Each of us has a moment in life when we want to lighten our soul and pour it out to someone. Relatives do not want to be burdened with their problems, and strangers do not want to trust their secrets. Who then will open up? Every believer knows what confession is. During it, you can reveal all your secrets to the Lord and they will not be known to anyone.

Everyone who decides to go to confession for the first time thinks about how to behave correctly? What is the correct way to name sins in confession? It happens that people come to confession and tell in detail about all their life ups and downs. This is not considered a confession. Confession includes such a thing as repentance. This is not a story about your life, and even with the desire to justify your sins.

Since some people simply do not know how to confess in a different way, the priest will accept this version of confession. But it will be more correct if you try to understand the situation and admit to all the mistakes.

Many write their sins for confession in a list. In it, they try to list everything in detail and tell about everything. But there is another type of people who list their sins only in separate words. It is necessary to describe your sins not in general terms about the passion that seethes in you, but about its manifestation in your life.

Remember, confession should not be a detailed account of the incident, but should be repentance for certain sins. But you should not be especially dry in describing these sins, unsubscribing with just one word.

How to name sins in confession?

Often people try to find an exact name for their sin. Remember that sins must be called those words that exist in modern language. It will be better if you repent with your natural words from a pure heart, and not memorized from books. You must understand what you are talking about.

Everyone knows that there are 8 passions. And if you have violated the commandments in relation to these passions, then it is imperative to repent of this.

Example of sins in confession:

  1. fornication
  2. avarice
  3. gluttony
  4. sadness
  5. pride
  6. vanity
  7. despondency

In each of them it is necessary to repent in different ways. There are such sins that you do not need to talk about in detail, but you need to clearly let the priest understand the extent of your sin. But in the case of the sins of vanity, pride, theft, it is necessary to remember such cases and, if necessary, remind yourself of such cases.

What to do before going to confession

  1. Recognize your sins. First of all, you must recognize your own sins. But what is sin? This is an act that is contrary to God's will. Most often, a summary of the will of the Lord regarding people can be found in the famous Ten Commandments.
  2. Do not use the "list of sins". Many churched people say that using such lists during confession turns it into a formal listing of their misdeeds. But if you are still afraid to miss something during the sacrament, then it is better to make yourself a small reminder.

A believer needs to know how to correctly write sins for confession. To do this, you can use the following hint:

  • Sins that were committed against the Lord God (nominal faith, disbelief in God, superstition, turning to various magicians, creating "idols").
  • Sins against oneself and one’s neighbor (condemnation and discussion of the shortcomings of loved ones, neglect of people, abortion, various kinds of prodigal sins, cowardice, neglect of raising children, lies of various kinds, embezzlement of someone else’s property, drunkenness and other addictions, laziness, envy, neglect of one’s own health , greed, unwillingness to change one's life, desire for a "beautiful life", indifference to other people)
  • Talk only about sins, besides your own
  • Do not invent a special church language
  • Talk about serious things, not trifles
  • Try to change your life even before confession
  • Try to live peacefully with everyone

First, before confession, it is advisable to find out when it is carried out. It happens that there are a lot of people who want it. Then it would be better to contact the priest personally and ask to appoint a separate time for you. It may be that during confession, the priest can appoint you a penance.

It's not a punishment, it's just a method to completely eradicate sin and be forgiven for it. It has its own expiration date. Basically, communion takes place after confession. That is why it is recommended to combine preparation for repentance with preparation for communion.

The desire to confess appears not only in people who bow before the law of God. Even the sinner is not lost to the Lord.

He is given the opportunity to change through the revision of his own views and the recognition of the sins committed, the correct repentance of them. Having cleansed himself of sins and embarked on the path of correction, a person will not be able to fall again.

The need to confess arises in someone who:

  • committed the gravest sin;
  • terminally ill;
  • wants to change the sinful past;
  • decided to get married;
  • preparing for communion.

Babies up to the age of seven, and parishioners who were baptized that day, can receive Communion for the first time without confession.

