Hi-tech is ... Style in architecture and design

The word "hi-tech" in translation from English means "high technology". This is not to say that our compatriots are fans of this nano-style. But nevertheless, they often borrow a bit of dynamism, originality and fresh ideas in it. From this we can conclude that the interior of the apartment in the high-tech style looks both relevant and avant-garde. It will be the perfect option for creative people who keep up with the times.

But when decorating an apartment, guided by this style decision, it is very important not to overdo it, combining the incongruous. Otherwise, the whole furnishings of your home will look ridiculous. Therefore, designers strongly recommend that you carefully study the high-tech direction in the interior, its difference from other styles, and also take into account the appropriateness of its use in each specific room.

Style history

The high-tech direction was first mentioned by archaeologists in the early eighties of the twentieth century. It is generally accepted that this style is a product of the late modernism era. A few years after its discovery, it rapidly began to come into fashion, gradually spreading throughout the world. Echoing the direction of pop art and illustrations to works of the sci-fi genre, high-tech design has become, as they say, a real challenge to long-rooted traditions. It is interesting that the new solution looked not only very lively, but also really original.

Center Pompidou

The Pompidou Center (erected in 1977 in Paris) is considered to be a classic of the high-tech genre. The French every now and then criticized him, saying that the building only disfigures the historic center of the city. But over time, the building became a national pride, and now the French consider the Center Pompidou one of the most beautiful sights of their capital.

Unlike French architects, English architects immediately fell in love with high-tech style. This is clear from how actively they began to promote it. Buildings built in this style could previously be counted on the fingers of one hand. But in the late 80s of the last century, architects began to massively develop house designs. High-tech has become increasingly used for interior decoration work. The popularity of the style increased with each ode, and its peak came in the mid-nineties. But, as we can see, in the modern world this bright style has not lost its relevance.

Basic principles of high-tech style

Architecture and design in the style we are considering have the following common features.

  1. The lines are distinguished by simplicity, rigor and clarity. But flat surfaces and right angles are not as simple as they seem at first glance: they hide shelves and drawers hidden in themselves, household appliances and built-in wardrobes. In the world of design, such a decision is usually called “complex simplicity”. Carefully disguised lockers are another example.
  2. Elements from plastic, glass, concrete and metal are used. Such materials are popularly called industrial, in contrast to stone and wood, which are considered natural. The latter, however, high-tech design either completely excludes or carefully disguises.
  3. It is customary to leave brick and concrete elements in their natural form, only occasionally a thin layer of plaster can be applied to them. House projects made in this style are interesting in their own way. High-tech in the interior of the premises completely excludes not only gilding, exquisite wallpapers, but also other various kinds of decorations. And it still looks expensive and presentable.
  4. Partitions and sliding doors can often be found in rooms. They are made, as a rule, of metal with plastic inserts, or sometimes they are made of wood, while not decorating with anything.
  5. High-tech differs from other styles in many built-in lamps. They are attached not only to ceilings and walls, but also to the floor. The backlight is also placed on built-in metal furniture.
  6. In the high-tech style, the main colors are metallic, black, white and gray. Rooms are decorated with avant-garde sculptures and paintings, as well as black and white prints and photographs on a variety of topics.
  7. The most modern technology, which is located everywhere, is considered an obligatory attribute of the style. One of the main design elements are various devices of the latest models, which are used not only for their intended purpose, but also for decorating a room.
  8. In the high-tech style, it is not customary to hide tubular structures and various communications, so here they are displayed for everyone to see.

Premises dominated by high-tech design look not only as spacious as possible, they are also truly comfortable. It should be noted that the use of this style in its pure form gives an overly "cold" interior. It follows from this that when decorating an apartment in this style, it is better not to drive yourself into a frame, but to add other style solutions, while softening the dryness of pure high-tech. Next, we will consider for which rooms such a decor will be appropriate.

A high-tech hallway is an extension of a small space

The entrance hall always differs from other rooms in its small area. And since the architecture and design in the style we are considering is characterized by dynamism, functionality and simplicity, it is here that hi-tech is what you need. For example, if you decorate a small room with various decorative elements, then it will seem even smaller than it really is. Therefore, it is precisely the simple and clear lines of the style that are exactly what you need in the hallway.

