. It is worth noting that you need two knives for this design. The first looks like a propeller with slightly curved blades. It is installed closer to the bottom of the drum and its purpose is to throw the feed up and push the chopped particles out of the cutter.

The second knife is the main cutting tool and can be made from an old saw blade. The ends of this knife should be slightly bent towards the bottom, this increases the productivity of the structure. Sharpening is best done with a double-edged edge.

The product is installed on a metal support made in the form of a stool and bolted. To prevent feed scattering in different directions during operation, it is recommended to make a lid with a hole for raw materials.

It should be noted that the fraction of feed directly depends on the time they are in the working area of the feed cutter. It is recommended to supplement the outlet with a flap and make a small hopper where the crushed mass will fall.

According to farmers, such a feed cutter is guaranteed to grind about 100 kilograms of feed per hour. This design is well suited for chopping a variety of vegetables and herbs.

As you can see, making a feed cutter with your own hands is not difficult at all. It should be noted that these are working models that are successfully used in farms. You can try to reproduce one of them in your backyard or take these options as a basis and design your own version of a feed chopper.