Note! It is allowed to come to confession at the age of seven.

It often happens that a person of mature age needs to confess for the first time. In this case, you need to remember your sins committed from the age of seven.

No need to rush, remember everything, write down the list of sins on a piece of paper. The priest is a witness to the Sacrament, he should not be embarrassed and ashamed, as well as the all-forgiving God himself.

God, in the person of the holy fathers, forgives even grave sins. But in order to receive God's forgiveness, you need to seriously work on yourself.

To atone for sins, a penitent person performs the penance imposed on him by a priest. And only after its fulfillment, the repentant parishioner is forgiven with the help of the "permissive prayer" of the clergyman.

Important! When preparing yourself for confession, forgive those who offended you and ask for forgiveness from the one you offended.

You can go to confession, if only you are able to drive obscene thoughts away from yourself. No entertainment and frivolous literature, it is better to remember the Holy Scriptures.

Confession proceeds in the following order:

  • wait your turn for confession;
  • turn to those present with the words: “Forgive me, a sinner,” having heard in response that God will forgive, and we forgive, and only then approach the priest;
  • in front of a high setup - an lectern, bow your head, cross yourself and bow, begin to confess correctly;
  • after listing the sins, listen to the clergyman;
  • then, crossing ourselves and bowing twice, we kiss the Cross and the holy book of the Gospel.

Think in advance how to confess correctly, what to say to the priest. An example, the definition of sins, can be taken from the Biblical Commandments. We begin each phrase with the words that she sinned and in what exactly.

We speak without details, we formulate only the sin itself, unless the priest himself asks about the details. If you need God's forgiveness, you must sincerely repent of your actions.

It is foolish to hide anything from the priest, he is the helper of the all-seeing God.

The goal of a spiritual healer is to help you repent of your sins. And if you have tears, the priest has achieved his goal.

What is considered a sin?

The well-known biblical commandments will help you determine which sins to name the priest during confession:

Types of sins Sinful actions Essence of sin
Attitude towards God Doesn't wear a cross.

Confidence that God is in the soul and there is no need to go to the temple.

Celebration of pagan traditions, including Halloween.

Violation of the commandment "Thou shalt not kill."

Carnal sin - adultery, fornication.

The sin of foul language.

Disregard for what the Lord has given - to health.

The sin of arrogance.

Important! The primary sins, on the basis of which others appear, include arrogance, pride and arrogance in communication.

An example of confession in the church: what sins to say?

Consider how to confess correctly, what to say to the priest, an example of confession.

A confession written on paper can be used if the parishioner is very shy. Even the priests allow this, but you don’t need to give the sample to the priest, we list it in our own words.

In Orthodoxy, an example of confession is welcomed:

  1. approaching the priest, do not think about earthly affairs, try to listen to your soul;
  2. turning to the Lord, it must be said that I have sinned before You;
  3. list the sins, saying: “I have sinned ... (by adultery or lying or something else)”;
  4. sins are told without details, but not very briefly;
  5. having finished the enumeration of sins, we repent and ask for salvation and alms from the Lord.

    And if there are still few sins, but it’s not very clean on my conscience, and I promised my MCH that I would definitely go to church. His first requirement is to go to confession and repent of all grave things. Luckily, I don't have many. And now I have a real problem. What if you confess online? Who thinks about this topic? Well, as I understand it, you post your site and there the priest prays for you and forgives sin. Not?

    To answer

    1. Excuse me, in my opinion it is not necessary to go to the temple at the request of the MCH. What is it for? This is done for GOD, for the purification of the soul, and not because someone "demands". As far as I understand, you do not have this need. God cannot be deceived - neither through the Internet, nor in the temple.

