The main character of the second part was Sergeant James Heller, whose wife and daughter died in the recent outbreak of the epidemic. The government blamed Alex Mercer for the tragedy in New York, and the new protagonist, believing the official version, also blamed him for his personal grief.
At the beginning of the game, James was part of the peacekeeping force patrolling the streets of infected New York in an armored car. Suddenly, the combat vehicle was literally swept away by another armored personnel carrier, and the character lost consciousness.
When he woke up, he found that his comrades were dead, and Alex Mercer suddenly appeared next to him. Wanting to avenge his family, the sergeant entered into an unequal battle with the super mutant, but all attempts to kill him were in vain. Heller was a real professional and literally ripped Mercer open several times with a huge combat knife, but the latter remained unharmed. Moreover, he began to scoff at the veteran soldier.
In pursuit of Mercer, James faced a large number of various monsters, with some of them he entered into battle, and from especially large specimens he had to carry his legs.
And now the "main villain" was overtaken, but Heller again could not oppose anything to him, as a result of which he was seriously wounded.
The sergeant woke up on the operating table in the laboratory of the Gentech corporation. The doctor and representatives of the "black watch" who were nearby, in a conversation with each other, mentioned that James is now the property of Gentech and experiments will be carried out on him. He also found out that he was infected with a virus, thanks to which he survived.
The "series of experiments" was a horde of zombies chasing the unfortunate sergeant. During the battle, it turned out that he was able to literally destroy them with his bare hands. In the midst of the fight, a command was sent to burn everything alive and inanimate in the box. A flame blazed out and everything went dark.
Heller woke up at the moment when the soldiers of the "black watch" poured bursts of machine guns over his charred remains. At this moment, a new ability opened - "absorption", which consisted in the fact that he was able to absorb the enemy and fully recover from a severe injury. In the course of a further encounter with the zombies, James was burned again, but, like the first time, this could not destroy him.
In the end, thanks to his remarkable strength and jumping ability, the sergeant managed to escape from Gentek's laboratory. In one of the alleys, Mercer was waiting for Heller. He said that there is no epidemic in the city - this is the official version of the government. In fact, the Gentek biological weapon is being tested, and the Black Watch is looking after the whole process. All new types of monsters that appeared on the streets of the city were bred in the laboratories of the corporation.
As proof of his innocence, Mercer forced James to absorb one of the soldiers of the "black watch" and, along with life energy, his memories were passed on to him. Further, Mercer said that the sergeant was his chosen one, and asked him to get DNA of a new virus from one of the Gentek laboratories.
Walking out into the streets of New York, Heller found a bleak picture: the area of the city, turned into a quarantine zone, looked like a large concentration camp. Everywhere scurried "black patrol", one of whose patrols tried to stop the sergeant for inspection.
In the course of the clash that followed this event, it turned out that, like Mercer in the first part, Heller is capable of running along the walls of buildings and flying almost unlimited distances. In addition, it became possible to shoot down helicopters with heavy objects of the environment (external blocks of chillers, cars and other objects).
Breaking away from the pursuit, he assumed the appearance of the previously absorbed captain of the "black watch" and went to the nearest highest point of the city to look around. Finding his bearings in the area, James proceeded to the nearest church, in which his acquaintance the priest Guerra served.
The priest prompted the sergeant that the two commanders of the "black watch" set up their headquarters from the local hospital. She became the next target of the main character's visit.
Further, it is worth noting that the opened area of the city, although it was a "mini-sandbox", but in it the protagonist was free to go wherever he liked. True, in this, albeit limited, but completely open world, there was nothing to do.
Upon reaching the hospital, James discovered a new ability - "hunter mode". With his help, he could track down the target he needed.
Prototype 2 is a continuation of the third-person action game with RPG elements. The game was released in 2012 and received colder reviews from the public and game journalism than the first part. The main character of the second part is a young sergeant who has undergone the influence of a mutation. The new game completely repeats the gameplay of the first part with minor innovations. Most fans of the series didn't like the new protagonist. After Alex from the first Prototype, Sergeant James looks pretty dull. The history of Prototype 2, the system requirements of which you will find out below, also does not cause a storm of emotions and worries for the main character.
In the new part, the set of abilities has been redesigned. The character has learned to use more than 10 skills, which are opened by leveling up and distributing ability points.
The developers have not forgotten about the expansion of the arsenal. Despite the fact that most of the time the hero uses superpowers, the game has a place for a large selection of melee weapons and firearms. For Prototype 2, the system requirements have practically not changed since the first part - the good optimization of the game engine affects. The vehicle fleet was also expanded. Most of the vehicles are military equipment.
All action takes place in New York Zero. This place before the infection was ordinary New York. The entire territory is divided into three locations, or zones. Red is extremely dangerous for healthy people - these locations are completely covered by the virus, and getting there is equivalent to death for an ordinary person. The yellow zone is the border between the surviving areas of the city and the contaminated area. The dead zone is a complete absence of life - in these areas, either mutants are completely exterminated along with the architecture of the city, or the mutation has completely absorbed the area. Although the system requirements in Prototype 2 are quite high, the game engine produces a very mediocre picture. Most likely, due to the large number of open spaces in the game, the developers made sacrifices in the direction of performance rather than graphics quality.
To play in good resolution and with medium graphics quality settings, you need the following PC configuration: a quad-core processor with a frequency of 3GHz, 4GB of RAM, a video card with 1GB of memory and 10GB of free hard drive space for installation.
