DIY ring cushion: an original wedding gift. Wedding pillow for rings: design options and a master class on making your own DIY pillow for rings: a step-by-step master class with photos

“Spring Cleaning” is the name of Madame Chantilly’s design, which I fell in love with immediately as soon as I opened the book “Le point de croix au fil des saisons” (maybe some of you will even remember how I blogged about this exactly a year ago). And therefore, when the editor-in-chief of the Lukoshko Ideas magazine offered me a publication in the March issue, the image of this cute bunny appeared in my head. True, I did not embroider the entire design, but only its main part. We had to abandon the frame and inscription, otherwise the size of the bellpull would not have been 20*30 cm, but much larger. The editors of the magazine asked me to sew a bellpull, and I decided what it would be like myself. I wanted to make it functional, so the bellpull has a pocket at the bottom, divided into two compartments. And the braid, attached to the base with three buttons, serves not only for decoration, but also for hanging various notes or pens from it. Bellpull is made of orange and green cotton in small gro...

Well, I love bags! And as usual, you won’t find the one I need in the store. The shape is always not the same, or the size is too big, or the bottom is too voluminous... :(In short, it’s easier to sew it yourself! Soon, you’ll probably have to master working with leather and leatherette, so that you can provide yourself with bags for the autumn-winter period: )) In general, around 2012 I embroidered these strawberries from the magazine “De fil en aiguille” (HS 17) onto a flap for a cosmetic bag. Then I decided that it would be too much for a cosmetic bag, and decided to use it for a purse. I decided on the size and model at the same time, but the only fabric that was suitable was red - not my color at all (in fact, just like green). Maybe that's why they lay idle for so long. I can't find any other explanation for this. The handbag turned out to be international: I bought red fabric with polka dots in a store at Vasilinka, green - in Milan, fabric with poppies I ordered for America, and a belt for the handle and metal accessories...

A wedding is a great occasion to get creative and give a gift to the newlyweds! We will talk about such a wonderful accessory as a DIY ring cushion. It can be sewn from light-colored fabric, decorated with decorative flowers, ribbons, braid, beads, etc. Or it can be cross-stitched! We’ll talk about how to sew a pillow decorated with embroidery.

So, in order for the newlyweds to be presented with rings on an exclusive pillow, we will need:

  • embroidered elements of the pillow (the names of the newlyweds and the wedding date are embroidered on the reverse side, but you don’t have to embroider them)
  • padding polyester for filling the pillow
  • lace braid to decorate the edge (3-5 m)
  • satin ribbon for bows (1 m)
  • paper, scissors
  • if desired, beads, beads and other decorations, here are Swarovski rhinestones

Let's get started!

1. The embroidery is finished, washed, dried and ironed. It is necessary to make a heart template, according to which the fabric will then be cut. You can do it like this to see if the embroidery is lying evenly

2. Having made sure (checked 100 times!!!) that everything is even and symmetrical, with a marking marker we draw the outline of a heart along the edge of the template

3. On the back we do the same and then cut out 2 halves of the future heart

4. Before sewing them together, you need to sew on ribbon-bows for the rings. Fold the ribbon as follows and secure in the middle with a thread:

5. And then sew both bows to the front of the pillow

6. The lace braid can be sewn in 2 rows to make it look more pompous. Therefore, sew and gather the required amount in advance (it’s tedious, but it’s worth it!)

7. Now the important moment!!! We bring both halves face to face, and between them we lay the braid so that when turned inside out, it neatly sticks out. That is, the part of the braid that will stick out in the form of frills is directed inside the heart, and the one that remains inside is now outside

Sew with a running stitch, leaving about 1 cm from the edge. We are not sewing to the end!!! Leave a hole to turn the pad out and fill it with padding poly (the width of your palm is enough).

8. Then carefully turn the pad inside out and check if everything is in order

Pay attention to the place where the heart shape is given on top. Hide the ribbon inside and then take it out again, thereby visually giving the pillow the desired heart shape. If you sew the braid completely, it doesn’t turn out very well (tested))

9. If everything suits you, turn it inside out again and machine stitch it. If you don’t have a machine, you can stitch it tighter by hand. Then we turn it inside out, straighten it properly and steam it.

10. Let's move on to filling. Cut the padding polyester in the shape of a heart using the same pattern so that the pad is filled evenly. If the padding polyester is thin, then cut out 4 hearts, it will be just right.

11. Carefully, slowly, fill the pad with padding polyester, distributing it evenly throughout the entire volume. If 4 layers are not enough, you can add more in places to get the appropriate shape

We filled it, straightened it out, now we sew up the hole with a hidden seam. The work is painstaking, I must say, but almost everything is ready!