    Reply to Christina. Christina, no, you can't confess over the Internet. I understand you are afraid of the priest, but think about it, the priest is only a witness to your repentance (after your death he will intercede for you before God and say that you repented if it was, in turn, the demons will talk about what you did not repent of ) do not complicate the future either for the father or for yourself. You don't need to hide sins, you don't need to hide them otherwise in this way you will increase them in number for yourself. We must honestly tell the whole truth about our evil deeds, not justifying ourselves, but condemning ourselves for them. Repentance is the correction of thoughts and life. After confession, you kiss the cross and the Gospel as a promise to God to fight the sins that you have confessed. Look for God! Guardian Angel!

A Brief Instruction Before Confession (Based on materials from Orthodox publications)

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ! As we prepare to begin the great sacrament of holy confession, looking at the mercy of God, let us ask ourselves whether we have shown mercy to our neighbors, whether we have reconciled with everyone, whether we have enmity in our hearts against anyone, remembering the cherished words of the Holy Gospel: "If you forgive a man their sins, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you" (Matthew 6:14). This is the condition that we must understand and observe in the salvific work of holy repentance. However, in order to repent and receive the remission of sins, it is necessary to face your sin. And it's not that easy. Self-love, self-pity, self-justification interferes with this. A bad deed, in which our conscience convicts us, we are inclined to consider it an "accident", to blame circumstances or neighbors for it. Meanwhile, every sin in deed, word or thought is a consequence of the passion living in us - a kind of spiritual illness.

If it is difficult for us to recognize our sin, then it is even more difficult to see the passion that has taken root in us. So, you can live without suspecting the passion of pride in yourself, until someone hurts us. Then the passion will be revealed through sin: a wish for evil to the offender, a harsh insulting word, and even revenge. The fight against passions is the main thing for every Christian.

Usually people who are inexperienced in spiritual life do not see the multitude of their sins, do not feel their heaviness, their aversion to them. They say: “I didn’t do anything special”, “I only have minor sins, like everyone else”, “I didn’t steal, I didn’t kill,” - so many often begin confession. But our holy fathers and teachers, who left us prayers of repentance, considered themselves the first of sinners, with sincere conviction appealed to Christ: "No one has sinned on earth from the beginning, as I have sinned, accursed and prodigal!" The brighter the light of Christ illuminates the heart, the more clearly all the shortcomings, ulcers and wounds of the soul are recognized. And vice versa: people immersed in the darkness of sin do not see anything in their hearts, and if they see, they are not horrified, since they have nothing to compare with, for Christ is closed to them by a veil of sins. Therefore, in order to overcome our spiritual laziness and insensitivity, the holy Church laid down preparatory days for the sacrament of repentance, and then for Communion - fasting. The fasting period can last from three days to a week, unless there is special advice or instructions from the confessor. At this time, one should observe fasting, keep oneself from sinful deeds, thoughts and feelings, in general, lead a temperate, repentant life, dissolved by deeds of love and Christian goodness. During the fasting period, you need to attend church services as often as possible, pray at home more than usual, devote time to reading the works of the holy fathers, the lives of saints, self-deepening and self-examination.

Understanding the moral state of your soul, you must try to distinguish between the main sins from their derivatives, the roots - from leaves and fruits. One should also beware of falling into petty suspicion of every movement of the heart, losing the sense of what is important and unimportant, getting entangled in trifles. The penitent must bring to confession not only a list of sins, but, most importantly, a feeling of repentance; not a detailed account of his life, but a broken heart.

Knowing your sins does not mean repenting of them. But what should we do if our heart, dried up from the sinful flame, is not irrigated with life-giving waters of tears? What if the infirmity of the spiritual and the “impossibility of the flesh” are so great that we are not capable of sincere repentance? But this cannot be a reason to postpone confession in anticipation of a feeling of repentance. The Lord accepts confession - sincere and conscientious - even if it is not accompanied by a strong feeling of repentance. Only this sin - petrified insensitivity - must be confessed courageously and frankly, without hypocrisy. God can touch the heart even during confession itself - soften it, refine spiritual vision, awaken a feeling of repentance.

The condition that we must certainly observe in order for our repentance to be accepted by the Lord effectively is the forgiveness of the sins of our neighbors and reconciliation with everyone. Repentance cannot be perfect without verbal confession of sins. Sins can only be permitted in the church sacrament of repentance performed by a priest.