Bathroom and high-tech style - conciseness and convenience

In the bathroom, just like in the hallway, there is relatively little space, but I want to put a huge number of things in it. So the high-tech style will be ideal in this case as well. Shiny chrome or glass surfaces look great in the bathroom. In addition to all this, you cannot do without metal and glass interior decor elements in the bathroom.

To make the bathroom look not only stylish and modern, but also comfortable, get either a square shape made of metal or glass. Tiles in monochromatic colors, bright faucets, large-sized mirrors - this is exactly what can successfully complement the interior.

And note that the dominant colors should be classic gray or metallic gray. Revitalize the environment with red, blue and yellow details. In this color palette, you can choose containers for liquid soap or shelves.

Living room - the kingdom of modern technology

As in the previous example, if the living room is small, then use the high-tech style in its design. In this case, the apartment as a whole will appear visually more spacious. But even in a large living room, this style solution will look advantageous. Recently, very often the living room has been combined with the kitchen area - this is where comfortable partitions made of plastic and glass come in.

A high-tech living room needs extremely modern technology, because choosing novelty, you have to keep the brand. Therefore, you will need to forever forget about your favorite old TV and speakers from the last century - such items, as you know, will definitely not fit into the new interior. Let's leave them for the retro design.

What else does the chosen design imply? High-tech in the interior does not go well with carpets in bright tons and with a long pile. Your home will look perfect if you choose glossy or smooth flooring, wallpaper in a solid color scheme, or painted walls and ceilings.

Bedroom and hi-tech

The recreation area should be comfortable and as convenient as possible. From this it follows that it is not recommended to decorate a bedroom in the style of high technology - the result obtained will seem too strict. But some of the bright chips can be used successfully.

For example, a bed that does not have a headboard, but there is a built-in lighting, will look great. The addition will serve as wallpaper in gray color or without a pattern at all. If you install a couple of lamps in the avant-garde style in the bedroom, then the seating area will become original and modern.

Children

Parents very rarely design children's rooms in such an avant-garde style. Kids are best suited for cartoon characters and teddy bears on the wallpaper, soft fabrics, delicate blue and pink colors. From the above, the conclusion suggests itself that the interior design of a children's room in a high-tech style solution is very difficult to meet.

Children, however, grow rapidly, turning with each new day into restless teenagers who love everything not only new, but also original. In a schoolchild's room, with the help of individual elements of high-tech style, you can successfully arrange not only a work area, but also a great place to relax. And if the teenager likes this approach, then you can start decorating the room in accordance with the tastes of the child.

High-tech kitchen - what could be better?

It is in the kitchen area, where there is a lot of modern technology, that the high-tech style can be used to the fullest. In the kitchen, the designer has a place to roam. He can place all equipment in hidden and secret cabinets. The work is constantly in full swing here, and "high technologies" will fit here just perfectly.

The tile for the apron should be monochromatic. But designers still recommend making it metallic or matte, made of glass. Lighting located above the workspace, simple furniture, austere facades - this is how a dynamic and shiny high-tech kitchen should look like.

A high-tech office is a successful combination of practicality and refined taste

Laconicism, functionality and brightness of the high-tech style are fully revealed in the offices for work. A dull space is replaced by a brilliant example of modern functionality. You can invite any VIP-client to such an office without shame, and he will be amazed by what he sees. You can use the "high technology" style both in the office of the general director and in the general work area. For example, partitions made of metal and glass plus the most modern office equipment - what could be better?

Considering all of the above points and the wishes of the designers, we come to the conclusion that interior design in high-tech style is quite appropriate not only in office buildings, but also in ordinary residential premises. Of course, not everyone will like this solution. Many are of the opinion that the completed projects of houses (for which high-tech has become the main one) are too similar to offices. Well, you don't need to convince them. Everyone should choose what he likes. But for those who cannot imagine themselves without freedom and independence, without a bright and dynamic life, for those who value functionality and laconism at the same time, high-tech style is the most ideal and correct solution in housing design.