First step. We will stretch a white canvas onto the hoop and, using the diagram suggested below, with threads of a delicate salad color, we will embroider all the greenery that should be depicted on our embroidery.

Third step. Following the heart, we will embroider loose roses in a bouquet using soft lilac and pink floss threads.

Fourth step. Finally, we will embroider a couple of wedding rings inside the heart and finish the cross stitch work. Please note that in the diagram proposed above there are no wedding rings; we decided to supplement them ourselves, so we provide an additional diagram of the rings themselves below. Despite the fact that our embroidery will be done on a pad, which means that its back part will not be visible, we should embroider very carefully so that there are no knots, puffs, etc.

Fifth step. After this, we need to cut out from the canvas a part of the base of a rectangular pillow with sides twelve and a half centimeters by ten centimeters, so that the previously completed embroidery is located in the center of one of the two front sides. In our case, it turned out as shown in the photo below.

Sixth step. Next, we need to connect the parts along the edges to get a pillow, for this we take a crochet hook No. 1 and use soft pink floss threads to tie both parts around the perimeter with one row of single crochets, knitting each new stitch from the fourth square of the canvas of one row.

Seventh step. Having tied three sides of the future pillow, we leave the fourth temporarily uncovered and fill the product with artificial filler (sintepon) through it. Here it is important to distribute the filling evenly and make the pillow not very thick and protruding, because we are not making a comfortable pincushion, but a romantic pillow for wedding rings. After the pillow is stuffed, we tie one row of single crochets with soft pink floss thread and the fourth side of the product.

Eighth step. After this, we will tie the pillow in the second row with a fantasy pattern, with a lilac thread according to the following pattern: ** from the first column of the bottom row we knit one single crochet - from the second column of the bottom row we knit one single crochet and one single crochet - from the third bottom column we knit two columns each with one crochet - from the fourth column of the bottom row we knit one column with one crochet and one single crochet - from the fifth column of the bottom row we knit one single crochet**. We continue to tie the pad around the perimeter from ** to **.

Ninth step. Next we will need a thin white satin ribbon, approximately thirty-five centimeters. We fold it exactly in half and carefully sew it along the fold of the ribbon with several small hidden stitches to the pillow in the place where the embroidered stems of the bouquet diverge. This ribbon is needed to put wedding rings on it and tie it in a beautiful bow.

Tenth step. Our unusual, very delicate and elegant wedding pillow for wedding rings is ready!

A wedding is an exciting event in the life of every girl, so you should carefully consider all the details that form a harmonious, charming celebration. The decor of the glasses, the hall, the cutlery - everything should be in the same style, which corresponds to the theme of the ceremony. Don't forget about details like the ring pad. We will tell you how to sew a pillow for wedding rings. It will be nice to photograph the rings on such a handmade item; it will be an eye-catcher at the ceremony.

Master class: DIY pillow for engagement wedding rings

Every bride has her own idea of what her wedding ceremony should be like. Not a single lady will let the entire organization take its course and give it completely into the wrong hands. Some may think that a pillow for wedding rings is a trifle that is not worth attention, because at the wedding you will see it in a matter of minutes. But this is not so, because this cute little thing will be captured in the photo and be included in the unified image of the entire celebration, so it must be stylish, beautiful and unique.

To sew an accessory for wedding rings, you first need to decide on its shape. An accessory made with your own hands will be unique, with a twist, unlike a purchased one. It is better to sketch out all the ideas that come to your mind in the smallest detail. Show your imagination, use your creative abilities and create an original thing. There are many options for decorating ring cushions:

  • Embroider your own names on the place where the rings will lie. To do this, choose embroidery threads, pearls, beads, ribbons, and fabric.
  • It is not forbidden to decorate the pillow with your photo. To do this, you need to print it on fabric in the salon and then trim it.
  • Decoration with boutonnieres and appliques.
  • Decorate with ruffles along the edge of the product - choose braid, lace, ribbons, make gathers.
  • Embroidery around the edge of the floral design. In this case, it is interesting to combine several types of embroidery: for example, glass beads, beads and threads.
  • A heart-shaped pillow made of red satin or velvet looks very bright. It does not require additional decor, as it looks impressive on its own.
  • The cushion for the rings can be decorated with embroidered words of a vow of love.
  • It is not forbidden to sew a pillow in the shape of a shoe, toy, bird, etc.
  • The cushions for rings, which are decorated with artificial flowers and retro lace, look very interesting.
  • It is not forbidden to arrange a bed for rings on a flower-shaped stand.
  • An interesting technique is to put the calendar date of your celebration on the pillow.
  • It is not forbidden to give the pillow the appearance of a nest, basket, shell, heart, or flower bed.
  • The ring cushion can be placed in a book with a hiding place cut out inside.