Confession is a feat, self-compulsion. During confession, you do not need to wait for questions from the priest, but make an effort yourself. It is necessary to name sins exactly, without obscuring the ugliness of sin with general expressions. It is very difficult, when confessing, to avoid the temptation of self-justification, to give up attempts to explain to the confessor "extenuating circumstances", from references to third parties who allegedly led us into sin. All these are signs of self-love, lack of deep repentance, continuing stagnation in sin.

Confession is not a conversation about one's shortcomings, doubts, it is not a simple awareness of the confessor about oneself, although spiritual conversation is also very important and should take place in the life of a Christian, but confession is different, it is a sacrament, and not just a pious custom. Confession is an ardent repentance of the heart, a thirst for purification, this is the second baptism. In repentance we die to sin and are resurrected to righteousness and holiness.

Having repented, we must be strengthened inwardly in the determination not to return to confessed sin. The sign of perfect repentance is hatred and aversion to sin, a feeling of lightness, purity, inexplicable joy, when sin seems just as difficult and impossible as this joy was just far away.

Human life is so diverse, the depth of our soul is so mysterious that it is difficult to even list all the sins and sins that we commit. Therefore, when approaching the sacrament of holy confession, it is useful to remind ourselves of the fundamental violations of the moral law of the Holy Gospel. Let us carefully check our conscience and repent of our sins before the Lord God. The sacrament of holy repentance has the main goal - to awaken our spiritual consciousness, to open our eyes to ourselves, to come to our senses, to deeply understand what a destructive state our soul is in, how it is necessary to seek salvation from God, to ask tearfully and contritely for forgiveness of our countless sins before Him. The Lord Jesus Christ expects from us a sincere awareness of our deviations from His holy will and humble conversion to Him, as His unworthy servants, who have sinned many times and offended His Divine love for us.

We need to remember and deeply believe in the infinite mercy of God, which extends its arms to every converting sinner. There is no sin that God, in His inexpressible mercy, would not forgive a person who has shown sincere repentance for his sins, a firm determination to correct his life and not return to his former sins. Coming to confession, let us pray to God that with His almighty help He would open the doors of repentance for us, reconcile and unite us with Himself, grant the Holy Spirit for a new and renewed life. Amen!

He sinned by forgetting sins at confession, by self-justification in them and by diminishing their severity, by concealing sins, by repentance without contrition of heart; he did not make efforts to properly prepare for the communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, without reconciling with his neighbors, he came to confession and, in such a sinful state, dared to come to Communion.

We sinned with despondency, longing, sadness, sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch, lust, impurity and all our feelings, thoughts, words, desires, deeds. I also repent of my other sins, which I forgot and did not remember.

I repent that I angered the Lord my God with all my sins, I sincerely regret this and wish to refrain from my sins in every possible way and to correct myself. Lord our God, with tears I pray to You, our Savior, help me to establish myself in the holy intention to live like a Christian, and forgive the sins I have confessed, for I am Good and Lover of mankind. Amen.

You need to name only your committed sins from those listed here. The sins that are not listed here should be specifically said to the confessor. For convenience, sins can be written down on a piece of paper and read before the priest. Sins that were previously confessed and resolved should not be named at confession, for they have already been forgiven, but if we repeat them again, then we need to repent of them again. It is also necessary to repent of those sins that were forgotten, but are now remembered. Speaking of sins, one should not give unnecessary details and names of other persons - accomplices of sin. They must repent for themselves. Habits for sin are eradicated by prayer, fasting, abstinence, and good deeds. Confession is made in the temple after the evening service or by agreement with the priest at any time. How often should one resort to this saving sacrament? As often as possible, at least in each of the four posts.

There are people who recognize themselves as Orthodox, who do not fall into grave mortal sins, who, however, take communion only three or four times a year and do not feel the need for more. I do not think that they should be forced or even persuaded to take communion more often. Although, as far as possible, I try to explain to all Christians the meaning and salvation of the Sacrament of the Body and Blood.

If an Orthodox person takes communion on all Sundays and holidays, this is natural for a Christian. If for some reason it does not work out, let it be as it turns out. Once a month, it seems to me, every person can get out to the temple for communion, but if this is not possible, what can you do. The Lord welcomes the intention. Only it is not necessary to consider communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ a feat! If so, then it is better not to take communion at all. The Body and Blood of Christ is not our feat, but the mercy of God. But if someone wants to take communion several times in a row during the Bright Week, not in the order of achievement, but in simplicity, then what's wrong with that? If a person is not hindered by anything, I usually do not mind. But in order to constantly take communion every day, there must be serious reasons. In and of itself, this has never been a church norm. Here St. Theophan the Recluse in the last years of his life took communion every day. Let everyone look at what really incites him to extraordinarily frequent communion: the grace of God or his own vain fantasies. It is also good to consult with a confessor.

Archpriest Konstantin Ostrovsky

Preparing for Holy Communion - fasting

It is necessary to prepare oneself for the Sacrament of Holy Communion by fasting, that is, prayer, fasting, a Christian humble mood and behavior, and confession.

Prayer at home and church

Those who wish to worthily partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ must at least for a week prayerfully prepare themselves for this: pray more and more fervently at home in the morning and evening and, if possible, attend church services in the morning and evening every day during the week. If work or service interferes with regular attendance at all Divine Services, then one must go as far as circumstances permit, and, in any case, be sure to be at the evening Divine Service on the eve of the day of communion.

For worthy prayerful preparation for Holy Communion, there is a special "Rule for Holy Communion", which is placed in more complete prayer books. It consists of readings the day before from the evening of the canons: to the Sweetest Jesus, the Most Holy Theotokos, the Guardian Angel, the canon and prayers for Holy Communion and prayers for the coming sleep, and morning prayers in the morning.

Fast

Fasting is combined with prayer, that is, abstinence from fast food - meat, dairy products, butter, eggs, and in general moderation in food: you need to eat and drink less than usual.

+ main material: Orthodox posts

Mood and behavior

Those who are preparing for Holy Communion must be imbued with a deep awareness of their sinfulness, their insignificance before God and lewdness; must be reconciled with everyone and protect himself from feelings of anger and irritation, refrain from condemnation and all kinds of obscene thoughts and conversations, refuse to visit places of entertainment and houses that could give rise to falling into sin. He must meditate on the greatness of the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ, spending as much time as possible in solitude, reading the word of God and books of spiritual content.

Confession

Those who wish to take communion should, best of all, even the day before, before or after the evening service, confess - bring sincere repentance for their sins before the priest, sincerely opening their soul and not concealing a single sin they have committed. Before confession, it is necessary to reconcile with the offenders, as well as with the offended, humbly asking everyone for forgiveness. Forgiveness is usually carried out in the following form: “Forgive me, a sinner, that I have sinned against you,” to which it is customary to answer: “God will forgive you, forgive me, a sinner, too.” During confession, it is better not to wait for the priest's questions, but to express everything that burdens the soul yourself, without justifying yourself in anything and without shifting the blame onto others. To get rid of false modesty in confessing your sins, you can write them on a piece of paper and give it to the priest during confession.

It is more correct to confess the day before in the evening, so that the morning can be devoted to prayerful preparation for Holy Communion. As a last resort, one can go to confession in the morning as well, but coming to confession when the Divine Liturgy has already begun is utter disrespect for the great sacrament. Those who have not confessed are not allowed to receive Holy Communion, except in cases of mortal danger.

Having confessed, you must make a firm decision not to repeat your sins again. There is a good custom - after confession and before Holy Communion, do not eat or drink. It is definitely forbidden after midnight. Children should also be taught to abstain from food and drink before Holy Communion from a very young age.