This detail should be combined with the overall style of the wedding:

  • Classic - choose a fabric that matches the tone of the main color of the wedding. Fresh flowers, lace, and ribbons are used as decoration.

  • Glamorous - characterized by expensive fabrics, with large flowers, sparkles, rhinestones, large brooches, feathers, and beads.

  • Rustic style - it is characterized by burlap or other coarse fabric, lace, ribbons, flowers, knitted fabric, and the use of wooden details for decoration.

  • Retro - fabric of muted shades, lace, antique brooches, beads, polka dot fabrics.

  • Themed wedding - if the theme is nautical, then you should decorate the accessory in the same spirit, or use striped fabric.

Materials and tools

Once you have decided on the design of your wedding ring accessories, it's time to start shopping. Choose fabrics and accessories that you will need in the process. Most pads are made of white material to match the dress. Give preference to velvet, satin, chintz, silk, satin. It is better to stock up on a larger piece than is required for one product, because the first pancake may come out lumpy. In addition, you will need the following materials:

  • textile;
  • scissors:
  • threads;
  • needles;
  • synthetic winterizer, holofiber or cotton wool;
  • glue;
  • embroidery threads;
  • items for decoration: lace, rhinestones, sequins, beads, beads, ribbons, etc.

Pad size

If you want to make a wedding accessory for rings in the classic version in the shape of a square, then traditionally its size is 10x10 or 15x15 cm, no more. It is important not to exceed the given dimensions, otherwise the rings may get lost in the decor, but they play the main role. Pads of other shapes should also not go beyond the boundaries. A large accessory does not look touching and gentle.

Here are step-by-step instructions for creating a stylish wedding ring accessory. To make it you will need:

  • cardboard;
  • pencil;
  • white satin;
  • pink satin ribbon 0.5x30 cm;
  • white satin ribbon 1x50 cm and 0.5x30 cm;
  • padding polyester;
  • white threads;
  • white lace;
  • scissors;
  • needle;
  • ruler;
  • candle;
  • pins with eyes.

Step-by-step master class:

  • We cut out a cardboard template 10x10 cm. Fold the fabric in half with the front side inward, draw a contour according to the template, cut out the blank, departing from the contour 1 cm allowance.

  • We prepare lace measuring 5x12 cm. We place the lace on the front side of one satin square on both sides, close to the edge, and attach it to the fabric with pins. There will be a strip of free space in the middle on the fabric where the tape will go.
  • Place the second square of atlas face down on top. We fasten with pins.

  • We sew two satin pieces of fabric along the contour, leaving part unsewn.
  • We cut off the corners.

  • Turn the workpiece inside out.
  • We stuff the ring pad with padding polyester.

  • We make a seam on the pad until the end.
  • We singe the ends of a thicker white satin ribbon and wrap it around the pillow in the center.

  • We tie it in a knot. We tie it with another white ribbon, thinner, twice. Rings will be attached to the ends of the tape.
  • We tie the ends of a wide white ribbon with a bow.
  • We pass a pink ribbon through the top knot of the bow and tie it with a bow.

Wedding accessories are charming details that create and complement the unified image of this most important celebration in life. The decor of the festive hall, glasses and cutlery, the design of the place where the ceremony itself takes place - all this should be designed in a single style that matches the thematic direction of the wedding. Of course, you shouldn’t forget about such pleasant little things as a pillow for rings, because this detail is of particular importance in the wedding whirlwind. Thus, it is customary to photograph the rings of those getting married on a delicate and elegant pillow; in addition, it pleases the eye during the ceremony.

Carrying out rings on a beautiful pillow is rather a Western tradition, since in Russian registry offices newlyweds remove the symbols of their marriage ties from a special saucer, which is issued by an employee of the institution. This tradition is common in Slavic countries. Cushions are more suitable for outdoor ceremonies, which are common in the USA and Europe, which is where we got the idea to use special soft holders for wedding rings. Sometimes a child () can carry the rings on a pillow, adding an additional touch of tenderness to the ceremony.

Wedding pillows are now sold in all specialized salons. They can be made in the same spirit with the dress and details of the groom’s suit - this adds elegance and sophistication to the decor. Often, a pillow is ordered from a handmade decor master or from special companies that produce custom wedding accessories. This product is sewn mainly from expensive fabrics of all shades of white, less often - other colors. Brocade, satin ribbons, lace, natural silk, beaded jewelry, pearls and organza can be used. The accessory is decorated with embroidery, rhinestones, twigs, and fresh flowers.

Rings on the cushion are usually attached to a delicate bow or one of the satin ribbons, which creates a charming image that stands out in professional photographs. During registration, the couple or the registry office employee pulls the ribbon and the rings are carefully released. This small ritual makes the wedding even more touching.