Before and during Holy Communion

You must come to the church in advance, before the reading of the Hours. During the Divine Liturgy, before the opening of the royal doors and the removal of the Holy Gifts, shortly after the singing of “Our Father”, one should approach the steps of the altar and wait for the removal of the Holy Gifts at the exclamation: “Come with the fear of God and faith.” The brethren of the monastery are the first to receive communion (and also approach the cross, they are anointed), then the children, after the man and finally the woman. Approaching the Chalice, you need to make a bow to the ground in advance, from a distance, and on Sundays and Lord's holidays - bow from the waist, touching the floor with your hand, and fold your arms crosswise on your chest - right over left. In no case should you be baptized before the Holy Chalice, so as not to accidentally push the Holy Chalice, clearly pronounce your full Christian name, open your mouth wide and reverently, with full awareness of the sanctity of the great Mystery, accept the Body and Blood of Christ and immediately swallow it.

After Holy Communion

Having received the Holy Mysteries, without being baptized, kiss the edge of the Chalice and immediately approach the table with warmth to drink and taste a particle of antidoron.

Until the end of the Divine service, do not leave the church, but be sure to listen to prayers of thanksgiving. On this day - the day of Holy Communion, do not eat too much, do not get drunk on alcoholic beverages, and generally behave reverently and decently, in order to "honestly keep Christ accepted in yourself."

All of the above is also obligatory for children, starting from the age of seven, when children come to confession for the first time.

Who is not allowed to receive communion and who is not allowed to receive communion

Holy Communion must not be taken:

those who have enmity against their neighbor,

unbaptized

who does not constantly wear a pectoral cross,

who had not been at the evening service the day before and who had not gone to confession,

eaten in the morning

late for the Divine Liturgy,

not fasting

who have not read the Rules for Holy Communion,

women who have an unsuitable state of health and appearance for the church, namely: during the period of monthly cleansing, with an uncovered head, in trousers, with cosmetics on their faces and especially painted lips.

The basis for the prohibition in communion for a longer or shorter period can only be a serious sin (fornication, murder, theft, witchcraft, denial of Christ, obvious heresy, sins of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit:
Despair is a feeling that denies paternal goodness in God and leads to suicide.
Perseverance in unbelief, denial of any evidence of the existence of God, even obvious miracles.
Excessive hope in God, or stagnation in a sinful life in one hope for God's mercy.
sins crying out to heaven for vengeance for them:
Intentional homicide, especially patricide, fratricide, or regicide.
Sodomy sin, artificial sex change (transsexuals).
The oppression of a wretched person, a defenseless widow and young orphans.
Withholding from a poor worker honestly earned wages; deception and robbing a beggar, appropriation of the property of a prisoner or a sick person.
Grieving parents and inflicting grave insults or even beatings on them), or a moral state that is completely incompatible with communion (for example, refusal to reconcile with a repentant offender).

Excommunication from the Eucharist - in Orthodoxy, penance, consisting in excommunication from communion of the Holy Mysteries, was appointed for sins that were obvious and more important. There was such an indication of the rules of the holy fathers regarding the terms of excommunication:

heretics and schismatics - until they renounce their errors,
bloodsuckers - for 12 years,
adulterers - from 9 to 15 years,
killers - up to 25 years,
males - up to 15 years,
cattle breeders - up to 15 years or until the end of life,
perjurers - up to 10 years,
wizards - up to 25 years old,
grave diggers - for 10 years.

Penance is a special obedience that a confessing priest offers to perform to a penitent sinner for his spiritual benefit. As a penance, a ban on communion for a certain time, an increase in the daily prayer rule, and additional reading of the psalter, canons, akathists with a certain number of prostrations can be prescribed. Sometimes, as a penance, an increased fast, a pilgrimage to the shrines of the Church, almsgiving, and concrete help to one's neighbor are appointed.

Also non-Orthodox, who visits the parishes of non-canonical, schismatic church associations (Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic churches, the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - the Kiev Patriarchate, etc.) and sects. Such people must repent for having consciously or unconsciously been in schism and thereby neglected the divine teaching about the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, violating the decrees of the Ecumenical Councils.

An example of a short confession to a confessor:

I confess, sinful (sinful), servant (s) of God (s) (name)

Having named the sins, you need to carefully listen to the answer of the priest, who at the end will read the permissive prayer.

Confession is considered a Christian rite, in which the confessing person repents and repents of his sins in the hope of forgiveness by God Christ. The Savior himself established this sacrament and told the disciples the words that are recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, ch. 18, verse 18. This is also mentioned in the Gospel of John, ch. 20, verses 22-23.

sacrament of confession

According to the holy fathers, repentance is also considered a second baptism. Man during baptism cleansed from sin the firstborn, which was transmitted to everyone from the first ancestors of Adam and Eve. And after the rite of baptism, during repentance, personal washing occurs. When a person performs the sacrament of repentance, he must be honest and aware of his sins, sincerely repenting of them, and not repeat the sin, believing in the hope of salvation by Jesus Christ and His mercy. The priest reads a prayer and cleansing from sins takes place.

Many who do not want to repent of their sins often say that they have no sins: “I didn’t kill, I didn’t steal, I didn’t commit adultery, so I have nothing to repent of?” This is stated in the first Epistle of John in the first chapter, verse 17 - "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." This means that sinful events happen every day, if you delve into the essence of God's commandments. There are three categories of sin: sin against the Lord God, sin against loved ones, and sin against oneself.

List of sins against Jesus Christ

List of sins against loved ones

List of sins against yourself

All of the above sins are divided into three categories, in the final analysis, all this is against the Lord God. After all, the transgression of the commandments created by Him is carried out, therefore, there is a direct insult to God. All these sins do not give positive results, but on the contrary, the soul will not be saved from this.

Proper Preparation for Confession

It is necessary to prepare for the sacrament of confession with all seriousness; for this, one should engage in premature preparation. Enough remember and write down on a piece of paper all the sins committed, as well as read detailed information about the sacrament of confession. You should take a piece of paper for the ceremony and read everything again before the process. The same sheet can be given to the confessor, but grave sins must be spoken aloud. It is enough to talk about the sin itself, and not list long stories, for example, if there is enmity in the family, and with neighbors, one should repent for the main sin - condemnation of neighbors and loved ones.

In this rite, the confessor and God are not interested in numerous sins, the meaning itself is important - sincere repentance for the sins committed, the sincere feeling of a person, a contrite heart. Confession is not just an awareness of one's sinful past deeds, but also the desire to wash them off. Justifying oneself in sins is not a cleansing, it is unacceptable. Elder Silouan of Athos said that if a person hates sin, then God asks for these sins.

It will be great if a person from each past day draws conclusions, and each time truly repents of sins, writing them down on paper, and for serious sins, it is necessary to confess to a confessor in the church. You should immediately ask for forgiveness from people who have been offended by word or deed. There is a rule in the Orthodox prayer book - the Penitential Canon, which must be read intensively in the evenings before the sacrament of confession itself.

It is important to find out the schedule of the temple, on what day you can confess. There are many churches in which daily services are held, and the daily sacrament of confession also takes place there. And in the rest learn about the schedule of church services.

How to confess to children

Children under the age of seven are considered infants, they can receive communion without prior confession. But it is important to accustom them from childhood to the feeling of incense. Without the necessary preparation, frequent communion causes a reluctance to engage in this work. Desirable in a few days set up children for the sacrament, an example is the reading of the Holy Scriptures and children's Orthodox literature. Reduce TV viewing time. Supervise the fulfillment of morning and evening prayers. If a child has done bad deeds in the past days, then you should talk to him and instill in him a sense of shame for what he has done. But you always need to know: the child takes an example from his parents.

After the age of seven, one can begin confession on an equal footing with adults, but without a preliminary sacrament. The sins listed above are performed in large numbers by children, so children's communion has its own nuances.