Ring pad size

If the pad is made in the classic square version, its size should be no more than 15x15 cm. They do it more often 10×10 cm.

It is important not to exceed these dimensions so that the rings do not get lost in the decor and remain the main characters of this composition. Pads in the shape of a circle, heart, flower, etc. should be about the same size. Sometimes they make large pillows - almost the size of a sofa cushion, but they no longer look so tender and touching.

Cushion for wedding rings: design options

Pillows decorated with retro lace and artificial flowers look original. Some weddings use a stand in the shape of a large gerbera or chamomile flower, the core of which is a bed for rings.

If the wedding decor is far from the classic white and pink color scheme, since a Provencal, rustic or vintage style is chosen for the celebration, you can sew a pillow from thin burlap and decorate it with colored ribbons or lace. This is a very popular design today. The wedding date and the names of the newlyweds are often embroidered on such pillows, or even a calendar drawing is applied.

Wedding pillows for engagement rings can be given a variety of shapes: a heart, a flower, a bird’s nest, a shell, a basket with a handle, a flowerbed, etc. This product can be sewn in the form of a round Turkish “dumka” with drapery and a button in the center. In general, brides and grooms have a lot of imagination.

Here's another idea: place the ring cushion in a book with a “hiding place” cut out especially for it. A substantial volume is placed in front of the bride and groom. They open the cover - and there are rings. The book, of course, should be about love. How else?

By the way, the pad is not always accompanied by ties. Sometimes a notch is made in the center of the product to prevent the rings from rolling off. In this case, ties are optional. Another option is ribbon loops through which the ring is threaded. And another solution - large beads as holders for rings.

Lately, when the handmade fashion is gaining momentum, many brides are interested in the question. If you approach the matter with love and care, the result will be no worse than that of a professional or an experienced craftswoman. We present to your attention one of the options for making your own cushion for rings.

DIY ring cushion: step-by-step master class with photos

In this master class we will sew a very simple wedding pillow for wedding rings. Making this accessory does not require much effort or expense. It can even be sewn by hand, rather than on a sewing machine.

We will need the following materials for sewing a wedding accessory:

  • white satin fabric;
  • white lace;
  • white double-sided satin ribbon measuring 1x50 cm;
  • white double-sided satin ribbon measuring 0.5x30 cm;
  • pink satin ribbon measuring 0.5x30 cm;
  • white threads;
  • padding polyester;
  • needle;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • cardboard;
  • ruler;
  • lighter or candle;
  • pins with eyes.

We cut out a template measuring 10x10 cm from cardboard. Our pillow will ultimately be this size. Fold the fabric in half so that the front side is inside and draw the outline of the template with a pencil. We cut out the blank for the pad, making a 1 cm indent from the contour on all sides.

Remove the top layer of fabric. What remains is the bottom layer, which looks at us with its front side. It is necessary to prepare lace measuring 5x12 cm. You can cut blanks from very wide lace or guipure. The main thing is that one side is openwork. We place the lace on both sides close to the edges and fasten it to the fabric with pins. We deliberately leave some space in the middle to tie the pillow with ribbon.

We put back a layer of fabric on top and fasten all the edges along the seam allowances with pins. You can use a running stitch instead of pins.

We begin to sew two layers of fabric along the contour. If you sew by hand, use a stitch seam. In the process, gradually remove the pins so that they do not interfere.

Leave a distance of 5 cm between the beginning of the seam and its end, and tie a knot at the end.
We cut the corners obliquely, making indentations from the edge of 2-3 mm.

Turn the pillow blank inside out. We do this carefully so that the seam does not come apart.

Now you need to fill the pillow with padding polyester or some other filler. If it is padding polyester, then it needs to be torn into small pieces. Using a sharp object with a blunt end, we stuff the pad to evenly distribute the filler in the corners and not tear the seam.

After we have finished stuffing the pillow, sew the hole. All stitches should be the same size and very short so that the edge looks neat and is barely noticeable.

The pillow is ready. Now let’s decorate it with additional decor from satin bows. It is better to choose double-sided ribbons, as with them the product will look more elegant. Cut a white ribbon measuring 1x50 cm and singe the ends. We place it strictly along the center line, free from lace. The ends of the tape should be the same length on each side.

We tie the pad with ribbon and tie it with a simple knot. Now we cut a ribbon measuring 0.5x30 cm and tie the already tied knot of the previous ribbon twice. The ends should also be aligned along the same length and singed. Using this tape the rings will be attached.

Now we tie the wide ribbon into a beautiful bow.

Let's add some zest. Cut a pink ribbon 30 cm long and thread it through the top knot of the bow. The ends need to be singed and aligned to the same length. Tie the ribbon onto the bow again.

We get this DIY wedding pillow for rings.