To help children sincerely confess, it is necessary to give a list of sins:

This is a superficial list of possible sins. There are many personal sins for each child, based on their thoughts and actions. An important goal of parents is to prepare the child for repentance. Need a child he himself wrote down all his sins without the fate of his parents- You don't have to write for it. He must understand that it is necessary to sincerely confess and repent of bad deeds.

How to confess in church

Confession falls on morning and evening time days. Being late for such an event is considered unacceptable. A group of repentant begins to complete the process by reading the rites. When the priest begins to ask the names of the participants who came to confession, one should answer neither loudly nor quietly. Latecomers are not accepted for confession. At the end of the confession, the priest re-reads the rites, accepting the sacrament. Women during the natural monthly cleansing are not allowed to such an event.

It is necessary to behave in the temple with dignity and not interfere with the rest of the confessors and the priest. It is not allowed to embarrass the people who came to this work. There is no need to confess one category of sins and leave another for later. Those sins that were named last time are not reread again. It is desirable to perform the sacrament with the same priest. In the sacrament, a person repents not before the confessor, but before the Lord God.

In large churches, many penitents gather and in this case they use "general confession". The bottom line is that the priest pronounces common sins, and those who confess repent. Further, everyone must come under the permissive prayer. When confession takes place for the first time, you should not come to such a general procedure.

First time visit private confession, if there is none, then at a general confession it is necessary to take the last place in line and listen to what they say to the priest at confession. It is advisable to explain the whole situation to the priest, he will tell you how to confess for the first time. Then comes true repentance. If in the process of repentance a person kept silent about a grave sin, then he will not be forgiven. At the end of the sacrament, a person is obliged, after reading the permissive prayer, to kiss the Gospel and the cross, which lie on the lectern.

Proper preparation for the sacrament

On the days of fasting, which last for seven days, fasting is established. Diet should not include fish, dairy, meat and egg products. On such days, sexual intercourse should not be performed. Must go to church frequently. Read the Penitential Canon and observe the rules of prayer. On the eve of the sacrament, you must arrive at the service in the evening. Before going to bed, you should read the canons of the Archangel Michael, our Lord Jesus Christ and the Mother of God. If this is not possible, such prayer rules can be shifted for several days during fasting.

Children have a hard time remembering and perceiving prayer rules, so you should choose the amount that you can afford, but you need to discuss this with the confessor. To prepare gradually increase the number of prayer rules. Most people confuse the rules of confession and communion. Here it is necessary to prepare in stages. To do this, you should ask the priest for advice, who will tell you about more accurate preparation.

sacrament of communion carried out on an empty stomach, you should not eat food and water from 12 o'clock, you should also not smoke. This does not apply to children under seven years of age. But they need to be accustomed to this a year before the adult sacrament. Morning prayers should also be read for Holy Communion. During the morning confession, it is necessary to arrive at the right time without delay.

Participle

The sacrament was established by the Lord God at the Last Supper, when Christ broke bread with the disciples and drank wine with them. Participle helps to enter the kingdom of heaven and therefore incomprehensible to the human mind. Women are not allowed to attend communion in makeup, and on ordinary Sundays, they should wipe their lips from their lips. On menstrual days, women are not allowed to the Sacrament., as well as those who have recently given birth, for the latter, you need to read the prayer of the fortieth day.

When the priest comes out with the Sacred Gifts, participants are required to bow. Next, you need to carefully listen to the prayers, repeating to yourself. Then you should fold your arms in a cross on your chest and go to the bowl. Children should go first, then men, and then women. Near the cup, one's name is pronounced, and thus, the communicant accepts the Gifts of the Lord. After Communion, the deacon processes his lips with the help of a plate, then you need to kiss the edge of the bowl and go to the table. Here a person takes a drink and uses the prosphora part.

At the end, the participants listen to prayers and pray until the end of the service. Then you should go to the cross and carefully listen to the prayer of thanksgiving. In the end, everyone goes home, but in the church one cannot speak empty words and interfere with each other. On this day, you need to behave with dignity and not defile your purity with sinful deeds.
